Excellent! Everyone needs to read books from Charles Todd. If you want interesting and keep you reading until the book is done, this is it. Actually any of the books by Charles Todd will give you this. Inspector Rutledge series is the best. He is smart, intuitive and can get information others cannot. Try it, you will like it. Start from the beginning so you can see the progression of the Inspector.
One of Rutledges best
i enjoyed the beginning and everything in between. he had a friendship with one of the girls. but still had to do his duty as an officer. there were lots of twist and turns. read it and enjoy. mr todd does a great job of writing about the inspector.
All of the characters in Charles Todd books reflect the stress and horror of WWI. I believe I learned more about WW1 from these books than I ever did in a history class. The characters are carefully crafted with emotion without being maudlin. I believe Charles Todd’s mother is or was a partner in writing the books. I have read all of the books and always wait with great anticipation for the next one.
CharlesTodd is the Author
I am now officially hooked on this series. I love the character development and storyline. I am on the last one published and am delaying reading it as it might be awhile before another one comes out!
The beauty and mystery of Cornwall combines with a complex, twisting plot and sympathetic characters. At a time when privilege usually meant immunity from responsibility and the law, Inspector Rutledge wrestles professionally and personally with a case involving four aristocratic young women accused of a murder that seems impossible to solve.
It took me a while to get past the short sentences.
I love this entire series. After reading this one, I went back to the first book in the series and have read all 21 books and am on the wait list for the next one.
The writing combination Charles Todd has done it again. Great writing that keeps you turning the pages and hoping they write more!
a writer whose work is always top-notch and deserves a 5-star rating once again; the story line is a death that is interpreted as accidental and tragic on the one hand vs. intentional murder by one or more persons; keeps you guessing until the end; well-told in an intellectual, procedural approach but warmed with unique characters and emotions
Love this series!
I love this series. Bess Crawford is the best. However, now that the war is over, the narrative drags. The setting is perhaps the best part of the book.
One of my favorite series. I always look forward to the next book
I always enjoy Charles Todd book.
Another great mystery series.
Sometimes in a death mystery it’s possible to ‘figure it out’. This time the solution was not at all obvious.
Like all Inspector Rutledge novels the counter-foil, Hamish, comes and goes. The story, like most Todd stories is complicated…lots of twists.
I’ve read all the Inspector series and am eagerly awaiting the next installment.
Highly recommended!
Excellent mystery set in Britain between the big wars.
Okay read.
