“In NO PLACE TO DIE, Jaden Skye creates a set of characters that are very well developed, and makes you cheer for our heroine on every page. The environment and the overall description of scenes are superb, making you feel the suspense in the air the whole time. Jaden Skye is a natural story teller and the plot is intelligent and intense, developing at a nice pace. The book was well edited and is … is an easy read…I can hardly wait to put my hands on the second volume of this series….I recommend this book to the permanent library of all readers that enjoy a well written suspense/romance.”

In No Place To Die Olivia Wells and Todd Denton are enjoying a weekend trip in Key West when Todd gets sick and dies. After only knowing each for five months Olivia immediately meets Todd’s family. The reunion is met with suspicion. Even her own family has questions and concerns. She’s just a woman who needs to know what happened to the man she loved.
Neither family were very supportive. Neither seemed distraught about the death too focused on the Todd hiding his relationship with Olivia.
Olivia works for a publishing company in Manhattan where she met Todd.
They dated for five months before he took her to Key West for a surprise weekend getaway. No one knew about their relationship. When Todd died all anyone could say was how they never heard of her and that five months is too soon to be in love. Olivia was interrogated for her insta-love relationship with Todd and the secrecy behind it.
Ms. Skye was too overbearing in her representation of Todd’s family’s reaction to Todd’s death. I struggled with the dialogue. The way Todd’s family spoke to Olivia and the doctors was inappropriate for the situation. It was obvious Ms. Skye was going for dramatic effects, but I was rolling my eyes with these conversations. Every character was on the offensive and I couldn’t understand what was with using this form of dialogue.
The storyline was repetitive rehashing the same explanation over and over again. Very little progress happened in the story with the recurring opinions of the police and doctors spewing the same reason for Todd’s death.
There was an over abundance of characters which added unnecessary drama. Olivia’s character was underdeveloped especially with all the negative comments being addressed about her relationship with Todd. I was disappointed with the form of questioning being made towards Olivia’s five month relationship. This line of questioning was irrelevant.
I found so many issues about the writing style of this book. I conclude that Ms. Skye’s writing style doesn’t line up with what I deem an interesting storyline. When looking for a thriller I look for dialogue driven story’s with a fast pace. I had to stop and vent too many times while reading because of the ludicrous written dialogue and the form of questioning.
A lot can be said for research. It’s noticeable when an author takes the time to research topics and information to enhance the story. With that said I noticed Ms. Skye didn’t do her research regarding police procedures. Even the police officer stated he couldn’t have solve this case without the help of Olivia. She is not a police officer which shows how incompetent these officers are.
Olivia’s character was an amateur detective trying to unfold her lovers secrets. There was an abundance of jumping to conclusions. I had to wonder on more than one occasion why the police hadn’t conducted a proper investigation.
Narrator:
Sarah Pavelec was the solo performer in this unabridged audiobook. There were a few errors in this audiobook performance where lines were repeated. But it wasn’t enough to deter from the story. Sarah read the scenes word perfectly providing a great listening experience.
I wish there was something good I could say about this book, but there isn’t. From the whining Olivia to the other poorly developed characters, there just wasn’t much here. Like some others, I kept hoping the story would get better. Weak story line, weaker characters, too easy to figure out who was the killer. On top of all that….unrealistic when Olivia is asked to stay to help with homicide cases. Really???? Where in real life do people inserting themselves into police investigation get asked to stay and work for them. Glad I didn’t pay for this story.
I received “No Place to Vanish” free. Since I saw that it was the second book in the series, and since the first book “No Place to Die” was also free, I got it too because I figured it would make me more familiar with the characters. The story in “No Place to Die” is very interesting. But it felt more like I was reading a newspaper article. Interesting, but I wasn’t connected to anyone in the story. I felt most of the characters were very angry and hateful. The main character seems nice but perhaps a little full of herself. I never did connect with her. Same with “No Place to Vanish”. Interesting story but found most of the characters to be unlikable to me. I would recommend the books just for the interesting stories though.
loved it
Poorly written
It was just ok, nothing special.
Still reading it but it’s great
A little bit unbelievable.
I enjoyed the assortment of characters in this mystery.
GOOD BOOK MUST READ FOR THRILL I LIKE THE PART WHERE SHE GETS DECAPITATED
Olivia and Todd go to Key West for a holiday. Todd proposes to Olivia. Todd soon ends up dead. From here the story unravels some twists to keep you guessing. I wanted to keep reading to find the ultimate answer to this mystery.
Good read for a dreary afternoon
Because it was not only fast passed, romantic but also unprdictable. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
It was easy to identify with the main character and I enjoyed this quick read very much. I would read more in this series! I did not want to put this book down until I read every last page!
Was pretty good keeping my attention because I wanted to know what was gonna happen next but by the end I just wanted it to be over.
It was a must read. Ready to turn the pages and read more to find out the suspense with Todd and Olivia.
I loved it! Thought it was great! It kept me interested all the way through.
This book was predictable, but I did enjoy reading it on my free time.
I found this book to be a tragic train wreck. I couldn’t make it past a few chapters and I’m glad I stopped. The protagonist is unlikable and desperate, her sole purpose in life is to please her boyfriend/fiance and she is worthless without a partner, apparently. Not sure how others found this as a good story.
It’s difficult to believe that it’s not until the end that characters realize that Todd was not the intended victim.
