Another amazing book from Kate O’Keeffe in the wonderful world of the High Tea Cozy Cottage Café. It’s great to reconnect with all the characters we’ve come to know and love from reading the first book in this spin-off series.
Darcy is sick of going on awful dates and wants to change that, but in doing so, she goes on even worse (albeit hilarious) dates. The push and pull between Darcy and Alex – the guy she claims to hate – is really well done.
I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series!
Kate O’Keeffe is back with another round of the most “terrible, horrendous, completely diabolical dates” ever to happen to her hilarious heroines. In this case, it’s Darcy vs. the undateable. Drinking hazard alert: do not sip beverages while reading this book. Given the pacing of the jokes, your Kindle will thank you for not spraying it with coffee when you laugh.
The previous book had left me dying to know why Darcy has hated Sophie’s cousin Alex since high school. Given the way he teases her, it’s clear the hate is not mutual. We join Darcy on her wild rollercoaster ride of conflicted feelings and desires as she has to work side by side with Alex to mount an exhibit of his photos.
Some of the funniest moments in the book involve the cast of secondary characters. I think Darcy’s boss, Larissa, deserves a book of her own. And Larissa is sure to agree, provided the book’s cover is blue and sourced from magical tree bark. And speaking of blue, I award the blue ribbon to Darcy’s equestrian-minded date for his delightful performance. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!
I really liked that the book in based here in New Zealand but I didn’t really connect that much with Darcy or Alex and I would have also thought Darcy would know a lot more about what Alex has been up to if only for the connection via his cousin. There were some good laughs as well as cringe worthy moments that make you want to stick with this to see how it all pans out. I think I will go back and read other in the series as I do want to get to know the characters more and it may just be these books are best read together rather than as a stand alone?

It is always really annoying when something happened to you when you were younger that you found socially scarring- and the perpetrators have no memory of the incident.
One bully, had the gall to say something along the lines of: well we were young and I have no memory so it must not have been too bad a thing, right? Still a jerk right? Alex had the temerity to embarrass Darcy as a teen, and been a continuing plonker since then.
When Darcy has epic fails in her efforts to have not awful dates, Alex messes with her emotions.
Has the male finally committed to being a man and less of a jerk? Is he capable of being less of a jerk more often? Does he care enough to make it worthwhile to try ?
Funny, too tru, and sometimes sweet / sometimes annoying.
