My daughter has seen me read and annotate in my Bibles since she was born. When she was about three, I caught her “writing” all over one of her illustrated Bibles. It made my heart happy because I knew she was trying to be like mommy! When Bella turned 6, she asked for a “real” Bible, so my husband and I bought her a Beautiful Word Coloring Bible for girls. At 6, the Bible was still too advanced for her, but she loved to sit next to me while I was reading and annotating and work in hers. She has written and colored all over her book. All of this to say, my daughter and I have a lot of experience with this fantastic Bible for girls. Having one the past 18 months has been a real blessing to both me and Bella. She is working on creating a foundational relationship with God, and I am loving watching her “annotate” and color.
PROS — What Bella and I like the MOST
Tons of journaling space! If you write a lot of notes and thoughts and prayers in the side margins of your Bibles, this is a Bible for you.
Great coloring pages. Some are full-page coloring pages, and some are side-margin coloring spots. All coloring pages illustrate key Bible verses.
When there are notes at the bottom of a page, they are very helpful. As a mom, I like these notes because they help my daughter understand what she is reading a little better.
The text is easy to read. I am a fan of ESV translations, but that is way too difficult a translation for my almost-eight-year-old. The NIV Beautiful Word Coloring Bible for Girls is perfect for her. I have Bella read to me, and so far, she hasn’t had any real struggles with the language in this text.
CONS — What Bella and I don’t like
We don’t have any CONS!
The NIV Beautiful Word Coloring Bible for Girls is an excellent starter Bible for girls, and I highly recommend it. What an excellent gift to give to your daughter or granddaughter this Christmas!

A nice Bible for girls
I really like this Bible!
It has a fun cover that has a leather-like feel yet it has a hard binding that seems like it would hold up to a little bit of abuse, which I am assuming it will get at the hands of a younger girl.
I also like the way it lays pretty flat – with as many pages as it has, though, flat is a relative term. As mentioned in the description, the paper is a little thicker than in my other Bibles and seems like it would hold up well to note taking and coloring.
The verses for coloring are well distributed throughout the Bible. The pages that do not have verses are ruled in the margins which would make it very nice for note-taking. I will note that the lines are fairly small, maybe college-ruled. Personally, I love that, though I imagine it might be a little difficult to stay in the lines for a younger child.
There are standard NIV footnotes on each of the pages but no other study guides. In fact, other than the NIV introduction, the only other “guide” is a table of weights and measures at the end. There are no maps or concordance.
Though it is designed for girls up to age 12, I can see older teens and young adults enjoying it as well. I’m actually wondering if I want one for myself! Of course, Zondervan figured that out and has several versions of the Bible for different ages.

Remember when you were told that you shouldn’t write or mark in books? I grew up thinking that books are precious and Bibles are holy and they should never be defaced. As an adult I did begin to highlight verses in my Bible and often write notes in the margins but I still didn’t doodle randomly! Recently, however, coloring has become the craze for adults and there have been many books published that offer pictures to color. Now, there are journaling Bibles with illustrations and it is okay to write and color in our Bibles!
A new offering for young people is the NIV Beautiful Word Coloring Bible for Girls and this Bible is designed especially for girls 8 and up. It is filled with God’s Word in both text and illustrations. I especially like this New International Version because it is easy to understand and the black penned verses are gorgeous. There are several different artists who have contributed these drawings and I appreciate that their names are listed in an index in the back.
I am excited about this hardcover Bible and I recommend it for anyone who has a girl in their life. There is nothing that can rival the opportunity to learn more about God’s Word but this Bible also makes it fun! What young girl wouldn’t be proud to have this special Bible for their very own?
