San Francisco crime reporter Tom Reed is burned out. On the day he decides to finally quit the news business, a sensational story breaks. A heart-stopping robbery-homicide at a jewelry store. The suspects have shot and killed a police officer before fleeing with a female hostage. Reed rushes to the scene, his passion resurrected for one last big story.
Arriving at the chaos, Reed is stunned to … stunned to learn from a staff member, still clutching a receipt, that the hostage is his wife, Ann Reed.
Horrified, Reed confronts San Francisco Homicide Inspector Walt Sydowski and other detectives on the case. All know the odds.
Reed is paralyzed with anguish, but his son, Zach, refuses to give up hope of finding his mother, despite the grisly trail left by the killers. Now the clock is ticking down as Reed battles his demons and Sydowski in a life and death search for Ann.

Rick Mofina always pleases and is such a talented writer. I look for his works whenever I’m searching for a new book.
Rick Mofina does it again. The fourth in the series is as outstanding as the previous books. Keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Highly recommend! Looking forward to the next book.
Although I have loved them all, this is my favorite, thus far, in the Tom Reed/ Walt Sydowski series. I just wish I could give it more than 5 stars.
Tom Reed has finally decided to retire from crime reporting and focus on writing novels, in order to please his wife. Just as he is about to tell his new boss about his plans, a jewelry heist in San Francisco occurs. Tom is sent to cover the story, which he plans to be his last for the paper. His plans change when he arrives to find that the robbery and its aftermath have struck close to home. As Tom tries to use his wits and memory to aid police, he is faced with the terrifying knowledge that his life may never be the same.
I liked this story OK and I found it engrossing enough to keep me up well past bedtime to finish it. I did not like Sydowski in “Blood of Others” at all but I liked him much more in this book. This story paints a much more favourable picture of the FBI than is presented by many crime authors such as Michael Connolly and actually shows most of the FBI agents to be sympathetic and cooperative human beings.
Rick Mofina seems to really like the cross country travelogue journeys and the spectacular blazing endings, ala Jack Reacher, as they turn up in quite a few of his books.
The ending was probably about all it could have been even if not terribly satisfying.
It was interesting to see the shoe on the other foot for Tom Reed and it was great that Molly Wilson got to play the big hero reporter.
One more to go in this series and I think I can see a hint of why Rick kinda concluded the series.
Of the many books I have read by Rick Mofina, this one has been the best so far! I was on the edge of my seat from one chapter to the next. I didn’t want to stop reading.
Another great thriller from Rick Mofina. No Way Back is the kind of suspense thriller that draws you in immediately and doesn’t let go. The action is non-stop, and you can feel the characters’ emotions—everything from despair to joy and elation. You will meet a lot of different players in No Way Back, and each is given a fair amount of backstory. The fast-paced plot kept me on my toes trying to figure out who the thieves/murderers/hostage-takers were.
Heart-pounding. Intense. Not one lost moment. THIS is what is a 5 star thriller. But not a lot of gruesome unnecessary violence or gore, not excessive cursing. Just right. Mr. Molina made me believe in his characters and root for the good guys. And it was not over until the very end. What a great storyteller!!!
Once again Rick Mofina has not failed to entertain. Such a great writer
that I look forward to everything I can find from him! Great characters, great story line and towards the end a real heart beater suspense!!
Once again Mr. Mofina writes a great story. Journalist, Tom Reed, is ready to ‘retire’ for his wife and child’s sake, but on the day he is to give notice, one of the biggest stories breaks loose. Little did he know he and his family would be right in the middle of it. Such suspense in every page. I’ve enjoyed the Tom Reed series as well as the ones without him. I have one more on my shelf to read called: They Disappeared. I’m sure it’ll be a super read too. Thanks Mr. Mofina.
Gripping from the beginning. Had trouble putting it down. If you like books with a realistic situation, suspense, and a surprise ending, then this is the book for you!
Love this book
Well-written
This was a real nail biter
I have thoroughly enjoyed every Mofina tale I have read and when I see the Mofina name I know that there’s a good one!
Definitely a page turner.
Really enjoy reading Rick Mofina’s books
The story line was well developed and had characters to root for.
Kept your interest
Holy cow! This book starts out going 90 miles per hour and the action kicks into super high gear. A page turner and you’ll not want to put it down until you finish it!
Great story. didn’t like the part where the cop was killed, otherwise a great book.
