I absolutely adored this book. The second in the By The Sea series set in beautiful Maui. The first book was great and this one is even better.
The characters will get in your heart and make you feel what they feel. They have so many ups and downs. Family is what it’s all about in the end though. Finding safety and staying close to those you love. Being there for each other through everything. From the sunny beautiful descriptions to the people you will love to get close too. This book is so good.
Maggie and Quinn are best friends and this is the continuation of what is happening with them. Maggie is trying to find her place. A safe place away from the things that haunt her. The things that she’s so afraid of. But what will she do when that past comes to Hawaii? Will she be able to get through it? She knows Quinn is always there and has her back. She’s not only afraid for herself and her family but for her son. Quinn has some deep secrets of her own though and is trying to protect someone. Between her and Maggie this book will keep you wondering how things will turn out. Will things work out for them both or will one fall short? Let’s not forget Woodrow, Maggie’s service dog. He’s the best. He will definitely steal your heart. Also Charlie, Maggie’s son. He’s a mess for sure. Always a big entertainment for others, especially Quinn. There is a big family in this story. Both related by blood and by the heart. Sometimes the heart is stronger than blood. But not always.
This book will pull you in and take you places. It won’t let go until the very last word then you will want more. This book has many emotions at play. From a few laughs to some intense fears. From meeting some pretty cool animals to a veterinarian who loves practical jokes. Will Maggie and Quinn make it through this storm? Will everything turn out ok? This is a very well written book that definitely makes you feel like you are right there at every turn. You will have a trip to Hawaii that you won’t be forgetting for a while. The beauty is captured in this wonderful book. All the descriptions make you feel like you are right there. On the beach. Under the waterfalls. In the lobby of Quinn’s Inn. It’s a beautiful story and I can’t wait for the next one.
Thank you #NetGalley, #LakeUnionPublishing, #KayBratt for this ARC. These are my own words and do not truly do this book justice.
A huge 5/5 stars and a high recommendation.. Enjoy your trip to Maui, Hawaii!
This is a wonderfully written page turner. It is full of characters that anyone would love to have as real life friends and plot lines that keep you reading long after bedtime. All of this on the majestic island of Maui, which has a personality of its own. Great summer read.
This is the first book in the By the Sea series and I really enjoyed it. There is family drama, emotional distress, developing relationships, and domestic violence. Lots of things to have you invested in the lives of the characters and keep you turning the pages.
Maggie and her best friend, Quinn, are each dealing with their own emotional issues. But you don’t get so tired reading about these…you are slowly walked through their situations and learn how they’ve reached this point in their lives. And you are cheering them on as they mature and develop into strong women.
I love the information that is shared about the culture and folklore of Hawaii. That was an added bonus that made the book even better.
Thank you to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
No Place Too Far takes up right where True To Me, the first of the A By the Sea series, ends. Both of these stories are great reads and I highly recommend reading them in order. In True To Me, Quinn Maguire heads to Hawaii to find her dad after her mom dies only to find a whole family that she knew nothing about nor how she was separated from them. Now she is there running a small inn in Maui and when her friend Maggie Dalton and her small son need a place to land, she encourages Maggie to go there from the mainland. Maggie has had a stalker and he is in prison. Or is he? She is starting over, working as a veterinary tech and struggling to make ends meet when strange things start happening. Quinn is trying to get her life together and make new relationships with a family she never knew as well as develop a relationship with a new boyfriend. Both of the friends encounter trials to work through in this story filled with anguish and stress and both have to realize that one can be independent and still rely on others for help. Maggie makes some new friends and has an unexpected and unwanted reunion. This was a nail biter at times but also with heart warming results that bring a smile and “sigh” moments. I am looking forward to book three and wondering whose story(ies) will be next.
I received a complimentary ARC from Lake Union Publishing through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine only.
Kay Bratt is a master at creating amazing, lovable characters. In this story we revisit Quinn and Liam and meet Quinn’s best friend Maggie. Maggie has some troubles and ends up moving with her son to the beautiful island of Maui. This must read story continues to enlighten the reader about the characters and their situations that have stirred up their personal lives. Enjoy your visit to Maui…Alooooha!
I really loved this book, it continues on from the first in the series and I was able to slip right back in and see where the characters were. Kay has a way of writing that makes you feel like you know these characters, you’re invested and you can’t wait to see what is next for them. I can’t wait for the next book – it feels so far away!
I was given an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest and fair review.
Kay Bratt’s newest novel has it all: suspense, romance , a tropical setting, as we follow Maggie’s and Quinn’s stories … can’t put this book down! Another must read in the “By the Sea” series
No Place Too Far is a fascinating story about Quinn, Liam and her friend Maggie and their life on the beautiful island. The story telling is wonderful and makes you feel like you’re visiting right along with them. Loved this series and can’t wait for the next one.
I loved this book but I hated the subject matter (which you will understand once you read it). The writing, the characters, the scenery descriptors……….everything about this book are exceptional! I felt like I was in Hawaii experiencing everything the characters were. There is no better book than one that can transport you to a new destination! Kay Bratt, no matter how your day is going you always think of your readers first!! This book is a must read for everyone! Enjoy!
I received an ARC from NetGalley and this is my voluntary, honest review.
I am a long time fan of Kay Bratt’s work. She always has engaging characters and story lines that catch my interest. In this second book set in Hawaii, the characters I grew to love are developed even more. But there is a line of mystery and intrigue in this one that goes beyond any of her other books. She just gets better and better!
