“Outrageous, heartwarming, wonderfully sensual…I loved it!”—Jayne Anne Krentz“For sheer fun, nobody beats Nobody’s Baby But Mine.” —Detroit Free PressThe Minneapolis Star-Tribune writes, “Next to Tracy and Hepburn, no one does romantic comedy better than Susan Elizabeth Phillips.” For proof, you need to look no further than Nobody’s Baby But Mine. This classic comic love story from perennial New … Mine. This classic comic love story from perennial New York Times bestseller Phillips unites a beautiful, brainy scientist desperate to be a mom with a brawny, smoking hot jock who, though handsome enough to father her child, is nowhere near as stupid as she wants her baby’s daddy to be. Emily Giffin, Jane Green, and Rachel Gibson fans take note: when it comes to delivering delightfully funny, supremely sexy contemporary women’s fiction, nobody but nobody is better than Susan Elizabeth Phillips.

Susan Elizabeth Phillips is one of my most favorite authors! She writes so well that the story just flows through my head – fun and romantic!
heartfelt funny book. I love the who series.
Enjoyable read!
I enjoy all of her books
Good read after a man hating.
This was different with lots of ups and downs
Susan E Phillips always writes such entertaining stories with marvelous characters. It’s always a fun read.
Two love deserving people meet under unusual circumstances. The lonely heroine gets a cantankerous and insightful grand mother-in-law who helps her learn how to fight for her heart’s desire in the process. The hero finally learns what is truly important in life and what he will do after his career in football is over.
This book has helped me as I too am making major changes in my own life. The book shows how both of the protagonists grow to be better people as a result of facing changes in their lives.
I love all of Susan Elizabeth Phillip’s books, but this is one of my favorites. The characters develop so well. I laughed, I cried, I wanted it to continue forever.
It made me laugh!
Love this author! This book is funny and romantic and the heroine is witty. And takes no guff.
I love anything SEP writes
Fun, fast read.
Book #3 in the Chicago Stars series by Susan Elizabeth Phillips is a book you’ve got to be determined to power through the first awful chapters. And I do mean awful. Throughout the first four chapters, I couldn’t understand how in the world this book had gotten such high ratings. It was gawdawful torment trying to get through the first few chapters, but trust me, as soon as you get through the introductions of everyone and the stupid way Jane and Cal meet you’ll be hard-pressed to put the book down. It’s like a curtain is lifted and you’re suddenly reading an entirely different book from the one you started. I actually think this is my favorite from the series so far.
I LOVE this book! It’s funny and sexy all at the same time.
After an hour or so my husband asked why I was smiling. My answer: this book is funny and romantic and makes a really enjoyable read. And I kept smiling to the very end. An excellent break from my usual dark Nordic Noir books. Recommended.
Love this author and anything she writes
My Rating:
Type: Standalone
Genre: contemporary Romance Fiction
Narration: Dual POV
Primary Characters: Jane & Cal Bonner
I have been a super great fan of this author after reading her “Kiss an Angel” Book. I had read 1st book of Chicago starts and didn’t pick any other books in the series post that. When I saw this book in my kindle recommendation and after reading the blurb, I couldn’t resist myself.
The initial part of the story was outrageous. it wasn’t that believable, and what the heroine did – tricked a man into impregnating her – well, that’s something I could normally never believe or imagine but apart from that, it was wonderful. The story was light enough. I totally enjoyed the banter between main characters. As author has said in the initial acknowledgement of the book, I was smiling laughing and crying during this wonderful ride.
Jane is smart and physicist and she is working as a scientist in Lab. She is genius with super IQ. Now at 34 she is longing for a kid. She doesn’t want to go sperm bank because she thinks, most of the donors in there are medical students and she doesn’t want her kid to be freakish and super intelligent. She wants her kid to be normal and doesn’t want her kid to suffer like her, so she thinks, she wants the father of the child to be more muscles than exercising his brain.
Cal is 36 a legendary quarterback of Chicago stars. He acts more pigheaded initially which will deceive Jane. Totally loved Cal. He is charming, handsome, amusing along with being stubborn. Everything backfires on Janie she finds herself in a bit of a mess when Cal finds out her decisiveness. Cal is beyond livid, which is expected out of him. He brings Jane back to his hometown to wait things out.
Post this story takes different turns. We meet Cal’s Gran Annie, his parents Lynn and Jim along with his brother Ethan. It was wonderful to see their journey. Jane and Cal fall into a comfortable relationship and both are a bit surprised with how far they have come. Lynn and Jim’s side story just warmed my heart. Ethan and Kavin were adorable. The banter Janie and Cal are the best part of the book. I totally loved the relationship development and narration style.
Overall, it’s a delightful, entertaining, and hilarious romance read. Go ahead and pick it up. Even though initial part seems outrageous you will love it.

Enemies to lovers. The writing is incredible and the banter between the characters is the best. The premise is problematic- Jane wants a baby and tricks our football player into having sex with her. He finds out and insists that they marry so his baby will not be a “stray” and they will divorce as soon as the baby is born.
They have to get past the mistrust before they can find their happy ending. There is loud and eccentric grandmother, hot preacher brother and invisible church secretary with a decades long crush.
This book also has the FUNNIEST line- when Jane takes all the marshmello pieces from his lucky charms- he calls her a cereal killer.
What a wonderful book! This story swept me away on a captivating journey I didn’t want to end. I won’t get into the plot here because the blurb gives a pretty good indication of what this book is about. However, I will say that I was curious to know how Susan Elizabeth Phillips was going to get me to like the heroine because honestly, tricking a guy into getting you pregnant and then hiding the pregnancy from him is, in my opinion, one of the lowest things a woman can do. But the strong character development and the fact that the hero was not going to let the heroine get away with it, led to an acceptable conclusion on that score.
The one thing I felt should have been developed a bit more from the beginning, was the heroine’s motivation for wanting her child to have a father with a low IQ. It was explained later, but that part just never made much sense to me. Still, a fantastic read that was utterly impossible to put down. Loved it!
