When an avalanche crushes her world, Olympic hopeful Starr Taylor loses her job, her boyfriend, and worst of all, her confidence. She’s working on getting her life back together and moving forward, and it certainly won’t be with Spencer Kensington, the far-too-attractive playboy lawyer she’s forced to play nice with at their friends’ wedding. Unfortunately, Spencer’s trip to Reno gets extended … unexpectedly, and Starr suddenly finds herself way too close for comfort with the man she’s quickly realizing is more than he appears.
Spencer is a tough, no-nonsense New York businessman with a no-commitment rule in the bedroom. But a few days of living with Starr, feeding goats and helping her save troubled teens, has him feeling something he can’t identify. In fact, the more Spencer gets to know the surprisingly vulnerable and tempting woman, the duller his superficial life in the city starts to seem. But everything he’s worked for is waiting for him, and as Spencer’s flight back home grows closer, he’s left wondering if the life he has is really the life he wants.

Wonderful sweet read that me hours of entertainment leaving me with a sigh and a smile. Troubled Starr touched my heart and Spencer was just so cute! The author did a great job of developing these characters and letting their story flow from the pages of the book. I’ve enjoyed both stories in this series and I’m looking forward to more. I definitely recommend this one.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and Entangled Bliss and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable read. I really fell for Spencer and Starr. I absolutely fell for JJ (the young boy with autism). The plot was so real and heart-felt. I can’t imagine what Starr went through and the after effect that she suffered through. Spencer, the typical alpha male, had women falling all over men but ultimately he fell hard for Starr. These two had some very funny spots in their journey to their HEA and some that were difficult because of miscommunication but ultimately the journey was completed very nicely.
I didn’t feel at any time that the story felt forced or slow. The plot was well done and had a great sense of timing. I really appreciated the dual POV format. Seeing the characters’ thought process (especially Starr’s) was very well written and just wonderfully human.
The author eluded to bedroom scenes but was left to the reader’s imagination. I would recommend this book to anyone.
A small town romance complete with chickens and a goat. When Starr and Spencer first meet does not make a very good impression on her. She is a small town girl recovering from a major accident. He is a big city lawyer behaving like a cad. As they spend more time together Starr finds it hard to control her need to say what is on her mind. This freshness of speech fascinates Spencer who is normally dealing with people who hide their feelings. The longer he spends in the country and the more time with Starr the more they fall for each other. There is witty banter and a great look at how past events can shape your life.
Whilst this is a tale of never judging a book by it’s cover, this cover does do the story justice.
I very much enjoyed this tale of troubled Starr and confused Spencer. Both main characters were incredibly easy to like and empathise with, I could feel myself building an easy connection with them both. Even Starr blowing hot and cold felt understandable given recent events and a controlling ex.
There are quite a few sub-plots running through the book and, whilst they added a lovely depth and richness to the story, I do think they distracted from the romance element a little. I felt the chemistry between the couple, and we had plenty of confuddled feelings from the pair but I wasn’t 100% convinced I’d seen them fall in love. I needed just a touch more passion, I wanted to be swept away by emotion a little more.
No Hearbreaker Required is still very much a full of feels book, in the main emotions and feelings were really well portrayed. JoAnn Sky is very much a talented writer who makes reading feel so easy. That might sound an odd thing to say but I’ve read enough books where it feels as though I’m having to put in effort to get through it. It is never an issue with this book, the story just flows really smoothly, carrying you along in its gentle embrace.
As mentioned before, there are several story strands running throughout the plot. I liked how it added colour to the palette, painting a whole picture for us rather than providing a sketched outline. It also allowed us to gain valuable insight into both Starr and Spencer’s personalities, to see them grow and connect as the story progressed.
Whilst there are some steamier scenes, not only is this fairly slow burn but it is also a fade-to-grey book. However that didn’t make it any less enjoyable of a read but is a plus for those who don’t enjoy graphic or copious sex scenes.
