From Wall Street Journal bestselling author J. S. Scott.Dante Sinclair never cared about his family’s money. All the ultra-sexy billionaire ever wanted was to be a cop; and now that he’s a homicide detective in Los Angeles, he’s a damn good one. I enjoyed reading this book! Dante who is hurt on the job and recovering from a gun shot wound and having problems dealing with the death of his parnter goes home and meets Sarah who is a doctor in that town and is very attracted to her. Dante wants her and Sarah also wants him but refuses because she is his doctor but he keeps persuading her so Sarah turns him over to another doctor so she can date him. Sarah has a secret which comes out in and it drew me in to find out what happens and how this story ends. I recommend this book!!!!!
So I love crime thrillers and am not so much into romance. But this book had enough balance between the two to be actually fun to read! I didn’t need the sex described just as graphically, but I sure loved the developing romance between Sarah and Dante and found myself rooting for the happily ever after!
Always enjoy j s Scott books. Lots of heat, good characters, interesting stories with a twist, but always a happy ending.
Dante Sinclair is healing physically after being shot, but emotionally not so much. He lost his best friend and his partner. Now his brother Grady has brought him back to Amesport to rest and recover. Dr Sarah Baxter will be his physician while in Amesport. She’s tough and no nonsense and finally sets him straight. He finally sees that his pity party has to stop. Plus the good doctor has him captivated. When Sarah’s life is put in danger it gives Dante the excuse he needs to keep her close. He also starts giving her a lot of things that she missed out on as a child; dolls, games and even a bicycle. Although, they plan for Sarah to join Dante in L.A. when he returns to wprk he realizes with certainty that Amesport is the best place for both of them to get their HEA!
Let me introduce you to, Dante Sinclair. He’s a police officer working in homicide, so officially a homicide detective and good at what he does.
Unfortunately his long term partner Patrick dies in the line of duty, nothing Dante did could save him and that is tearing him apart. He’s in hospital can’t even make his best friends funeral.
Things are looking bleak for Dante right now.
All his family rush to see him when they find out what’s happened, it’s agreed he will go with Grady his younger brother back to Maine until he is well. This is where we meet Doctor Sarah Baxter, she will be looking after Dante, not that he wants any help, he wants to feel the pain, believing he deserves it for not saving his partner who had a family. He had nothing, no one to care for.
Sarah was just what he needed. When Sarah first met Dante, the first encounter didn’t go down to well but boy was she attracted to him. She couldn’t believe how hot he looked but even though he was a fine specimen of a man, she wouldn’t go there, not just because he was a patient of hers, but because she didn’t like sex. She only did it once and that was enough, she thought she wasn’t good at it.
Sarah was a genius, working her whole life to be better, brighter. Her mother constantly pushing her, no real childhood to speak of. I think they both needed each other. Once Dante stop being so stubborn and actually starting caring about Sarah when he caused her harm, he realised that he wanted to protect her and she definitely needed protecting. Her past had literally come to haunt her.
This story was so detailed, I really felt like I knew Dante and Sarah. I was gasping at one point at the heart in my mouth moments. The romance is beautiful to read. The sex scenes are explosive. I just know Author JS Scott fans are going to fall in love with Dante as I have. Another brilliant read by an excellent Author.
Thank you so much for sharing this amazing story.
I love these characters! Dante and Sarah are so good together. He’s tender, considerate, and completely alpha. She’s a genius, sweet and innocent. Together their chemistry is off the charts. This story is fun, flirty, full of sexy times with a bit of suspense and danger.
