I absolutely loved this book! It’s an amazing story that was well written. I highly recommend it!
I really enjoyed the world or worlds created in this novel. Dahlia is a very intriguing character who’s running from her past but still figuring out who she is decades later. It’s full of murder, politics, unique species, heroes etc. There’s some of everything. I definite recommend it.
Dahlia Nite grew up brainwashed into believing she should follow The Guild of Dragons’ orders no matter the cost. As a half dragon half human lyrriken, she was taught that she owed her existence to the elder dragons. But the night her powers of empathy awakened, her beliefs began to change. In the middle of a kill order, she hesitated to kill a child. Her insubordination sentenced her to death. But Dahlia escaped her world, sliding into a portal destined for the human realm. Now she hides in plain sight, taking jobs and protecting the humans from creatures they have no idea exist.
Very rarely do I see dragons brought into urban fantasy. But C. L. Schneider did the perfect job incorporating high fantasy elements into an urban fantasy world. The dragons weren’t just another supernatural creature. They had an entire civilization built into the story that coincided with the modern day world. And what affected one world would inevitably snowball into affecting the other.
But not only was the world-building seamless, the main character Dahlia drove the story forward with a vengeance. Dahlia is a tough as nails half dragon that refuses to back down and be forced into anything. As a result of this, the entirety of Flash Point was filled to the brim with action. And I loved the element of tension as Dahlia tried to hide the work of supernatural creatures in an ever-evolving world of technology. Not to mention the revenge driven plot that brought to light just how far the dragons will go to protect their existence. Every piece of this book was fast-paced and conflict driven. I loved every minute of it!
There is so much left to be told about this world C.L. Schneider unveiled. I can’t wait to read the next book and dive into the political schemes of the dragon world. Because there is certainly something brewing on the horizon, and Flash Point gives you just enough information to leave you wanting more.
This review is for the audio book.
I loved this book. I mainly like mysteries but if a blurb catches my eye then I will try something new and boy am I glad I did. This starts as a murder mystery, with the main character trying to track down the killer but at the same time protect the police assigned to the case from finding out the truth that she isn’t human and neither is the killer. The story develops quickly and before you know it you are looking up the blurb for book two to see who makes it to the next book, well okay I did. You are also drawn into a world where Dragons shift and take on human form and a whole new world is created in front of your eyes. I love the way the author straddles both worlds and genres beautifully but at the same time makes it believe able or at least possible.. I really liked the characters and at points I was sat on the edge of my seat as each new twist came. There was a lot of mutilated bodies, fights scenes and action but I am off to start book two.
Shape-shifting assassin Dahlia Nite, cast out by her kind for being weak and damaged is doing her part to keep the humans of her adopted world safe from monsters, by hiding in the shadows. She has connections so when a friend gets a call asking for help on a strange and brutal case, he turns to Dahlia. Posing as a fire inspector Dahlia turns up to the crime scene and the first thing she smells is not burnt flesh but dragon. Can she track down who or what is responsible and at the same time stop the police from discovering something that could rock the world, the existence of monsters. The more the bodies pile up the hard it becomes to keep her secret. Just what do all the victims have in common? As the connection become more obvious the case becomes a lot more personal for Dahlia. So much so that she might just have to return to the world she ran away from a life time ago. To stop the killer she might just have to confront her past.
I liked the narrator and thought she really helped bring the story to life with all the different voices she used.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and all opinions expressed herein are my own.
As a fan of urban fantasy and mystery books, the blurb on this book intrigued me. A strong no BS female protagonist? Check. A police procedural with interesting murders (she’s an arson investigator). Double Check. She’s a shapeshifter trying to fit in and protect humans (after being an assassin!). Wow. Yes, please. Plus her personal life is messy. Now you’re just over the top.
The character of Dalia is so well developed that you empathize with her (fear for her) as she tries to hide the truth of who she really is from her police partners. Then you understand when she engages (again) with her former lover who is absolutely wrong for her but is a habit she can’t shake because in the moment… Well, in the moment, who is really thinking clearly?? And the dialogue just crackles. And you laugh as she shows up the guys at the gym.
The backstory/world building which resulted in Dalia’s fall from grace and ending up on Earth was well drawn out and helped you understand her need to protect humans (and her current home). I enjoyed how her dragon lineage helped her investigate arson (fire breather – get it?) and helped her cover up any possible other wordly connections to the crimes.
The narrator, Cassandra King, was phenomal. She has an excitement in her voice which pulls you into the story as the action ramps up. She did different voices for the various characters, allowing the listener to easily differentiate them. There were no audio issues.
