I enjoyed this book.
The narative jumps back and forth between a couple main characters, but the style of writing was clear and didn’t lend to reading “whip-lash.”
The topic of sociopathology is interesting and this book actually educated me while entertaining me.
Well done. I would read more from this author.
Engrossing and thoughtful. You’ll more than likely be able to relate and know the characters in this entertaining story!
This book wasn’t what I thought it would be from the title. I must admit that I expected something about a horrible killer. Instead, No Conscience follows one man’s journey to discover what it is to be in the life of a sociopath. The author achieved what he set out to when he wanted to write a different story of psychopathy.
No Conscience made me think about the people in my own life and look at them in a different light. I watched the story unfolding. Wes’s plight makes you feel sorry for him, while at the same time wanting to slap him. Phil Williams reveals the details of everyday life in an almost painstaking detail. His style made me emotionally invested in what would happen in the story.
SPOILER ALERT:
Wes’s life falls apart and the one person meant to be there to pick him up, his mother, only compounds his problems. No Conscience follows Wes’s path to discover how insidious his mother can be. Mary, Wes’s mother, is the evil that is lurking in the sunshine. Jogging through the neighborhood. Standing in line at the local coffee shop. Making you question your own actions and choices.
Liking Mr. Williams’ writing more and more with each book I read.
2 stars. As exciting as reading a dull case-study.
It didn’t hold my attention. I could never figure out the plot!
It was good kept me turning the pages
slow beginning, ok middle and unfinished end – not worth the time it takes to read.
I’m not rating this one because I couldn’t get pass the 3rd chapter. The first two chapters really turned me off and how I got through them….well, let’s just say it wasn’t my type of reading due to the graphic sex scene and language I encountered
Sorry….I’m glad that others found this engaging enough to complete and rate at 5*, but I’ll pass on this one.
A sadly realistic take on the far reaching affects a narcissist can have on other’s lives. The controlling sociopathic matriarch of this tale is a frightening character who hides behind a clever mask.
It was an average read
I really liked the style it was written in. It made it so easy to read.
Total waste of time
Unexpected. This was a good book with characters that you’ll remember for a while after you finish the book. The author did a great job of depicting a sociopath.
Wasn’t what I expected.
Didn’t like it.
Good story of family dynamics
This was an interesting and unusual book. It took me a little bit to get into it, but then I couldn’t put it down. Such a strange and unusual story.
Pretty good analysis of sociopathic behavior. Not all of them are criminals as we think of them. They walk among us & this book might open your eyes to such behavior.
This was a very thought-provoking book. Very interesting too. It kept me entertained right to the end.