Sarah and Dante are solving the case of love in Amesport and it’s hot hot hot! Sarah has finally found a home in the seaside hamlet of Amesport Maine. A place where she is not the prodigy doctor that her mother’s rearing left social stunted and awkward. She is just Dr Sarah – small town GP whose quirks are accepted. Leaving Chicago and the ghosts of her attack behind her there was one of the smartest things she has ever done (and she’s a genius) even if that means upsetting her critical mother. Her newest patient though might be a tough challenge, Hero Cop Dante Sinclair is stubborn and smoking with his sights sets on paying a much more adult game of doctor with her. Survivor’s’ Guilt is what they keep telling Dante he has but the buzz word doesn’t do anything to alleviate the crushing pain he feels over the loss of Patrick. His best friend and partner had so much more to live for than Dante and he let him down. Headed back to Amesport to recuperate from his own injuries he just wants to keep the pain going to remember what was lost to the world and himself. When he meets his new doctor he is floored to discover that she makes him start to think about something outside the immeasurable grief and pain he has been feeling. When Sarah’s past comes back to threaten her, Dante knows he cannot risk losing her and will do anything to keep her safe.
I am a new fan of Author J.S. Scott and i think her work is wonderful. I will be reading more.
5 stars
Fun and sexy and a great start to this series. Dante Sinclair was hurt on the job as a homicide officer in LA and now he is back in Amesport, Maine, recuperating. This is where he meets Sarah Baxter, the local doctor who moved to town from Chicago and she completely turns his world upside down. It is apparent she could be the one to bring him down but really she gives him a reason to live. Excellent read! I am now going back and picking up previous series while waiting for new releases in the series I’m working on by this author. Totally worth it!
Looking forward to reading more about the Sinclairs, Dante is total alpha, Sarah is a genius Dr. they both had issues which together they overcome, their story is pretty good!
Audio borrowed via KU. It’s like the author couldn’t decide whether this was suspense, romance, erotica, childhood trauma, or Billionaire. The problem is that none of them are pulled off particularly well. Yes, there’s a lot of sex, but it’s ruined by a failure to expand vocabulary beyond “f***”. (I have absolutely no issue with the f-word, I’m only *** it because Amazon/Audible kick reviews out with it spelled out). But when that’s the only word in Dante’s vernacular it lacks depth. It doesn’t actually come off as sexy.
There’s also a LOT of repetition, both in the internal dialogue and in descriptions. Sarah’s always lamenting her childhood, but without variety. Two different times Sarah wears a dress and except for the color it is described almost identically. Also, the internal dialogue doesn’t match what the characters tell each other. Dante talks of wanting Sarah in a way he’s never wanted anyone else, yet he keeps saying he has to go back to CA.
I guess Dante is supposed to be “alpha”, but he comes off more as controlling and disrespectful rather than protective.
Dante’s horrible childhood and Sarah’s mom’s weird parenting are mentioned a few times but aren’t really fleshed out in a meaningful way.
The suspense part is created through a stalker after Sarah. Unfortunately it just sort of drops in and out of the story at about 40% and then as a “big scene” at about 65%. Monologue info dumps ruin any real story depth. The actual “action” is kind of predictable and cheesy.
I think the narrator brought a LOT to this production and I’m not sure I would have finished it if I was just reading it. Tolerable as a free borrow, but not the kind of story I’d spend a credit on or want to listen to more than once.
This is the same as any J.S. Scott book. You don’t want to miss out. I still have no idea why I put off reading this series. This is definitely a must read.
Lovely Story
I have just come to love all these billionaires that J.S. Scott has given us. They are such tough men, but the moment a women comes into the picture they seem to melt like butter. Of course they all seem to have issues that the men don’t see, now if only there were more men like that in the world. Makes me wonder if there are really billionaires that think like these ones do.
The storylines are always so perfect. You have drama and lots of loving even if the characters don’t realize they are falling hard.
Until Next Time… Tabi
It was not one of my preferred reads. It did have some twists and turns to it but I just felt that it fell somewhere between steamy and sweat and with romance stories I’m not a fan of the in-between. The twist in the story is what kept my attention. However, again it felt in-between and I didn’t feel as though the author committed to the drama that could have taken place. Overall an OK read.
Unrealistic, un-romantic….
