From the authors:
Epic adventure, arcane magic, monsters, heroes, talking cats, and we’re just getting started.
My best friend Carol and I have roamed the OF CATS AND DRAGONS world for over three decades, creating our stories in the telling — from our high school Dungeons & Dragons games to a database where we gathered over three hundred stories and story fragments. But now we are ready to share what we’ve conjured up.
It wasn’t easy, sorting through generations of characters, plots long and short, episodes half-forgotten and threads of tales never completed. From the moment Carol and I decided to write that first OF CATS AND DRAGONS novel, it took nearly a year of combing through storylines, weighing character arcs, before we arrived at a starting point.
Other decisions had to be made as well. While our stories range from grimdark to slapstick, we had to pick one path. Ultimately we had to go with what the core really was — heroic fantasy with a touch of whimsy. GOT without the naughty bits
And while we had literally dozens of possible protagonists to choose from, we agreed that Omen and Tormy were at the center of our fantastical universe.
And from where should we launch the tale of their beautiful friendship? After a couple of false starts and at least another year of trying to figure it out, we decided to begin — at the beginning.
NIGHT’S GIFT is the pilot to our new series, one we hope to renew book after book for as long as we can still put word to page.
We hope you enjoy our tale.

Night’s Gift is a must read for any fantasy lover. It has magic and mayhem, good and evil, great characters and wondrous environments.
It has dragons and sea monsters, elves and too many creatures to list here. Did I mention it has cats? It has cats! No spoilers, but you’ll fall in love with these cats even if you’re a dog lover.
This is simply a wonderful fantasy novel. And as a special treat, you can continue reading into the series if you want. Book two takes you on a new adventure. All of the subsequent books are all wonderful tales!
If you’re a fantasy lover then you’ll love these books!
To be perfectly honest, I was not liking this book at all and came close to giving up on it a number of times. Way too much misery and danger and a hopelessness feel to it. Also wondering where was the cat of Cats & Dragons? Not a mention of the cat until I was 61% of the way through the book. And at this point it became worth the effort of getting to this part of the book. Things definitely took a turn for the better with the arrival of the cat! Stick with it if you are tempted to drop it…
Absolute fun! My only complaint was that Tormy wasn’t introduced sooner! My warning to the reader: don’t pick it up unless you have time to read at least a chapter! Omen has difficulties controlling his psionics (kind of a cross between telepathy and magic), he feels it makes him a monster because it’s not safe for him to be out among regular (non-magic) people. His family is visiting the city of Hex. He slips away from the castle, intent of meeting some new people, singing some songs, and enjoying new foods. Little did he know that instead a pickpocket would steal the charm that keeps his psionics in control and he would be sent hurtling through an adventure with Templar, prince of Heth, as they seek to redeem his charm. It’s one of those fun, if you want me to do this for you, then you need to this for me stories, filled with twists and turns, magic and mayhem, and nothing is predictable! I loved it and will definitely be reading more!
I think it’s probably me but until the cat showed up I had a hard time figuring what was going on & why it’s called “Of Cats & Dragons”. The cat really made my laugh. The whole story line is very strange: character names, what happens, fights, etc. I hope there is a dragon in future books because I really like dragon stories. I will read the next few books to find out what else happens. I received a free book through Bookfunell. This is my voluntary opinion.
The first book in the Of Cats and Dragons trilogy made me a fan from the first page.
The heroes, two adolescent boys forced to spend time together, are not happy.
Omen, the younger of the two, is visiting the city of Hex in the land of Terizkand. Omen is eager to take in the sights and taste the food of this new place. But the loss of Omen’s precious bracelet, and his near-catastrophic efforts to retrieve it, bring Omen face to face with Prince Templar, son of the ruler of Terizkand.
The prince, under orders to follow Omen and keep him safe, enters the scene furious with his charge. As Templar and Omen seek to retrieve Omen’s bracelet, their search leads them into dark, dangerous places filled with all kinds of terrifying creatures.
A coming-of-age quest filled with adventure and peril, the heroes both learn how to better use their own powers and begin to appreciate each other’s strengths. When Tormy, a 30-pound kitten, appears, the threesome is complete, and the journey becomes wilder than ever.
Camilla Ochlan and Carol E. Leever offer an adventure filled with creatures and demons only mighty imaginations could create. The story of Omen and Templar also gives the reader a subtle lesson in differences and how even the most annoying traits can sometimes be useful.
This is a fun series, so if you are in the mood for some light amusing reading & like cats here you go. I love deep in depth books but after a couple of them the I need some lighthearted reading. This one was good!
Move over Potter. Stand aside Aslan. There are new heroes in town and they’ve got a giant talking cat! Enchanting, mysterious and snarfingly funny! Night’s Gift (Book 1 Of Cats and Dragons) is an action-packed epic fantasy that will delight the entire family!
I bought this on a whim, wanting something fun and light to read. The characters are engaging, and you fall in love with all of them (especially Tormy) in the first book. When I finished this book I went to Amazon and bought everything else in the series.
It is sword and sorcery, humor, growing up, and a world that is both fascinating and terrifying. Take a leap into this book, you won’t regret it.
