NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Get ready for the ultimate Jack Reacher experience: a thrilling new novella and eleven previously published stories, together for the first time in one pulse-pounding collection from Lee Child. No Middle Name begins with “Too Much Time,” a brand-new work of short fiction that finds Reacher in a hollowed-out town in Maine, where he witnesses a random bag-snatching but … witnesses a random bag-snatching but sees much more than a simple crime. “Small Wars” takes readers back to 1989, when Reacher is an MP assigned to solve the brutal murder of a young officer found along an isolated forest road in Georgia—and whose killer may be hiding in plain sight. In “Not a Drill,” Reacher tries to take some downtime, but a pleasant hike in Maine turns into a walk on the wild side—and perhaps something far more sinister. “High Heat” time-hops to 1977, when Reacher is a teenager in sweltering New York City during a sudden blackout that awakens the dark side of the city that never sleeps. Okinawa is the setting of “Second Son,” which reveals the pivotal moment when young Reacher’s sharp “lizard brain” becomes just as important as his muscle. In “Deep Down,” Reacher tracks down a spy by matching wits with four formidable females—three of whom are clean, but the fourth may prove fatal. Rounding out the collection are “Guy Walks into a Bar,” “James Penney’s New Identity,” “Everyone Talks,” “The Picture of the Lonely Diner,” “Maybe They Have a Tradition,” and “No Room at the Motel.”
No suitcase. No destination. No middle name. No matter how far Reacher travels off the beaten path, trouble always finds him. Feel bad for trouble.
Praise for No Middle Name
“Captivating . . . classic [Lee] Child . . . This volume demonstrates what his fans already know: he’s a born storyteller and an astute observer.”—Publishers Weekly (starred review)
“Lee Child, like his creation, always knows exactly what he’s doing—and he does it well. Time in his company is never wasted.”—Evening Standard

No Middle Name is a collection of a dozen Jack Reacher short stories. There’s information about Reacher’s early life; his parents, family, schools, growing up. Lots of action, some of it rather strange. All of it typical Reacher. A number of the stories have been around for quite a while but I’d never read them. I enjoyed them all. An enjoyable bit of Lee Child’s talent.
This is a book of short stories, most of which have been published elsewhere. They provide additional insights into Jack Reacher’s character. Each short story is satisfying and written in true Lee Child manner.
Second Son is one of my all time favorite short stories. I think it gives a lot of insight into Reacher’s bizarre personality. Most of the stories in this anthology are worth reading.
This is a collection of Jack Reacher short stories. The stories provide several interesting insights into the Jack Reacher character. Each story stands on its own. This book will definitely entertain you.
I am a reluctant short story reader. NO MIDDLE NAME is a collection of short stories that give the reader glimpses into Jack Reacher, army brat. I enjoyed the collection for what it teaches the reader about a young Reacher and what it doesn’t teach the reader.
Normally all of Child’s Jack Reacher books rate a 5 with me. Most of these short stories qualify, but a few of them were just… well they felt like filler. Fluff. At least 3 stories had no real purpose. Still good reads, though. (No pun intended)
More of the usual – which ain’t bad.
Unusual situations with straightforward, hard-hitting development. This book contains a dozen short stories from all stages in Jack Reacher’s life. Each is self-contained, well developed without any extra fluff.
Lee Child is one of the most natural story-tellers I have had the privilege to read. Each and every story about Jack Reacher has an excitement and an elegance about. The ageless about the savior and the bully. If you haven’t read a Lee Child then buy one today because if you have read one then you’ve read them all.
I had been told that the Jack Reacher series was absolutely addictive, and that turned out to be true! A good intro pack of short stories to get you started.
I enjoyed these short stories
As many readers know, Lee Child’s Jack Reacher character is strangely appealing. All of the Reacher books are great stories, filled with action and suspense. If you like thrillers and haven’t read them, you’re in for a treat.
It is Jack Reacher, nothing else needs to be said. This series has really created its own genre. I love the series.
First Reacher book won’t be my last. I like how Jack is portrayed as the good- bad guy. This book will give you a good understanding of his character before reading the other books out there.
I love all the Jack Reacher books and have read them all in order. This doesn’t disappoint those who are loyal fans of Jack Reacher. Although it helps to read them in order, it isn’t a requirement as there are really just subtle hints from the previous books. If you haven’t read any of the other Reacher books, this would still be a good one. I’d recommend this and the other Reacher books.
Lee Child’s hero Jack Reacher has appeared in a multitude of the author’s books. However, “No Middle Name” is not Child’s usual novel; it is a. collection of original short stories featuring Jack Reacher – twelve, to be exact. Perfect to start and finish your evening before sleep!
This is an anthology of 3 Reacher short stories. I always enjoy reading Reacher’s exploits.
It’s Reacher. Need I say more? I just wish Lee Child would write faster.
My Type of Book.
The books, by this author, have always been one of my favorites and, this one is no exception. If you like “who done it” type suspense, with a twist but, believable characters, the series of books, by this author, are certainly well worth reading. Each story is exciting, realistic as well as believable, always with a unique twist.