This was one wild story! It has a bit of everything in it, and anything and everything that can happen, does! This was one of the most original storylines that I’ve ever come across, and that’s saying something! For the first half of the story I was pretty exasperated with Dahlia, the blind loyalty got old pretty quick, but her evolution by the end of the book was much appreciated. Lol, it’s taken me over a week to write this review because it’s soooo hard to not give spoilers with this one! All in all, fabulous read and I can’t wait for the next one! Thank you for the opportunity to review!
This was the first book I have read by this author, and I was quite pleased with it. The world-building is intriguing; the writing is mostly tight; there are wonderful characters; and the book has a plot that left me guessing. The only thing that bothered me, and it was only a little thing, was that the book seemed a little too wordy with a little too much description. However, I admit that isn’t really my thing, but for some people it is and, of course, isn’t really a bad thing. I was engrossed the whole book, and I really was rooting for Dahlia to be able to go home again. I am really anxious to get my hands on the next book, and I think I’ve found another great author. Give this one a try; it’s really worth it! I highly recommend this book! I was provided the e-book which I voluntarily reviewed.
Flashpoint is the first of the Nite Fire Series books from C.L. Schneider. I have not had a chance to read anything from C.L. Schneider before and so this was a new foray into her worlds and I was pretty impressed. She has a knack for scene building. I often felt as if I could say I was there myself. If I almost experienced first hand the adventures that Dahlia faced along her journey. This kept me on my toes and intrigued when I was a bit dragging in the story line area. Don’t get me wrong, this is a good novel, with a strong storyline. I just had a difficult time keeping everything in order at times and felt as if it was a bit much going on for me in one book. Otherwise, I really enjoyed it and look forward to seeing what the other books bring in the series, as well as if they will be a bit more stretched out. I feel as if Schneider can take as long as she wants with this series. Its that great, I’d rather have more books spread out than complicated stuffed books.
Meanwhile in Flashpoint we meet and learn all about Dahlia Nite. She herself is a shapeshifting assassin and she is currently in a prickly situation. Hiding from people who want her dead she is in the human realm and hopping from town to town using her special skills to protect the people the way she knows how. There are murders and secrets, mysteries and monsters, magical realms and details that will be sure to haunt your thoughts long after you finish the last page. I can’t begin to tell you how dimensional this story gets. So strap in and prepare for quite the ride. I can’t wait to see what will come next in book two, Chain Reaction! Thanks so much for a great escape Ms. Schneider!
Nite Fire: Flash Point by C. L. Schneider. This is the very first Urban Fantasy book I’ve read and let me tell you I got sucked in instantly. I read the entire thing in one night because I couldn’t put it down. Its the story of Dahlia Nit who lives in the world of Drimera and works for Queen Naalish as an executioner. She soon has to flee her world for earth to save herself. She moves from town to town trying to save humans from things they can’t even see. Joining a detective trying to solve crimes she secretly protects people from her old world. She seems to be trying to redeem herself for her past. This book is full of shape shifters, dragons, & other monsters. This book is the ultimate never keep yourself from reading different types of books because you may just be surprised and love them.
This isn’t my usual go to genre but i must admit i did enjoy it i was pulled in right from the get go. The storyline keeps you on your toes with all the twists and turns along the way. It’s a fantastic fantasy novel and if like me it isn’t your usual read i recommend giving it ago it has a great paced story line with amazing character’s it has definitely opened my eyes to read more from this genre.
C.L. Schneider’s Flash Point is the first book in the Nite Fire series. This paranormal fantasy novel delves immediately into the world that of fantastical creatures and dangers that lurk within the shadows. C.L. Schneider is a creative author that strives in creating worlds that are outside of typical purview and gives the reader something that will stroke their imagination in ways they hadn’t believed possible. Dahlia’s story is filled with monsters we want to avoid and also her inner battles she’s trying to right while protecting those that she believes need it. This story immediately captured my interest and it was difficult to pull myself away from it – I just had to continue. Again, C.L. Schneider has shown they are a powerful and strong paranormal/fantasy author that is a must read.
Nite Fire Flash Point by C. L. Schneider
5-Stars
Nite Fire immediately pulled me in with Dahlia’s escape in the first chapter. I fell in love with her character as the story progressed. I loved how strong her character is. I also really enjoyed the storyline and how easy it was to get lost in. I cant wait to read more from this author.
Nite Fire: Flash Point by C.L. Schneider is the first book in the Nite Fire series. This follows the story of Dahlia Nite who has escaped execution by coming to Earth. She is a shapeshifting assassin who is redeeming herself on Earth by trying to protect the people from what lives in the shadows. This is a page-turner and kept me on the edge of my seat. The writing is well done and the characters are developed and interesting. I did not want to like Dahlia at first but could not help liking her as she was trying to help the people of Earth. This is a supernatural thriller and did not disappoint. Dahlia is not only a shapeshifter but part dragon and human. The human world and city are painted expertly then an added depth is added when we get a look at what is in the shadows. If you enjoy a good mystery I recommend this book especially if you like a supernatural twist to a story. I look forward to the next book in the series.
