“No Way Down is both a gripping read and a clear-eyed investigation of the hubris, politics, and bad luck that brought on one of the worst disasters in modern mountaineering history.” — Michael Kodas, author of High Crimes: The Fate of Everest in an Age of Greed “Graham Bowley’s No Way Down does a great job of putting you on the mountain. It is a refreshingly unadorned account of the true … unadorned account of the true brutality of climbing K2, where heroes emerge and egos are stripped down, and the only thing achieving immortality is the cold ruthless mountain.” — Norman Ollestad, author of Crazy for the Storm
In the tradition of Into Thin Air and Touching the Void, No Way Down by New York Times reporter Graham Bowley is the harrowing account of the worst mountain climbing disaster on K2, second to Everest in height… but second to no peak in terms of danger. From tragic deaths to unbelievable stories of heroism and survival, No Way Down is an amazing feat of storytelling and adventure writing, and, in the words of explorer and author Sir Ranulph Fiennes, “the closest you can come to being on the summit of K2 on that fateful day.”

I love books about survival—this was a great vacation read while hiking.
Climbing K2, the second highest mountain in the world, is considered by many to more challenging than climbing Mount Everest. This can become even more daunting when the season is cut short due to weather, which in turn makes the mountain more crowded when several teams of climbers, porters and Sherpas make the journey at the same time. Excellent read for anyone that climbs or has an interest in climbing
Good read. Even if you do know in advance how it ends, to read about the details of the climbers trips was captivating.
This book was a fascinating account of a K2 climbing accident. It kept me interested all the way through.
Good book which lays out the dangers and thrills of mountain climbing. I learned a lot about the dangers and thrills of the sport.
I love climbing books and documentaries so this definitely met my expectations for a good read.
Easily able to picture a physical and psychological world that I will never experience myself. Why??? I know the answer is “because it is there” but I still ha e to as Why???
Very detailed account of the deadliest K2 attempt.
Wow
Recap of the 2008 K2 disaster. Well researched and personal as well as terrifying and tragic.
Exciting and pleasurable!
Great first hand account of this tragedy!
Well-rendered account of a tragic adventure. I like to read about mountain climbing but can’t imagine doing it. Too frightening. I liked that the author didn’t give away who was injured or died before it happened. It would have been much worse if the doctor had not been there.
I am an avid fan of Wayne Stinnett and his character Jesse McDermitt. If you like adventure packed books all in this series is worth reading.
I couldn’t believe the tragic experience of all of the climbers on K2…those lost and those who survived. Amazing story…I’d recommend it.
