I just finished Night’s Reckoning by Elizabeth Hunter, and Wow.
Riveting, romantic, surprising—Night’s Reckoning gripped me from the first and released its hold only with the final, thrilling page. Elizabeth Hunter draws us into another wild ride with Ben and Tenzin. And complicated lives they are. Their quest — to find the sword of Night’s Reckoning buried beneath the sea for a millennia. At least they hope it’s there. Nothing is certain in this beautifully written tale that takes us from Rome to the shores of Singapore and to the mysterious island of Penglai, where the court of immortal vampires rule. We meet old friends, too—Geo and Bea, Chloe and Gavin, and many more. Night’s Reckoning is everything you’ve come to expect from Elizabeth Hunter, and more. The book pulses with deep complicated characters, a plot filled with adventure, and romantic tension to the max, not to mention a climax that steals the breath. I need more Ben and Tenzin!
My heart aches. I have been gutted. Tears flowed. Ben and Tenzin have been part of my escape from the world for such a long time. Yesterday they took over my world. Every interruption had me frustrated. Putting the book away was not an option.
The author grabbed my heart, my mind and wouldn’t let go. I thought it was a second chance romance. I was wrong. I thought it would be a fun, easy treasure hunt. I was wrong. I thought it would be a happily ever after. I have never been more wrong.
NIght’s Reckoning had me reading page after page in hopes of romance. Night’s Reckoning had me diving into the pages joining the treasure hunters in search for a shipwreck. Night’s Reckoning was the final step in a rocky peace between to ancient vampires. What could go wrong? EVERYTHING!!!!
After Puerto Rico, Ben and Tenzin had gone their separate ways. Their relationship was complicated. The separation was difficult. The reunion was tense. The reunion was explosive. I still had hope after all it is was Ben and Tenzin. He is young and inexperienced. She is ancient and experienced in too much. Will they finally succumb to love?
The diving expedition is unique. Humans excavating during the day. Vampires pillaging at night. Thousands of years deep on the ocean floor, buried in coral have left doubt that they will reach their goal. Laylat al Hisab–the Night’s Reckoning is a symbol of peace, the final step in a lasting peace or Ben’s life as he knows it.
My imagination is working overtime. Where do things go from here? Night’s Reckoning will be read again and again searching for clues, excavating the pages, devouring the story as I clutch tissues. I am ready for more.
Elizabeth Hunter is a master storyteller. This book pulled me in at the first word and didn’t let go even after it was over. Each Elementary Legacy book reunites you with old friends and introduces you to new ones. The main character’s story ark does not disappoint but will leave you holding your breath, wiping away tears, and eager for the next chapter in their story.
It’s Elizabeth Hunter. Duh. This book is EPIC.
This book will blow your socks off. But the end… Oh, the ramifications, the possibilities, the curiosity!
Night’s reckoning is absolutely brilliant, wonderful, captivating, engrossing, heartbreaking perfection. There is so much much emotion! If you’ve followed Ben and Tenzin on any of their journey, this is a must read. If you haven’t read any of the series then start right now. One would think with how old Tenzin is, there would not be a lot of self discovery. However there is so much growth from her considering how she has always been. Ben is amazing and always learning. I can’t say much without spoilers, but this is a must read for everyone! Elizabeth Hunter is an amazing writer, what she creates with that amazing mind of hers combined with real history and incredibly thorough research is pure magic. Reading any of her books is the perfect, educational, emotional, and adventurous escape. Night’s Reckoning is that times a thousand! Sorry for the adjective overuse, but there is no better way to describe her writing and this book. Read it now!
Where do I even begin? I don’t think that love is strong enough for how I felt about this book. I listened to the music playlist several times before the book came out and it touched my soul. When I finally had the book, all the songs mixed with all the words and my little black heart could hardly take the experience. This whole Elemental world that the author has created has given me many sleepless nights where I can’t stop reading. This book was no different. Fans of the series will enjoy this new story and of course will leave you wanting more in a good way. Is there ever enough of your favorite books?
