A wonderfully talented new author joins the Avon Romance family — Sarah MacLean, who fans of Eloisa James and Julia Quinn will immediately take into their hearts! Sarah’s delectable debut, Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake, is the Regency Era romp readers have been waiting for — fresh, fun, and wonderfully romantic — placing her solidly in the company of Elizabeth Hoyt, Sophie Jordan, and … Jordan, and others of the new generation of exciting up-and-comers.

MacLean doesn’t disappoint when a consummate wallflower decides to stop worrying about her reputation and “live dangerously.” Especially when her first daring escapade lands her in the arms of the most notorious rake in Britain…and a marquess, no less!
Perhaps my favorite of all of Sarah MacLean’s books and that’s saying something because she is one of my all-time favorite historical romance authors.
This book was magnificent – toe-curling romance, tearful sighs, laugh-out-loud moments, and a swoon-worthy hero. I truly felt touched by this story. The heroine is so real and vulnerable that I could relate to her. There are numerous steamy scenes for mature readers. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
Charming And Funny, I’m So Proud of This Heroine!
Calpurnia had many reasons to feel depressed and bitter, but she never wallowed in self-pity or envy. Instead, she accepted her situation with dignity – until she finally decided to radically take charge of her life. Then the fun starts because that decision puts her in Ralston’s path. Now the …
This is hands-down my favorite historical romance of all time. I wish there were an extended epilogue because just seeing them in the other books wasn’t enough!
Just read Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean from 2010 that I somehow missed and I loved it. Heroine was a dissatisfied on-the-shelf wallflower until she overheard a description of herself and decides to take chances and live! At times heartbreaking and heartwarming, I really enjoyed Callie’s journey to her HEA.

I’m a huge Sarah MacLean fan but hadn’t read her debut until now — even though it’s earlier work, it’s definitely just as smart, funny, romantic and delightful as all her later books! A heroine who knows what she wants but is also in a wee bit over her head, a rakish hero who’s irresistibly drawn to her, and a three-dimensional cast of characters …
This book has a good storyline and wonderful characters. There were humorous situations and poignant moments. Although it was somewhat predictable, it unfolded nicely. It’s well-written and an overall enjoyable read.
I found the sex scenes a bit much for my taste: They seemed drawn out. I’d prefer a little less of the mechanics and more of the …
Incredibly sexy historical romance with a great grovel scene by the hero.
What a delightful read! Unique story line, great characters and plenty of humor as well.
A spinster, her adventurous list, and a rake…
Calpurnia and Gabriel’s romance was a fun-filled romp! Calpurnia’s self-esteem issues could bog scenes down at times, but her overall sense of self-discovery made up for the lag. I also liked that Gabriel wasn’t a hardened hero. I did enjoy his emotional aloofness being put to the mettle when faced …
Sarah MacLean always entertains. This one was the beginning of a series but stands alone just fine. Nice explanation of action, steamy scenes can be skipped if desired and story line is not adversely impacted. Love the characters.
Callie – can’t everyone relate to her? Who doesn’t want to rebel and want the man you have secretly loved for years, to look at you and finally notice the real you?
Sarah MacLean is my favorite historical romance fix and this entire series is fun, flirty, smart, and hits all my favorite romance buttons. <3
I enjoyed this book so much!
Mostly because I’m in the mood for historical goodness and I’m so used of reading Julia Quinn’s style of historical romance that’s why when I read this book, I feel like being in love all over again.
But the thing is, this book is not the first Sarah MacLean’s book that I read yet.. Why? Why I feel like this book is …
