When twenty-something Lia’s grandmother dies, her life is knocked upside-down. In order to satisfy the terms of her inheritance, Lia is forced to move to the family’s apartment complex in the scenic mountain town of Applebarrow, leaving behind her dead-end job and long-term boyfriend, Jason. While she’s happy to fulfill her Granana’s unusual dying wish to play social director to the eclectic … group of tenants, she’s surprised to discover they are not what she was expecting.
Her days as an RA in her college dorm were inadequate preparation for personalities such as a jealous librarian who names her Thanksgiving turkeys, a charmingly naive mechanic who thinks New Wave is beach music, and a volatile menopausal woman who claims to be a delicate flower.
To add to the mayhem, she meets Logan, an attractive young bartender with a penchant for rescuing her from absurd antics, such as losing her phone to a raccoon and thinking Long Island Iced Teas contain little alcohol. As Jason’s behavior becomes increasingly suspicious and erratic, Lia can’t help being drawn to Logan’s thoughtfulness, wit, and intense blue eyes.
As she adapts to her new community, secrets and lies emerge, and Lia wonders what the deceased, AND living, people in her life are hiding. Working to uncover the evidence, Lia hopes a wacky, unexpected visitor from beyond will provide the answers she craves – before she loses her grip on reality, and the love of her life.

When her Gran dies, Lia discovers her will has some odd stipulations. One of those requires her to work as an apartment administrator for the complex her grandparents owned.
While this will cause her a separation from her current live in beau, her current job as a personal shopper is something she can easily leave behind.
Lia discovers that the life she left behind was one with little in it for her . Her long time beau Jason says he wants to stay and build a life with her .
Finding out bits of her family past and opportunities for her skills and inheritance to be put to work show her a very different possible future- one that might not include her inattentive and manipulative beau.
Add in a very quirky collection of characters at the apartment complex and a randomly appearing ghostly grandmother, a fun and wacky read I really enjoyed.

This book is the perfect combination of fun, paranormal and romance. It’s a lighthearted read, complete with a matchmaking ghost, crazy neighbors and a lot of fun.
Carol Maloney Scott writes well, has witty dialog, fun situations and lot of laugh-out-loud moments.
So if you’re in the mood for some fun, light paranormal hijinx, pick up this book.
That was an absolutely delightful adventure! I had fun just following Lia in her own discoveries. I never saw any of it coming! The characters were delightful and abhorrent depending on who they were. Well developed! The entire story sucked you in and had you eager to discover what was going to happen next! I loved it!
Zany, with a naive heroine and a tad de trop silliness