This was easy to read, due to the fact that when Elizabeth Hunter puts pen to paper, the words just flow to build a powerfully passionate story. This was hard to read, because it was full of so much emotion and it made me cry in a couple of spots.
I was blown away by the depth of heart felt emotions that were put into this book. It starts off with Ben and finishes with Tenzin, both in a strange emotional state. Tenzin was confused about her feelings, Ben not so much, but he came to a realization.
There is not much I can say about this book without having spoilers, therefore, I will say that if you have been following Ben and Tenzin’s story, this is a must read. You will be taken on a ride of emotions worse than a rollercoaster. I can only imagine why this was so hard to write, but as a reader, it was hard to read with everything that was going on. I loved this book.
Well, here I am with the next adventure of one of my favorite couples who do not think they are a couple. These characters have grown so much since they were first introduced into the series. While one is a vampire who has lived a very long life, she has managed to make strides in how she interacts with humans. The human side of the duo has literally grown since he was a child when brought into the world that he inhabits and has continued to evolve as he has grown to adulthood.
The legendary Laylat al Hisab also known as the Night’s Reckoning has been lost in the East China Sea for thousands of years. It was created as a peace offering from Arosh to Zhang which has managed to elude treasure hunters both human and immortal all this time.
When Tenzin’s sire hears that a ninth-century shipwreck has been located which is the possible holder of Night’s Reckoning he realizes that he will need help if he hopes to recover it. Though Ben and Tenzin are on opposite sides of the world, Tenzin knows that she will need his help. Gaining his cooperation is not going to be easy since Ben has said that he wants a break because Tenzin once again ran away. Ben has avoided the dark places lately and Tenzin is going to drag him back in.
The banter between the characters whether it is serious or lighthearted is always a fun thing for me. There are a few instances of names being mixed up and confusing who is talking or who is being spoken to. Overall though this is another great entry and I know the next one will be just as good or better.
Oh my, oh my! I often wondered if, how, when Ben’s life would change! Did not see the reality coming. So very much looking forward to the next Tenzin & Ben novel. The narrator did a fantastic job!
I have loved this series starting with Giovanni and Beatrice. I really look forward to the new books coming out in this series. Ben and Tenzin are special in so many ways. Night’s Reckoning was a page turner, and a real turning point for readers of this couple and this world. I will do my best to patiently wait for the next one, I know it won’t disappoint! thank you Elizabeth Hunter.
I’ve never read an Elizabeth Hunter book that I didn’t love!!
I have been a fan of Elizabeth Hunter, since I first read ‘A Hidden Fire!’ The worlds she creates are phenomenal. The characters are so wonderfully written… and the storylines are incredible.
‘Night’s Reckoning,’ was no exception! It was bloody brilliantly! It was emotionally raw and heartbreaking. I was unable to put this book down. From start to finish, you are utterly drawn to the characters and their turmoil… I absolutely loved it! I have always been captivated by the unique and adventurous relationship between Benjamin Vecchio and Tenzin. Watching Benjamin grow and mature from a quick, clever, street-smart boy to an intelligent, honorable, and passionate young man. Seeing the ever changing dynamics of their relationship. I just can’t praise this book enough.
I am a huge fan of Elizabeth Hunter’s Elemental Mysteries and Elemental Legacy books. Ben and Tenzin have always had a solid spot at the top of my favorite characters from these series’ list (along with B and Gio and Carwyn). Each book provides an emotional journey and Night’s Reckoning takes the reader on an epic wave of feelings. I cried during a certain extremely stressful and emotional scene upon realization the path to this event was not paved the way I expected.
Night’s Reckoning is another fantastic book by Elizabeth Hunter. The book was exciting, frustrating, and awesome. I was engaged in the book from the very beginning. I have been excited to read the book for a few weeks when the cover and book teasers were revealed.
This novel continues the world building, character introduction & development, and back story (as deemed necessary) for the Elemental Mysteries/Legacy novels. All of Elizabeth’s novels reach deep within my emotional center and manage to trigger reactionary responses. These types of books are my favorite. The emotions don’t have to always include tears; it is just the ability to invoke proper emotional responses to scenarios being played out.
