Now a Hulu original series
“If three characters were good in Big Little Lies, nine are even better in Nine Perfect Strangers.” —Lisa Scottoline, The New York Times Book Review
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Big Little Lies
Could ten days at a health resort really change you forever? In Liane Moriarty’s latest page-turner, nine perfect strangers are about to find out…
Nine people gather at a remote health resort. Some are here to lose weight, some are here to get a reboot on life, some are here for reasons they can’t even admit to themselves. Amidst all of the luxury and pampering, the mindfulness and meditation, they know these ten days might involve some real work. But none of them could imagine just how challenging the next ten days are going to be.
Frances Welty, the formerly best-selling romantic novelist, arrives at Tranquillum House nursing a bad back, a broken heart, and an exquisitely painful paper cut. She’s immediately intrigued by her fellow guests. Most of them don’t look to be in need of a health resort at all. But the person that intrigues her most is the strange and charismatic owner/director of Tranquillum House. Could this person really have the answers Frances didn’t even know she was seeking? Should Frances put aside her doubts and immerse herself in everything Tranquillum House has to offer – or should she run while she still can?
It’s not long before every guest at Tranquillum House is asking exactly the same question.
Combining all of the hallmarks that have made her writing a go-to for anyone looking for wickedly smart, page-turning fiction that will make you laugh and gasp, Liane Moriarty’s Nine Perfect Strangers once again shows why she is a master of her craft.

I have read almost all of Liane Moriarty’s books. She writes her characters with such beauty. Her stories are already engaging and make it hard to put her books down once you start them. Nine Perfect Strangers is no exception. Well written and entertaining.
Liane Moriaty’s latest release, Nine Perfect Strangers has already been picked up for production with Nicole Kidman playing the lead. This book is set at an unorthodox health retreat where characters indulge in intermittent fasting, micro-dosing and noble silence. Our Walking Book Club members found the narration a bit slow, but if you choose to listen, try 1.5x normal speed. The Walking Book Club ratings:
Motivation to Move: 4.6 Sneakers
Narration: 4.4 Sneakers
Overall Experience: 4.6 Sneakers
Another great Liane Moriarty book. Amusing and unpredictable as always, with true-to-life, original characters. Her writing just gets better and better, with story lines that never fail to entertain, make you think, make you laugh.
This story is very entertaining.
Would you believe this is the first Liane Moriarty I had read?
This is a clever and highly entertaining read. As you might guess from the title, there are nine characters – people who check in to a health resort in the Australian bush – and you can follow their weaving stories throughout the novel.
The individual backstories are lively enough themselves, but when these nine come together at the resort and face – shall we say – a dramatic hurdle, that’s when the story becomes a page-turner. I truly had no idea what might happen next.
The style ranges from suspenseful, to romantic, to sad, to humorous. It’s an amazing feat to pull off. There were storylines that were so impactful that I thought about them many hours afterwards. But throughout, a thread of drama + fun kept me reading. Highly recommended.
This is a most unusual book. The characters are all seeking to retreat from their everyday lives and “remake” themselves. What is in store for each of them is not what they expected.
Wow, wow, wow! Could not put this book down! Lost a lot of sleep because I had to know what was going to happen on the next page.
People with angst come together for more weirdness in their lives.
Not Her best book, but it was entertaining.
Disappointing after previous reads of this author.
Interesting premise and started off well, but veered off oddly. I can’t recommend it.
This one threw me for a bit of a loop. I have read Liane Moriarty before with The Husband’s Secret and Big Little Lies. This one was different. Good, it was good, but it took a little longer to get into the story. As always, though, her characters are rich. I, too, wrote a book about a series of strangers (just seven in my case) who come together for a common event and leave with their lives connected more than they realized possible. That is what drew me to pick up this book. Liane’s book is dramatically different than mine, but I love how she paints nine unique people who bond over a common experience.
What started off like slow, winding country road turned into a bombastic page turner
Didn’t love it. It was Ok. Fast read. Only some of the characters were interesting. The spa owner irritated me as well as her helper,
I liked this book until a situation occurred that went on and on. Up to that point the characters were interesting. Then the story took on an unbelievable aspect I thought.
A good time with a few surprising twists and turns. Enjoyed the characters and setting.
Best book I’ve read in a few years. The characters are so beautifully developed and wonderfully interesting. So good!
Classic Liane Moriarty book.
I haven’t read a Liane Moriarty that I haven’t liked and this one was no different. I even felt compassion for the “villan” at the end of the book. That’s good story telling! The characters have depth so the reader is able to relate to each. Carmen took a little too long before entering the show that I had forgotten she was there but it was a minor flaw. I do recommend this one to all Liane fans.
Love the author but just had a very hard time getting into this book