In the first book of the series, we learned just a little about Maggie, but in this book Kay Bratt brings Maggie’s story alive. I loved the first book, and was excited to carry on with Quinn’s story but really loved the emotion and passion that I felt as I followed along with Maggie while enjoying the beauty of Hawaii thru Kay’s writing. I love all of her books as there is so much depth to her characters. A great read. I can hardly wait for the third book in this series.
I absolutely loved book one in this series, True to Me, and couldn’t wait to go back to Quinn’s world and the beautiful islands of Hawaii. Well, No Place Too Far, book two is every bit a good as the first one.
The story centers on Quinn’s best friend Maggie who moves to Maui to escape the troubles in her past. But when her past comes looking for her, things get dangerous. Watching Maggie figure out what she wants and stand up to the evil from her past make this a story that will grab your heart. Meanwhile, Quinn also has to face her past and either flee or stay and fight for what’s important.
The author has created an intriguing story in a beautiful setting that will keep you enthralled all while feeling a little bit like you are on vacation. This is an amazing series with characters that I have come to love and I’m super excited for book number three!
This is my review from Goodreads –
I received this book in exchange for my honest review. This is the second book in series A By the Sea Novel. I couldn’t get enough. Kay Bratt always amazes me with her books! There is not one of her books I didn’t like!
No Place too Far
Oh my oh my. Kay how do you do it?
Your books aren’t love stories. They aren’t even stories. They are deep philosophical windows into peoples souls.
Kay Bratt has gone from telling tales of Chinese orphans, to having to deep philosophical insight regarding human emotions and ancient Hawaiian culture.
Her characters open themselves up so we can see and feel their thoughts and emotions. We learn from their adventures. We want to become some of them.
Keep up the good work. Amazing books. Albeit, too short!
I loved this story! Kay Bratt’s writing style is clever, clear, humorous, insightful, and warm. No Place Too Far is the 2nd in a series, and because I absolutely fell in love with the characters in True to Me, I was delighted to have them back in my life. I especially liked that Maggie came from a place of traumatic struggle in her life as a single mother and was able to rise above it with the help of her therapy dog, her friends, and yes, a little romance. Taking place on the beautiful island of Maui, the author truly made me feel as if I was there. The only reason this book was rated as a 4 star rather than the 5 star was not from my lack of enjoyment or satisfaction with it, but from the fact that I felt that it might be a little bit of a stretch for readers to enjoy this as much as a stand alone piece of work. I am extremely glad that I had read the previous book, but I kept thinking, as the “back story” was detailed throughout No Place Too Far, that it felt a bit complicated presented in this way. Nevertheless, this series feels like family to me, and I am already impatiently waiting for the next book! Thank you, Kay Bratt for sharing your immense talent in these pages!
I received a copy of this book from the author through Netgalley in exchange for fair and honest review.
This is the second book in a series but don’t let that prevent you from reading now. It can be easily read as a stand alone as the author gives enough backstory in her character builds that you are fully engaged in the story and their lives. You will want to read the other book of you haven’t because you will want to stay transported on a beautiful Hawaiian Island. The characters come alive and the settings described are magical. There are picturesque lush rain forests, beautiful tropical flowers along with ocean waves made for surfing. The cover gives a good description of the story so no book report required. The story has many facets covering family friends, relationships, and many life events. Its hard to put down once you’ve started reading! Great beach or anytime read!
I was provided an Advanced Reader Copy of the book and was under no obligation to provide a review. The opinions expressed are my own. Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
No Place Too Far is set on beautiful Hawaii. The scenery and customs are described in such detail you are able to visualize each location. This is a story of two friends with very different things going on in their life but both thinking in the same direction.
Kay Bratt has written an incredible story. The book is written with such depth of feeling, the reader literally feels everything the characters feel. It is very evident that each word and part of this story was written with care.
I recommend this book, but I would suggest that you read True To Me first as this is a 2 part series and it helps to know Quinn’s story.
Full five for this one! I loved the first book True To Me and I loved this one just as much! I was so happy to read more about Quinn and Liam and how their love story grew. I was glad that the author refreshed my memory on the story of Quinn because there were a few details I had forgotten. Maggie, Quinn’s best friend, was a character that really grew on me. Fortunately I’ve never had to deal with a stalker so I can only imagine how horrible and scary it would be. The author did a wonderful job writing it into the storyline. I am so excited to see where Book 3 will take us. After the scary ordeal Maggie faced on the island with her stalker, will she stay in Maui or will she leave? And how will Quinn and Liam’s story continue? I can’t wait to find out! By far my favorite part of this book is that it’s set in Maui – my favorite place on Earth. I’ve been there 4x and was supposed to be there this past July but had to cancel due to the pandemic. Thank you Kay Bratt for the perfect descriptions of Maui and helping me escape in my mind and imagine that I was there. I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves an emotional and suspenseful drama.
Thank you to the author, Net Galley and Lake Union Publishing for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
The second book in the By the Sea series, No Place Too Far returns the reader to Maui where Maggie Dalton is searching for a safe haven. By turns suspenseful, poignant, and ultimately heartwarming the story celebrates the bonds of family and true friendship. A page-turner you won’t want to put down. Highly recommended.
Another hit for Kay Bratt. Return to Hawaii with this gripping tale of Maggie, a woman haunted by her past. She wants a new life for her and her son, but she has to face the man who terrorizes her to claim a new future. Excellent writing, and the warmth you come to expect from Bratt.
