What a cute mystery book. I hadn’t really heard of the genre cozy mystery until I read this book and now I’m ready to go read them all! This is definitely an author that I’m interested in reading more from as well. It read quickly and the characters drew me in. I figured it all out earlier than the end but had to keep reading to see how it all ended up.
CJ was a fun addition with her mystery and detection skills. I loved the idea of a tiny community of tiny houses. We live in a small house(not tiny though) with lots of people and animals but we have acres of land to explore so it doesn’t feel so cramped. It sounds like somewhere people would go to escape!
Or maybe where people would go when they’re hiding their criminal activities!?

No Small Caper by Cynthia Hickey
Cute and enjoyable read. A little mystery, blossoming romance and quirky, fun characters all add to the story and enjoyment. The first book in this series is good enough to make you anxious for more. This book was supplied by Celebrate Lit and the author for my review. The opinions are my own.
Prepare to jump right into the action in this crazy cozy mystery. It offers a fun read, filled with mystery and mayhem. The main character, CJ Turley, assumes her new position as manager of a tiny house community situated next to a campground. But the simple lifestyle she anticipates doesn’t materialize. Instead, she faces crimes and even murder. With the help of the park ranger she investigates and tracks down suspects trying to find the guilty culprit. The quirky characters and entertaining setting along with a twisting plot make for an entertaining time. The author knows how to create a literary romp filled with challenging situations and unexpected surprises, plus a bit of danger. There are quite a few characters so it is sometimes had to keep everyone straight. This makes for a good summer read, and a pretty quick one too. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.
This is a new to me author and I have enjoyed getting to know her writing style. I loved how she used tiny houses as the main scene of the story. I have been intrigued by the houses for some time. They seem perfect for people who want to downsize or just have a place with less clutter.
CJ is a good character who becomes the overseer of Heavenly Acres. She seems to take well to the new job and her home. The first part of the story is spent on introducing the characters. There were quite a few so I did have a hard time keeping up with them. As the story starts to develop into a mystery, I began to really enjoy how nice the story flowed. A rash of burglaries starts happening in the community and CJ is right there to investigate. After all, she feels responsible for what happens to the people in her little community.
Eric is a good addition to the story and his skills as park ranger will come in handy as more crimes start spreading in the area. His attraction to CJ was pretty predictable but I did like the chemistry between them. He has his hands full when CJ gets a little close to catching the thief. CJ is very stubborn and I think it was a good quality as she tries to unravel what is going on. In most cozy mysteries there is usually a murder and the one in this story is no exception.
My favorite character is Mags. Oh my is she a great character. With her no nonsense attitude and hunger for action, she makes a great side kick for CJ. Mags bring the story a few chuckles and I would love to be her neighbor. The story is a clean read and has just enough suspense to keep me trying to guess who would turn out to be the criminal. I am excited that the author has more in this series, because I plan to read everyone of them.

“It’s your job now to keep these crazies in line, Miss Turley.” Opening with this engaging first line from No Small Caper, #1 A Tiny House Mystery, Cynthia Hickey has my attention. I loved meeting Heavenly Acres’ new overseer, CJ. Young, energetic, and enthusiastic, she is unafraid of anything or anyone.
As CJ meets the people in the tiny home park, she attracts followers, besides her dog, Caper. There’s Mags, a crusty older lady that won’t be set on the shelf, a gorgeous hunk of a ranger, Eric, and Amanda, a nurse and possible alternate love interest for Eric. What a great concoction these four make. I am very excited to see that there are more books already published in the series. No waiting for sequels.
I was a little confused by the number of men in the story that I couldn’t keep straight. Perhaps there could have been fewer minor characters to keep tabs on?
The ending was very satisfying. Huzzah! What I took exception to, was, murder was not the main problem being solved, as in typical cozy. Maybe this was Ms. Hickey’s way of changing the cozy formula up a bit. Definitely a fun, clean read with more sequels available immediately for the asking.

This is an enjoyable cozy mystery with an unusual setting—Heavenly Acres, a tiny house community. The characters each have their unique personalities and by the time I finished the book, I felt as if I’d gotten to known the residents of this community very well. This first book in the series spent quite a bit of time helping the reader get to know the characters in the book, and sets the foundation for the other books to come in the series.
This isn’t a heart-pounding mystery, but it was fun following the progress of the folks in Heavenly Acres as they tried to solve the puzzle of all that was happening in their community. It took awhile for all the clues to come together and that keep me guessing as to who the culprit really was. This is a clean story that’s perfect for when you want something lighter to read.

I have to admit I was not sure how I would like Cynthia Hickey’s No Small Caper at first. But since I saw that is the beginning of a series called A Tiny House Mystery, I could not resist giving it a try. I love reading mysteries and am obsessed with the tiny houses. Within the first few pages, I realize that it was going to be a fun read. I was entertained with this quick read from the start to finish. I am so happy I gave it a try.
I am giving No Small Caper four and a half stars. I would love to read more by Cynthia Hickey in the near future. She has proven to me that she has great talent of writing charming stories. I adored this one and recommend it for readers who want to read a quick and delightful little mystery.