After almost losing her life, & totally losing her nerve, in an avalanche, Starr’s life has fallen apart. You can’t be a champion skier if you’re afraid to ski the mountain. Her boyfriend calls it quits & the company that she’s put her name, research & talents behind, has started to distance themselves from her. She promises herself that once her brother’s wedding is over, she’ll get everything straightened out. She didn’t plan on her soon to be sister in law’s best friend being a jerk that she’s attracted to.
Spencer isn’t one for family or marriage. He couldn’t turn down his best friend when she asked him to be the best man at her wedding. He’s more a short term affair without getting too close guy. So why is he so attracted to Starr? Why can’t he walk away?
This was an enjoyable entertaining story. Starr needed to regain her confidence & her ability to face her fear. Spencer needed to learn to trust again. The story has some side stories that help build momentum towards the end & the final between Starr & Spencer. The supporting characters add to the depth of the story & JJ, Starr’s autistic nephew, adds color & another dimension. The interactions between him & the two main characters were an enjoyable part of the story. The depiction of his character was realistic. Overall, this was an entertaining story that was easy to read & enjoy.
This is the first book I have read by this talented author and it definitely will not be the last.
This one centers around Starr Taylor and Spencer Kensington .
Starr was on the road to becoming an Olympic skier, when an accident occurred on the slopes. Though not physically injured, the psychological issues have paralyzed her and she now fears the slopes. Add to that an ex that broke up with her on the same day of the accident, and her confidence is practically gone.
On her brother’s wedding day, she meets Spencer Kesington, BFF of the bride, and a successful lawyer from the East coast who’s known to be a playboy.
Neither expected the attraction, nor were they prepared for it. Spencer is drawn to Starr and jeopardizes his career for her. Baffling both of them. Starr has the heart of gold, and while she can’t seem to overcome her fears, will do anything for others.
The story is engaging from the first page to the last. The characters are complex and very likable. It is at times heartbreaking as well as heartwarming. A story that will definitely touch your hearts .

No Heartbreak Required by JoAnna Sky a five-star read that will break you. I will be honest I almost gave this a four, as there were parts that it dragged a little and then felt rushed, but overall, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Spencer Kensington pushed me to my limits, I really didn’t like him for quiet a bit of the story, but one fist bump and a watch changed it all for me. Starr Taylor was similar, for parts of the story I wanted to shake her and then all of a sudden, I adored her, and wanted to see her win. I would definitely try this author again.
This is one of those books that is a solid 3-star read and even bordering on a 4-star read because the characters are that darn likeable. Well, at first Spencer isn’t so likeable, but he grows on you. Starr is more than a little lost, but she never really comes across as completely helpless. She’s just lost her confidence in herself. These two rub one another the wrong way in the best of ways. This is easily a fast, fun, and entertaining story you can read in one sitting.
No Heartbreaker Required is a sweet, feel-good romance. Spencer and Starr start out as not quite enemies but definitely not total fans of each other, and the back and forth between them for the first half of the book really move the book along. I also enjoyed seeing JJ (Starr’s nephew by marriage) again and visiting Noah’s ranch (the setting of the first book in the series).
The second half of the book wasn’t quite as tight as the first–things take some complicated turns, and I wasn’t always a fan of the choices and reactions either Starr or Spencer made and had. Still, the ending was satisfying and left me with a warm glow.
Though the second in the series, No Heartbreaker Required should also work just fine as a standalone–the details that it’s helpful to know from book one (background details, really) are given to you here. Chances are, though, that you’ll get just enough of a glimpse of Noah and Grace (and JJ) to want to make you go back to book one if you haven’t read it already.
Rating: 3 1/2 stars / B-
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I not sure what it was but there was just something about Spencer and Taylor that didn’t work for me. I loved Taylor. Spencer rubbed me the wrong way on many occasions. The romance was sweet and simple. It was what it was. I was just expecting more. It was just too easy to put down.
This was slow burn for me and while it was ok I wasn’t sure that these two really fell in love. And also there were alot of little plots that even though it added some stuff to the story I felt it was pages of stuff that we really didn’t need and so it detracted from my enjoyment.
