I found this story of attempting a new start in life for this girl was quite interesting and fraught with danger from the get go. l admire her gumption and am really looking forward to the next book. The narrator has an easy sing song voice that was a pleasure to listen to.
No Stakes Allowed by Laura Greenwood is a paranormal academy romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Jodi Gaylord.
I absolutely love Laura’s books! They always leave me with a smile. I really enjoyed the fact that Laura tied in some of the characters from the Ashryn Barker Trilogy. I loved the slow burn romance between Lily and Bryce. I cannot wait for the second book in the series Stakes Are Raised to be released on audible.
Jodi did an amazing job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of her work in the future.
I would highly recommend this book if you like paranormal romances or slow burn romance.
I absolutely loved this book, it’s an academy romance with a reappearance of a few characters from the Ashryn Barker trilogy. Lily’s a retired vampire hunter and when she has a chance to attend Grimalkin Academy she’ll be alongside the vampires she hunted. I was enthralled from the start, and couldn’t stop once I started, just waiting to see what would happen next, I’m looking forward to the next book, I need to know what happens next, Jodi Gaylord’s narration was fantastic.
Great book, plenty of action, adventure and romance … something for everyone.
I received this as an Advance Reader Copy with the hopes I would like it and review it.
While you would get more enjoyment from reading this after the first series it is still a great story that drags you under its spell and makes you try and guess what is next
The characters are dynamic and realistic but you do feel, if you haven’t read the first series a little lost because of relationships and character building in the original series
I want to see where this goes and so should you

NO STAKES ALLOWED is the first book in the Grimalkin Academy: Stakes series. This is a spin-off of the Ashryn Barker Trilogy, but will stand without having read those books. This was the first book that I have read from the author and I was not lost at all. On the other hand, this series will need to be read in the order of release.
I loved Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy and this book has a similar feeling. Though Rose was accepted as a Dhampir and Dimitri was one of her Dhampir instructors, their relationship was just as unaccepted as Lily – a human – and Bryce – her bodyguard and a vampire.
NO STAKES ALLOWED has plenty of action, drama, and sweet romance with a bit of mean girl thrown in. It was a fun read and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
There are a lot of wonderful questions left unanswered at the end of the book, but no cliff-hanger. This is the first book that I have read from Laura Greenwood, but I’m going to be grabbing up as many as I can tout suite!
Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC via Booksprout, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

Lily hated her life as a vampire hunter and is thrilled that the hunters have been dismantled. Now she is under the protection of the vampires and wants nothing more than to go to Grimalkin Academy. Lily is allowed to go with one condition – a vampire bodyguard/guard who happens to hate her. Bryce and Lily must live together and coexist without bloodshed. They make a sweet couple learn to navigate Grimalkin together. I received an advance copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.
**** I’m volunteering to review this arc ****
This book is fast paced. Lily is a ex vampire hunter. She became a prisoner of the vampires that she hunted and the ones who destroyed the vampire hunters guild. She decides to go to Grimalkin Academy for vampires and witches. She goes with Bryce her vampire bodyguard. Who doesn’t like her or does he like her? Something is going on at the academy can she figure out and stay alive?
I look forward to reading more of Lily and Bryce’s story

Our heroine is a hunter among the hunted, or at least that is how it was. Now she is supposed to get along with her former prey. This could be complicated.
This is book one of a new series set at the author’s paranormal academy. No prior reading necessary to enjoy this book.
This is a paranormal academy romance story. Like all of the other stories I have read by this author, it is well written and easy to read. The academy setting is familiar to some of us, but new readers need to fear. The setting is described in nice detail so you will understand all the essentials pretty quickly. The characters are well developed and diverse, with many different types of paranormals included (as well as the usual academy stereotypes). The story moves along pretty quickly and definitely leaves you wanting more. I can’t wait for the next book.
Highly recommended.

Ex vampire hunter Lily is granted permission to attend Grimalkin Academy on the condition that she takes a vampire bodyguard, Bryce, with her. Her first problem is that it is vital no-one at Grimalkin find out that she is an ex-hunter and her second is that Bryce loathes her because of who she used to be. Once he learns that she didn’t choose that life for herself and was forced to do the things she did will he be able to see her as anything other than a hunter? For his part Bryce has a bit of a dark past himself. Unfortunately what she has been dreading happens and the consequences are life and death for Lily. Can Bryce save her and if so what will the consequences be for the two of them? I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the story kept glued to the pages from start to finish.

No Stakes Allowed by Laura Greenwood is a wonderful story that I have read. This is a wonderful start to a brand new series that I have loved reading very much and can not wait to read the next book in this wonderful series. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about vampires, fanatsy and paranormal romance.

No Stakes Allowed is the first book of the Grimalkin Academy: Stakes series and is Lily a vampire hunter and Bruce her guard at the academy’s story. The characters are interesting, the story is filled with vampire drama, danger, suspense, romance, unexpected twists and a cliffhanger ending that left me ready for book two.
I love the take on this one where a human ex-hunter now has to live with the very creatures she was hunting in the past. It’s a sort of hate/love relationship. I enjoyed it and can’t wait to see what else is in store with the rest of the stories.

Return to Grimalkin Academy, this time with Lily’s story. This is the first books in Lily’s story as she start at Grimalkin Academy due to her new freedom from the Hunter’s Guild. Of course there are a few issues that she must overcome. The story was amusing and a quick read. I was entertained as she goes about learning at the Vampire side of the Academy. The ending was fun and a great set up of what might be coming next while Lily tries to get an education.
With the Guild destroyed, Lily doesn’t want to be a vampire hunter, even though she had been forced into it since childhood, so she now is able to make a choice of what she would like to do. She chooses to attend school, with Grimalkin Academy being the only option. She is the only human among the vampires there, which is not a good situation since many will want revenge. She has to have a bodyguard, but Bryce definitely doesn’t like her. Yet as they get to know each other better, they have more in common than they would have imagined. But can he protect her from her enemies when someone wants her dead? And when she begins to have visions about her fate through betrayal by someone who may have befriended her, what are her next steps?
This is a good book that draws the reader in with great characters and a fast-paced story line. Grab your copy and see whether Lily can escape her past and find a more enticing future.
“No Stakes Allowed” picks up after “The Ashryn Barker Trilogy” ends with Lily held in a vampire den and contemplating her fate. Laura Greenwood brings readers up to speed on what has happened to Lily, but I still felt like I was missing something. Like a whole play had gone on that I missed. Yeah, I did miss it. It was called “The Ashryn Barker Trilogy” that I have in my Kindle, but have not read yet.
There is still plenty of action, drama, and romance in Stakes to keep anyone who has not read anything else entertained. I thoroughly enjoyed the story. There are bad guys, then bigger bad guys. Paranormal magic and hidden mysteries are buried within the story-line. Then of course, we have romance. Boy meets girl and does not eat her. I consider this a good thing.
I cannot wait to read the next one and I will have read the previous trilogy in the meantime. You don’t have to, but why not, hello it is Laura Greenwood it has to be good. Vampires, fighting, and romance…yup, I am there.
I received an ARC of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.