Nite Fire: Flash Point is the first book in the Nite Fire series. It can be read as a standalone as the main story focus is wrapped up, however there are other pieces of the story that are left open for the next book in the series.
This story starts off at a fast pace and never slows down! I was hooked from the first chapter. The author does a fantastic job of weaving a believable story and introduces interesting and complex characters in a timely manner. Nite Fire has tons of action and adventure mixed with a splash of romance. A gripping and spectacular reading adventure!
Nite Fire:Flash Point (Book 1) was a great read by C.L. Schneider. I knew by the summary I was going to be into it, but I didn’t imagine how engaged I would be from begining till end.
Schneider made a beautiful balance between reality and paranormal. I thought it was an interesting world that I was introduced to.
I loved it so much I jumped right into book 2!
Nite Fire by C.L. Schneider is the first book in her new Nite Fire series which is in the supernatural shapeshifter genre. This book has a little bit of everything in it from action to mystery and hard core suspense Schneider made sure to throw everything at her readers and let them picks the parts of the story that they liked. Following the story of Dahlia Nite, who is a shapeshifting assassin who has been slated for execution. Fleeing her fate, she goes to the human world to hid for safety. Being dedicated to protector humans, they openly provide her with shelter, she while she is here there is a creature that lurking that seeks to destroy everything that she holds dear. Going from town to town hunting for it, Dahlia must do whatever it takes to keep those she cares for safe and end the existence of this creature. What happens when all of her lies start to catch up to her? When the creatures of the night all come after those she is trying to protect will she be able to save everyone? When murders are loose in Sentinel City will she be able to stop them? The more she investigates the more secrets she uncovers. But what will she find as she goes, is there a point where what she finds could hurt more than help? Schneider is a new to me author, and I am so happy I picked this book up. It is definitely out of my usual wheelhouse of reading but her writing style pulled me in from page one and didn’t let go until the end. Her characters were well written and the storyline kept me on the edge of my seat. I can’t wait to see where this series goes next.
This audio book had a great narrator. She had a way of bringing you into the story. I really enjoyed this book.
Murders are piling up and are starting to gain a focus. Dahlia is the main character and has a sarcastic attitude and takes no crap from anyone. I love that no nonsense attitude in the main character. She is able to feel the ghosts of the dead as well as the trauma of the living. She is trying to crack the case of who is doing these murders. She knows it is one of her kind. She is supposed to be making sure the human police do not find out about her species. The story takes on so many twists and turns you are not left bored at any time. I would recommend this audio book to anyone who loves the paranormal mixed with a suspenseful murder mystery.
A well written story filled with well written characters that will grab your attention and keep it throughout the entire story. The narrator did a fantastic job bringing this book to life and kept my attention.
I received an ARC of this audiobook and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
I expected this book to be another okay paranormal action book, like many others. What I got was so much better. This is a paranormal thriller-horror novel, in the style of Laurel K Hamilton’s Anita Blake novels and Jim Butchers Dresden files. It’s dark, gritty and underlying fascinating. It’s an page turner where you both can’t stop reading, and at the same time you are afraid to read on. It’s brilliantly written, with deeply developed characters, and a female antagonist who are changed by the things she experiences. For a while, it will have you looking at shadows wondering if something are hiding in them, and if the world are what we think it is, or something more.
The narrator of the Audio version is fantastic. It can’t have been easy to preform this book but Cassandra King does it anyway, and brilliantly.
The book can be read as a stand alone, even though it’s part of a series, but I think that once you get started, you are going to want to read/listen to the others as well. This is a book suitable for the ages 18+
This is the first book in the Nite Fire series. It started out kind of slow but keep up with it, I promise it is worth it.
Dahliah Nite, a supernautal crime scene cleaner, empathic shapeshifter, fire throwing dragon hybrid; half human half dragon; as known as a Lyrriken. She is exiled from her world, it had been 97 years since she made her escape. She is hiding, or at she is trying to hide. Coming back to the small town even though she had lived there previously can be risky. She is recognized by one human, he believes her to be a vampire and she hasn’t done anything to deter his thinking, the less he knows the better. But when she is put on a case involving fire she knows it was Lyrikken involved, but she doesn’t know why and why so many lives. But saving Evans after he accidentally stumbled into another world. She has to save him but just how much of the truth can she tell him, he already had suspensions. The book is a really good read it does take time, it is a rollercoaster but I can’t wait to read book 2 to see how the story continues. And what happens with Dahliah and Evans.
