Being a new member of the undead sect has its ups and downs, something that newly embraced Akio Lee is finding out first hand. Being able to spend eternity with his beloved Vincente, the man who introduced him to life in the nightside, is a definite up. Having to feed on strangers? That’s one of the downsides, and something that Akio is finding difficult to swallow. But what other option is there … there for a recently wed vampire couple who need blood to survive?
Finding a new donor perhaps? One who comes into the lifestyle willingly, as Akio had done, and is open to the unique and sensual relationship that develops when three men have a blood bond. A man who can exist in both the nightside and the dayside worlds. A man like Ian O’Keeffe, the handsome caretaker of the manse Akio and Vincente now call home? Ian seems to tick every box Akio and Vincente have—he’s comfortable around vampires, he’s obviously into men, he’s drop-dead gorgeous, he’s more than a little mischievous, and he’s human. Mostly.
But will the outgoing handyman be willing to offer two vampires his vein, his body, and his heart?

An interesting story.
Nightside is part of the Erie series and contains characters that appeared in An Erie Collection. I haven’t yet read An Erie Collection (but now I really want to) and I still enjoyed reading Nightside. I think I probably would have enjoyed Nightside a bit more if I’d read An Erie Collection first but I didn’t really feel lost reading it on its own.
Nightside is full of all different kinds of magical creatures but focuses primarily on Akio and Vincente, a vampire couple. Akio is recently embraced (newly turned) vampire and is still finding his footing and trying to control the new things he can do. His husband, Vincente, was embraced many years ago and he’s trying to help Akio come to terms with things he finds distasteful – like feeding on humans.
I’ve read quite a few vampire books and V.L. Locey has placed a different spin on things from others I’ve read. I really like the way she has integrated so many different types of magical creatures into one world and has them learning to exist with each other.
While Akio and Vincente are very happy as a couple, there’s something about Ian O’Keeffe that calls to both of them. Once these three finally get together things really heat up! I enjoyed the underlying mystery in the book, and the confrontation that ensued, but things in that part of the story wrapped up a bit too quickly for me. I would like to have found out more about the things in the attic.
In spite of that one minor detail, I thoroughly enjoyed the love story and the variety of characters in the book. Now I must definitely read An Erie Collection!
A copy of this book was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

Forever and a day
I was hoping we’d get to see more of Akio. I liked hearing about the adjustments and downsides of being a vampire from him. Vincente kinda is a drama queen, but I still love him and how blunt he is. Ah Templeton, I missed your smelly cuteness. I’m so glad they found Ian. He’s a wonderful counterpoint to Akio and Vincente and fits in seamlessly with them. Also he’s very stubborn but charming.
“The heart has a great capacity to love.” Who knew whiskey and vampires don’t mix? Ah, if only I could be in the house with Ian, Akio and Vincente, mmmm. I so enjoy the way they tease each other. Their new house may be beautiful but it hides some nasty secrets. I loved the chilling twists and surprises in this book as well as learning more about Vincente’s past. A wonderful paranormal tale filled with unique shifters, vampires and other magical beings that captured me from the very beginning.
was an absolute delight to read.
The best thing was the way the story maintained a humorous tone from beginning to end, even in some of the more serious situations. Starting with Akio’s hilarious description of vampire life, then the move to the new house, meeting Ian,and so on… keeping me snickering all through the book.
All the characters are captivating and well written, main and secondary ones alike. I adore Akio,Vincente and Ian. So unique, each with different quirks and personalities, but so amazing together. I loved watching their relationship form, the sweetness of their way with each other. And then,to see them bond and become everlasting, immutable.
This book is complete: there’s romance, mystery, hotness, danger, cuteness and so much fun.
VL Locey,you’re brilliant!
