Good, but nothing special.
Didn’t like the ending letting you hanging.
This was the first time I had read this author. I want to try another one of her books.
Felt like it didn’t finish
Interesting story w/out being too intense.
Wish I knew it was a series and didnt end with that book
Great characters, fully believable, good story. A family with each person having major problems. Ending was a cliff hanger…
Hate to read a book that doesn’t end, you must buy 2 more books to finish story. It wouldn’t take much effort to be upfront about the fact so people could make the choice if they wanted to invest the time and money. That’s the reason for 2 stars. It’s not a bad book, has good storyline and believable characters. Would’ve given it 4 stars if it would have ended.
An enjoyable storyline starting with the tragic loss of her husband and follows the widow, Mae, in her attempts to rebuild her life while attempting to help address the issues of her grown children whose lives seem to go off track after the loss of their father bringing them back to their family home while dealing with personal issues. A heartwarming story following each of their lives as well as Mae being given a second chance at happiness
Too predictable.
i did not care for this book. Got about 50 pages read and then went on to another book.
Love books set on Nantucket and this one didn’t disappoint!
Good easy read
Loved Mae’s family and their realistic joys, challenges and sad moments. Their individual stories were artfully woven together so naturally, just as our lives happen. Had to read the next two books in the series and loved them, too.
Fabulous read!
No Home Like Nantucket was an enjoyable read. In it you’ll become acquainted with the Benson family. Parents, Mae and Henry, and their adult children, Eliza, Sara, Holly, and Brent. Each family member is dealing with their own struggles while also coping with an expected familial loss. This story is told from each of the Benson’s perspectives in their respective chapters. While their personalities and personal struggles vary, there is the underlying bond of love and a supportive family that helps them find their way through. I enjoyed getting to know each of them and am looking forward to finding out where life takes them in the rest of this series. There is no cliffhanger ending in this book nor is there a HEA. Instead the story halts and you’ll need to pick up a copy of the next installation (No Beach Like Nantucket) in order to find out what comes next.
This is a beautifully written story with so much emotion and depth, that I became invested in the story from the beginning and could not put it down. I love family stories and it was wonderful seeing how the family comes together and supports each other while dealing with their issues. I lost my dad, too, many years ago, and I could easily put myself in Brent’s place and feel for myself all the emotions Ms. Palmer was trying to portray through her writing. All the characters were strong and endearing and full of great personalities and depth, with realistic and relatable qualities. Ms. Palmer is truly a talented writer and I am so glad I picked up her book. If you are looking for a heartwarming, sweet, family read you definitely don’t want to miss this book. I’m really looking forward to the next one!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I could relate to this book because I lost my Dad. I was so lost afterward. Grace Palmer writes this story just like the way I felt almost 30 years ago.
My favorite part of the book was when Brent said, the funny thing about people like Henry-people of strong and unique character- is that, even when they’re not around, the people who know and love them know they’d say and do if they happen to be in the neighborhood. Brent could hear his Dad’s voice in his ear, as clear as if the man himself were standing just behind him out of sight. I can so relate to that. Still today I sometimes feel that way.
I think so many people have had things happen that they too had to pick up the pieces of their lives and this book was just like that. Struggling with rebuilding or putting the pieces back together. Doubts, questions, taking the first step to move forward. That is what Mae, Henry’s wife said, we are a forward-moving family and we have to start looking forward. That is what my mother said.
The book does leave us with so many unanswered questions but book 2 will be releasing in June. I think the way the author left the book is perfect for what the book is about. There was this gap that was between being so lost and starting to pick up the pieces for me.
I was surprised to learn she was a new author and I am glad she wrote this story. I keep thinking this was a story she just had to write. Even though I lost my Dad almost 30 years ago this book reminds me so much of what I went through. At the time I wondered if I would make it through but it is the little things, like Brent feeling his Dad was standing behind him whispering in his ear, or the memories and feeling like even though Dad isn’t here physically, he is still with us and guiding us.
Everyone is going to lose someone so special to them and I think they will find comfort in reading this book. It also gives you an understanding of what someone is going through when they lose someone special.
This is a very emotional family drama set in Nantucket with the Benson family. The family all have suffered a trauma and life will never be the same but each family member comes together to help each other during this life changing event. My only problem was the book ended suddenly and I felt we were left hanging.
One New England family living through tragedy and change: romantic and heartwarming
I think I am going to love this series! This introduction to the Benson family of Nantucket Island is chockful of great subplots related to the lives and loves of Henry and Mae and their four adult children. Every subplot drew me in, and Henry and Mae’s forty year marriage/love story set the backdrop for Eliza, Sara, Brent and Holly’s stories.
As the seasons and the relaxed island life give the family time to recover from tragedy, there’s also reconnection between siblings, new chances at romance and some difficult choices to make about whither their future paths goest.
The family saga only begins with this book, and most of the subplots have a story yet to be resolved by the book’s end. I am not usually a reader who enjoys stories with cliffhanger endings, but with No Home Like Nantucket I will make an exception. I loved the heartwarming family supportiveness and can’t wait for the next Sweet Island Inn volume to appear!
