Amid the carnage of war, he commandeers far more than just her home…Widowed plantation owner Emaline McDaniels has struggled to hold on to her late husband’s dreams. Despite the responsibilities resting on her slender shoulders, she’ll not let anyone rip away what’s left of her way of life—particularly a Yankee officer who wants to set up winter camp on her land. With a defiance born of … of desperation, she defends her home as though it were the child she never had…and no mother gives up her child without a fight!
Despite the brazen wisp of a woman pointing a gun at his head, Colonel Reece Cutteridge has his orders. Requisition Shapinsay—and its valuable livestock—for his regiment’s use, and pay her with Union vouchers. He never expected her fierce determination, then her concern for his wounded, to upend his heart—and possibly his career.
As the armies go dormant for the winter, battle lines are drawn inside the mansion. Yet just as their clash of wills shifts to forbidden passion, the tides of war sweep Reece away. And now their most desperate battle is to survive the war with their lives—and their love—intact.

A moving, romantic Civil-War historical by Cindy Nord, who knows her history — dependable accuracy without overburdening facts.
I love the way this author captured how people from both sides of the Civil War conflict conquered their fears to come to the aid of their enemy. Cindy Nord captured the gut-wrenching heartache of loss along with the joy of finding new love when all seems lost. If you love a good read you can feel, this is the book for you!
This was a wonderful book and a must-read, and Cindy was one of the most wonderful people I’ve ever known. The Romance world has lost a shining star with her passing.
Great Civil War romance. As a reenactor Cindy was able to transport me to the time period.
I loved this book. The story between Emaline Daniels, a southern widow and Reece Cutteridge a Colonel in the Union Army is a true love story. Emaline is struggling to keep her Tobacco Plantation afloat. She has freed her slaves (she never agreed with that practice to begin with) and now only a few stayed behind to help her. Her only living relative (her brother Brennen bk 4) is fighting for the South and she worries about him daily! She also has a magnificent horse stock that she enjoys breeding. She is barely making it but she is never the less surviving! That is until the Union Army arrives and takes everything from her food, her home, livestock, her beloved horses AND her heart. She even ends up helping the Doc save the “enemy” lives. She blames one man…the one she can’t seem to shake: Reece!! Reece hates taking her things and vows to make it up to her, even though he doesn’t have too. What is bothering him the most is how on earth he could have fallen in love with a tiny little spitfire? He second in command Jackson (bk 2) just keeps shaking his head! Jackson knows things are about to explode and he hopes he is far far away!
Between the battles both on and off the field, the descriptive scenery, and the history, you will fall in love with this story. The love Reece feels is so evident, yet he is so fearful of committing during the war. He always seems to be there when needed and even helps her brother when he needs it, even if it could get him court martialed; however, when he is in deep deep trouble both Brennen and Emmy are there to get him through. Like a true family would! Can’t wait to read book 2…
I love historical romances. Mix in the Civil War and I’m one happy girl. This history geek once took a class in college that was completely about the Civil War. So combine the two with a fabulous plot and I think we have a winner.
I’ve read my fair share of Civil War romances where the hero and heroine come from different sides of the conflict, but manage to find their happily ever after. However, it’s the characters and how they get to that ending is what makes No Greater Glory stand out. I was completely drawn in to the story and couldn’t put the book down.
Emaline is a widow trying to manage a plantation with a handful of freed slaves when Reece rides in to claim her home as a camp and hospital for the Union Army. From their meeting, sparks few and I had to keep turning the pages to see what was going to happen next. Both characters are very strong, but had so much heartache and a war dividing them that I kept wondering how that happily ever after was going to come about. Because, let’s face it. This is a romance, we know it’s going to happen.
So many twists and turns made this story such an interesting ride. Add in colorful characters and even some historical figures and events to spice it up and the book just gets better. Ms Nord had me in tears through so much of the book as she touched on so many horrors of the time, but at the same time wrote such a moving romance. It was even refreshing to read a romance that wasn’t an inspriational where anything more than kissing was left to the imagination.
All in all, this was a wonderful read and I can’t wait to revisit this family with book two, With Open Arms, which follows Reece’s sister and his second in command.

Great Story
Loved this book… Civil war setting a southern widow plantation owner falls in love with the captain of the yanks who took her home.
Romantic Civil War page turner!
I’d never heard of Cindy Nord before, but I won’t forget her now! Great writer! Great story!
There is such a strength in this book. Strength in the writing, in the characters and in the storyline. I felt like I was right there, living Emaline and Reece’s story. There was a realness to the story that made it so believable. I was on an emotiomal rollercoaster throughout it all. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and it definately won’t be the last.
The historical backdrop gave a deep reality to the characters.
Absolutely great. Very informative about history. I checked each military person and battle out through Google, very accurately presented. Loved the characters it really was a page turner
Plot interesting but writing style was awkward at times.
An excellent read, especially if you enjoy stories based in the time of the Civil War. Excellent historical accounting of the War as it unfolded in Virginia — around a beautiful fictional story that was both inspiring (romance, courage, relationships), and disturbing (the ugly Truths of what occurred both for civilians and those in the Military on both sides). The author was able to make me feel as if I was there, experiencing it as a civilian.
There was a lot detail, whether the story was focusing on the daily life, or on the maneuvers of the Military operations. I especially enjoyed the many relationships that were developed within this story — between Military officers; between the Virginia plantation owner and her servants (slaves who voluntarily stayed, more as friends) , relationships between the servants; and, of course, the romantic relationship that developed.
Great writing, great character development, and perfectly edited.
Beautifully written with well developed, realistic characters…thoroughly enjoyable
