Jodi Picoult, bestselling author of My Sister’s Keeper and Small Great Things pens her most riveting book yet, with a startling and poignant story about the devastating aftermath of a small-town tragedy. Sterling is an ordinary New Hampshire town where nothing ever happens–until the day its complacency is shattered by a school shooting. Josie Cormier, the daughter of the judge sitting on the … daughter of the judge sitting on the case, should be the state’s best witness, but she can’t remember what happened before her very own eyes–or can she? As the trial progresses, fault lines between the high school and the adult community begin to show–destroying the closest of friendships and families. Nineteen Minutes asks what it means to be different in our society, who has the right to judge someone else, and whether anyone is ever really who they seem to be.

This book had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I had no idea what was going to happen next. I absolutely love Jodi’s writing style. This was an emotional rollercoaster for me. I’m glad my friend recommended it to me.
This is an oldie but goodie. Nineteen Minutes is about a small town that never really had history of bad events until one day, an act of violence hits the high school. As you read further into this book, you see things unfold in way you didn’t expect it to. Suspenseful and intriguing. This book is a must read.
it it amazing the end will have you like what???
I love Jodi Picoult. There is always a twist at the end of her books that gives you something else to think about. Just when you think you’ve figured it out you realize you didn’t figure it out at all.
A lot can happen in just nineteen minutes. This profound story dwells on bullying and how it can affect the people involved. A school shooting that devastates a small town. Not only do you have the bullying going on you also have a young woman who feels she must ditch the one close friend she has because he does not fit in just so she can fit in …
Thousands of children and families and communities are effected by school shootings, this story lets you inside their minds and lives.
Jodi’s best book yet. It is about a school shooting and you get to see both sides of the story. The victim’s parents and the shooters. I highly recommend it. Ms Picoult’s research in all of her books is first rate and this is no exception.
I used to lump Ms. Picoult into the general “chick-lit” category and I had very little interest in reading her books. I ended up giving her a try and liked the book, then was disappointed with the second novel that I read. That trend continued for a while, like one, hate one, like one, hate one. Now I think I might have read two of hers and liked …
Best friends Alex Cormier, a judge and Lacy Houghton, a midwife, meet when their children Josie Cormier and Peter Houghton are young. Both children deal in different ways to try to fit in with the popular crowd that dominates school social life, while both mothers are more or less oblivious to their children’s emotional struggles.
Picoult’s …
I love all books by this author. This was one of the first books of hers I read
The novel was about a school shooting from the perspective of the teen shooter instead of the victims.
It’s been years since I’ve read this book but it has stayed with me in haunting clarity. What an incredible “reveal” of the lasting effects of bullying and how a compassionate choice can have such devastating repercussions.
Made me see school shootings from the other side. It was uncomfortable and eye opening. Taught me there is always more than one side and it is important to look for it. It also taught me to be less judgmental.
I am a huge reader so people often ask me for recommendations. Nineteen Minutes is in my TOP 5 books that everyone should read especially if you are a teacher, parent or student (high school and up). It is a book that has always stayed with me.
NINETEEN MINUTES is the novel that cemented the reputation of author Jodi Picoult, becoming her first book to debut at #1 on the New York Times Best Seller list. As everyone knows, NINETEEN MINUTES is about a school shooting, in which 17-year-old Peter Houghton opens fire on his classmates, killing ten, injuring nineteen.
But what makes this book …
Loved it the book. I read all of her books as soon as they come out
Jodi Picoult is one of my favorite authors.
Another view from the real side
This book was hard to stomach. School shooting with teenage children is not something I want to read about as it gives me nightmares. However, it is real and the author presents the fears and dilemmas well. If you like a book which has drama, hardship and thrilling action this is for you, unfortunately it wasn’t my cup of tea.
This was a hard book to read because of the topic but it was very well written. I enjoyed seeing the incident from multiple points of view. The ending was not what I expected. I also appreciated the author giving us a glimpse forward to let us know how some of the characters moved on with life.
