The #1 New York Times bestselling author of Final Target, Iris Johansen raises the stakes and the heart rate with this relentless thriller that follows the harrowing trail of a ruthless killer on the hunt—and the woman who is determined to hunt him down. He is the most terrifying of killers: ruthless, cunning, charismatic. And he has the means to get whatever he wants. And what Rico … whatever he wants. And what Rico Chavez wants most is Elena Kyler—and he wants her dead. Trained as an assassin, Elena didn’t need anyone to survive. But now she finds herself on the run from one dangerous man and turning for help to another.
Sean Galen was a man without illusions. He knew it was only desperation that caused Elena to accept his help—a mother’s desperation to save her young son from a psychopath father who would raise their son in his own chilling image. And yet he was determined to get this woman who had never been able to trust anyone or anything in her whole life to accept him as her ally. But both Galen and Elena know that Chavez’s power and wealth mean there is no place they can be safe and no one they can trust—not even each other. Already Chavez’s assassins and connections to those in the highest positions of power have turned this into a war with no rules.
With two shocking acts of brutal violence, Chavez shows he will stop at nothing and that nothing will stop him. Soon a trail of horrifying murders will follow Galen and Elena across country to a last stand and a shattering showdown. For Chavez is a master of control and he wants more than just to take Elena’s life. He wants her alive long enough to see him destroy every reason she has for living. He wants her to turn against everything and everyone she ever believed in. He wants her to commit the ultimate act of betrayal. And by the time he is through, he wants her to beg him to take the only thing she’ll have left to give: her life.

I love Iris Johansen. Her books are so great if you enjoy crime stories and mysteries. She also throws in some romance. A little paranormal is in some of her books regardless I havent read one yet that I didnt really enjoy!
This book was terrible. I’ve read a handful of Iris Johansen books and thought they were pretty good but this one definitely wasn’t. It seems to start right out in the middle of a story of a woman escaping a Colombian prison. There is no explanation of why she’s there, and there’s no background info on any of the characters. It’s as if it’s part of a bigger book in which they took a hunk out and made it into another book. You get some snippets here and there but mostly the book just seemed to be pointless. I had wondered if maybe it was part of a series or something but from what I can tell, it isn’t. Can’t recommend this one and I’ll throw it on the nearest donation pile for some other poor sucker to grab up. Maybe they’ll find something to like about it.
Predominantly a romantic novel that did not appeal to me.
This book will keep you turning pages well into the night or early morning.
Scary real.
Great read will read more with this character!!
This author is skilled at creating beautiful, empowered woman with a problem, as proven in her series featuring Eve Duncan. In this stand-alone novel, Elena Kyler’s problem is Chavez, a powerful drug lord in Columbia who happens to be the father of her son, Barry. Even though Elena is a hardened rebel trained to use weapons and in hand-to-hand combat, she still needs help keeping her son safe. Help comes in the form of a hunk named Galen, a special ops kind of guy. This face-paced thriller has all the sexual tension and action I love from Iris Johansen. Sometimes predictable, but always entertaining, I found this book an easy, worthwhile read.
Very engrossing!
What would you do if someone wanted to kill you to get to your son?
The book has great characters and story line.
I felt like I was going through everything the woman was going through.
Eve Duncan and her story have captured me all those years ago when she first hit the scene. Her tragic story and all the paths she has gone down; I have followed every one.
I loved this book. Re-read every so often. Galen is a wonderful character.
What a wonderful book and the characters are well rounded. I love reading all her books in this series, I have most all of them. She can bring a thoughtful storyline that makes you want to be a part of it. Keeps your attention from the beginning to the end.
Love her works
Probably my favorite Iris Johansen book.
Have read her forever. Really good
Very good. Just what you’d expect from Iris Johansen. Interesting characters. Fast paced and like I said very good.
I am totally enamored with the Eve Duncan series.
As always, her books are terrific!
Almost all of her books are worth your while! Very gripping!
This is a spin off from the Eve Duncan series, a mother’s worse nightmare her young son taken by his father to be raised in a hard and twisted way and abused.
The mother is a accomplished assassin in her own right, but can she keep it together to get her son out safely after all these years gone by.
A terrific read, that will keep you turning the pages one after the other to get to the conclusion @
