She’s the sunny new teacher. He’s the village curmudgeon. Is man’s best friend the key to happily ever after?
Cherry Waites never thought her idyllic marriage of ten years would end with divorce papers. Humiliated to finally discover her husband’s year-long affair, she accepts a teaching position on a secluded island and hopes for a better life. But her new beginning hits a rocky start when she … hits a rocky start when she trips over a grump’s beloved dog.
Matteo Capen shares some choice words with the clumsy new schoolteacher he mistakes for a tourist. She’s too chatty, too cheery, and there’s something about her smile that seems forced. Plus, she keeps interrupting his tightly controlled routines, the ones he depends on to keep his panic disorder and agoraphobia at bay. But when his dogs take a liking to her, he starts to wonder if it’s worth probing beneath her bright facade to reach the broken woman hiding underneath.
Though Cherry’s eternal optimism rubs Matteo the wrong way, he gallantly steps in when her online dating attempts end in disaster. And as the winter storm season approaches, Cherry wonders if her future might offer another chance.

I thought this was great how Cherry wrote letters to douche bag after she moved to Whispering Pines Island so you could really see the emotions she was going through and how they changed over time. The island really does seem like a great community where everyone is there for each other and they really showed Cherry this from the moment sh arrived at the ferry and got to her flat well apart from Matteo that is! There is plenty of emotions you go through with this book from laughing, shaking her head in disappointment as well as wanting to shed a tear or bite your nails with what is going on. This is the first book I have read in the series and will be buying book 1 know so I can read Cara and Sams story as I have fallen in love with the people of this small island.

Cherry found herself accepting a teaching position on Whispering Pines Island after discovering her husband was having an affair when she thought they were going to be starting a family. Her first day there she runs into Matteo and he is surly and a jerk. He’s like that through the whole book, but also he speaks without a filter, has his mind in the gutter, and can be funny. I didn’t always like him, but I loved his three dogs. Cherry doesn’t want to live her life alone so she signs up for an online dating site and meets a lot of unpleasant men. There were a lot of highs and lows in this story and several funny moments.
Reading this book was like taking a trip on a emotional rollercoaster… From calm to getting pissed and annoyed to getting calm again…my word. I loved the storyline (even though my blood boiled a few times…) and the characters, except Gary that is..
I really loved Matteo and the chemistry he shared with Cherry. Would love to read more about them.

This is a new Author to me I found this to be a well-written story that once I started I was not putting it down until I was finished. Cherry and Matteo both have issues to get through Cherry’s is her cheating ex-husband, that was one man that got what he deserved.