I ultimately found Lia’s story enjoyable but it could have been better. This book improved as it built momentum and, as the months progressed, lives changed and new relationships formed. Heroine Lia gets involved in the lives of her new tenants and does some detective work to get a better understanding of why her Granana specifically requested her stay in rural Applebarrow, Virginia as a stipulation to her large inheritance. All of that is good, interesting, often amusing.
Her love life, on the other hand, is a repetitive string of suspicion and then ignoring the signs that something’s rotten in Jason, the boyfriend she left behind in the city. Their long distance relationship is disappointingly one-note. And her ghostly Granana’s visits and Lia’s odd pajama fetish are just too silly. If Granana’s visits actually advanced the plot it would have been better IMO, but she keeps getting sidetracked and disappears before Lia gets her questions answered. Having only Lia’s POV through the whole book kept the wondering and suspense alive, but it also made the other characters a bit stereotyped.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
I read it at a sitting! Lia is hilarious. I’ve fallen in love with all the side characters and crazies living in and around the Pentagon apartment complex…can’t wait to see more of them in future Spooky Matchmakers stories. I did want to kick her boyfriend in the balls. All good things come to them that wait.
Wow! Another great cast of characters created by Carol Maloney Scott. No One Tells Lia Anything follows Lia DeLuca through an adventure she never expected. Lia is very comfy in her life in Richmond with her boyfriend, Jason and their plan for moving overseas to start the rest of their lives together. She is happy…so she thought. The book opens with the reading of Lia’s grandmother’s will. Granana was quite wealthy and leaves Lia her inheritance with some life changing conditions. She must move into a family owned apartment complex for a year, 2 hours away from her life, and bring harmony to the tenants she doesn’t even know. While she wants to honor her grandmother, she also wants to move onto the next stage of her life with Jason. She does everything she can to bring happiness to everyone else. In the meantime, she realizes she isn’t truly happy. She tries to make sure she is loyal to everyone by sticking with the plan but her “life” constantly throws her curveballs. You are rooting for her life to go one way, but each chapter adds to the craziness. This truly is a story about Lia finding herself, with a little help from her friends and family.
The only thing I felt could be improved, the last few chapters seemed very rushed. We ended one chapter not knowing what happened, jumped to the next a month later and got a brief recap of the events in that month timespan. It left me wanting more. However, the ending leaves so many possibilities for Lia as well as the other characters. I am excited to see how this develops.
As always, Carol infuses laugh out loud humor into her storyline and characters. I laughed a lot, sometimes to tears and at times could not put the book down. Every person you meet in the story has their own unique quirks you want to learn more about. There are so many more stories that can come of this series. I cannot wait to see what’s next!
Funny and enjoyable read.
Loved all characters
So much fun!
The inner dialogue and quirky stream of consciousness in Lia was both laugh out loud funny and endearing.
Nobody Tells Lia Anything was a great novel filled with a full range of characters all centered around the heroine. A classic tale of self discovery with a dash of romance, intrigue, and even a sprinkle of paranormal to spice things up a bit.
The story never felt like it lagged and it kept me wondering what was going to happen next.
As someone who loves series, I am hopeful there will be more to come. I would recommend this to just about anyone. It’s just too much fun NOT to read! Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
I read a complimentary (FREE) Advanced Reader Copy of this book & am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review.
Lia’s grandmother dies. In her will she wants Lia to move into a family owned apartment complex to be the social director. She is to live there for at least one year. Lia uncovers family secrets that were kept hidden for years. Lia has a boyfriend, Jason, who does not have her best interests as a priority. Lia meets Logan and immediately feels some spark with him. This novel is a page turner. You really want to keep reading to find out details of the happenings with Lia.
I enjoyed this book. It has a little magic going on with this unique story. I was impressed with the plot and the characters. The author has a way of keeping you engaged throughout the entire story. I was glad to have read this book. It will leave you with a wonderful feeling!
Omg..I laughed and giggled …what a treat!
And although this isn’t my go to ” genre ” , i REALLY enjoyed this book
I said” I know a person like that! ” while reading this book.
You will love the way this author created her characters cause we’ve all known or been acquainted with some if not all of them .
I recommend this book to anyone looking for something different .It truly is a ” you can’t miss” read.
Nicely Done
I recieved a copy of this book and am freely giving my review .
A wonderful refreshing page turner that keep me guessing and laughing to the end. A great page turner that sucks you in and makes you loose track of time. It’s not only funny at times, it will pull your heart strings leaving a smile on your face.
I thoroughly enjoyed this romp into romance and the paranormal. Lia was so relatable and her Gran was hilarious! The folks of Pentagon Place were lovable, save one, and I am hoping we will see more stories set in the town of Applebarrow. This author is a new one for me and I found her storytelling style enchanting. I look forward to reading more of her work and happily recommend this book to anyone. It was sweet, funny, and appropriate for all. Kudos!
I am no stranger to books from Carol Maloney Scott. Even though this was not part of her other series, it was an enjoyable read.
The story starts off with Lia learning about her grandmother’s will and what she has to do to get her inheritance. A few hoops have to be jumped through (that only involve uprooting her life to take over a complex that her Granana owned) but she feels that she can do it. Along the way she realizes that she has less work than she imagined and starts to get confused as to why she is there. As well as being confused about her boyfriend she left back home, her Granana life, and even her residents she is suppose to be ‘looking after’. As she slowly starts to piece these things together she realizes some of her old life may not be in the cards for her anymore. In the end she realizes what she needs.
A few nitpicky things I have about the book are conversations that seemed skipped between characters and the ending that, though expected, was too quick.
R4R
Nobody Tells Lia Anything is an hilarious, enjoyable romance. Lia, her Granana and all the quirky residents of Applebarrow made for a most enjoyable read (although they kept me up way too late because I could not put the book down! I certainly would not want to pay Lia’s phone bill! With Granana’s ghost, a long distance boyfriend, a local bartender and many secrets, this is so much fun to read. Lia does manage to get into some interesting predicaments. I highly recommend you read this book!
I really liked it, but the ending let the book down just a bit
The book starts out with a dramatic Will reading. A lighthearted tone makes sure it isn’t sad or heavy. Lia is to bring the residents of her late grandmother’s apartment complex together, socially.
But not everything is as it seems.
Nobody tells Lia anything.
Not Jason, her boyfriend.
Not Amy, his work wife.
Not Logan, one of the residents.
And certainly not Granana, her late grandmother.
But then again, Lia doesn’t tell her boyfriend everything either. She’s only ever complaining about him to us (the readers), and she’s also only ever defending him to everyone including herself. She refuses to really SEE that he isn’t good for her.
I really liked the whole book, it was entertaining and enjoyable – and then the end came and it was just too quick. Something happened that was just too sudden. With not enough explanation at the time. Lia doesn’t even know everything yet! Too abrupt. There’s this whole slow, long process and then all of a sudden BAM. The whole book had been full of detail, and that’s what the ending lacked. There was a HEA, but I was left feeling ever so slightly disappointed by the speed and suddenness. I did read an early copy, so it might have changed, I don’t know. But I can only judge what I have read, so it cost the book a star.
Bedroom door stays closed but there are some slightly naughty references and there is some swearing.
I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and all opinions expressed herein are my own.
The book is advertised as “Laugh Out Loud Paranormal” – I did not find this to be true. I smiled a few times but no laugh out loud moments for me. At times, I found this story to be very tedious. Lia has a boyfriend Jason- and Lia is told on numerous occasions that he is not right for her – and Jason behaves on numerous occasions like he is not right for her. Lia is told on numerous occasions that her neighbor and bar owner Logan is perfect for her – and Logan is shown on numerous occasions that he is perfect for her. Yet, Lia complains about Jason and daydreams about Logan – over and over again. I get Lia’s reluctance on not wanting to quickly give up on a long-term relationship – but, I’m sorry I just got tired of her wishy-washy behavior and every time it happened – Jason bad, Logan good – I audibly sighed. I think this would have been better had it been shorter.
The narrator, Rosie O’Toole, did a very nice job. She provided various voices for the different characters.
It took me a while to get through this book. I did not like Lia at all. She seemed to have no backbone and was too content to let others run things for her. I loved Granana. The way she would pop up and would be dressed whacky was great! I loved the characters in the complex. Honestly, they are the reason I kept reading the book.
Lia is on a hunt to find out the truth that lies within her family! A super cute romcom that is sure to please!