Everything about Night’s Reckoning is fantastic. The novel is interesting and draws the reader in from the start. The writing is fluid and cohesive, never becoming wordy or confusing. The pacing of the story is excellent and isn’t too fast, slow, or boring. The main and supporting characters are well written, developed at the proper speeds, and likable.
I highly recommend anything and everything from Elizabeth Hunter.
I was provided a copy of this book to read.
I had been looking forward to this book for so long, it was a little bittersweet to find out how Tenzin and Ben’s story would go. I appreciate the direction it took and enjoyed her dedication to keeping true to the characters. Although, now I will be terribly, impatiently waiting until Spring 2020 for the followup! tory for two of my favorites in this world. Elizabeth Hunter consistently builds memorable, complex characters.
Wow! I love all of Elizabeth’s writing. Her unique brand of storytelling is hard to top. I love how the characters are interwoven from the beginning when we first started in this world. Ben and Tenzin have always had a special relationship and I enjoyed watching it continue to evolve in this book. Full of emotion, action, mystery and intrigue! Can’t wait for more!
I am a big fan of the Elemental Legacy series probably because Ben and Tenzin are my favorite characters. They are intense, complicated and wonderful. With every book Elizabeth writes about them she finds new depths and facets within and between these two. And this is the book that everyone who is a fan has both been waiting for and dreading. But the book was so so much more. Adventure, betrayal, love, excitement, heartbreak and mystery! Night’s Reckoning was an incredible emotional roller-coaster that was everything I both wanted and feared but given to me in an entirely unexpected way. Every time I think that Elizabeth cannot write a better book than she has previously written she does in the most wonderful way.
A long time in coming
This is the book that fans of Tenzin and Ben have been waiting for, and it changes everything. It is the sixth book and the third full length novel in the series. The Elemental Legacy series started with Shadows and Gold, although both Ben and Tenzin have appeared as supporting characters in the Elemental Mysteries (and Elemental World) series from early on. In a way it is a (reverse) age-gap story, because when Tenzin and Ben meet, he is still a teenager and Tenzin is his adoptive father’s fascinating vampire assassin friend, millennia old, but forever frozen in the body of a young woman.
Tenzin then becomes sort of a mentor for Ben, helping him to learn how to fight and how to hold his own against vampires. Later on they also become roommates, sharing an apartment in New York. They are also business partners, specializing in the finding and recovery of ancient treasures and (in-)famous artifacts, mostly for vampire clients. So, each of the preceding novellas and novels is centered around one specific treasure hunt, where Tenzin often gets Ben into dicey situations. Even though they didn’t have a romantic relationship as such, there has always been something there, as evidenced by their sizzling dance in Venice or Tenzin’s predilection of invading his privacy and watch him sleep. So, even if Ben has always been adamant that he doesn’t want to be turned, it at times appeared that Tenzin has been grooming him, not only by teaching him how to fight, but also how to navigate vampire politics.
That is where we stand at the beginning of this installment. Although Tenzin has been taking a time-out from her relationship with Ben after their rather intense encounter during their Puerto Rican adventure, it starts out along the same lines as previous books: Tenzin trying to get Ben to help her in another treasure hunt, only this time around the client is her vampire sire. Though Ben is reluctant at first, he has never been able to resist an exciting adventure as this one is promising to be. What I feel has mostly changed over the last few installments, is the tone as their relationship keeps changing and they become more aware of each other in a romantic sense. The first few books were entertaining, funny and mostly light-hearted, but recently the tone has become more ominous and the intensity has been ratcheted up. So, what starts out as an involved, but otherwise straight-forward under-water archeological dig and recovery soon turns complicated when vampire politics intrude on it as there are other parties interested in the treasure. Unfortunately Ben gets in the cross-hairs of those opposing factions and subsequent events change his and Tenzin’s relationships forever in ways that will blow your mind… if you want to find out how, grab the book and prepare reading it in one sitting, as you will not be able to put it down!
