On a planet with six suns, night is about to fall for the first time in two thousand years . . . The planet Kalgash is on the brink of chaos—but only a handful of people realize it. Kalgash knows only the perpetual light of day; for more than two millennia, some combination of its six suns has lit up the sky. But twilight is now gathering. Soon the suns will set all at one—and the terrifying … the terrifying splendor of Nightfall will call forth a madness that signals the end of civilization
Isaac Asimov’s short story “Nightfall” first appeared in 1941. It has since become recognized as a classic, its author a legend. But the short story isn’t the whole story. Now, Dr. Asimov has teamed with multiple Hugo and Nebula Award winner Robert Silverberg to explore and expand one of the most awe-inspiring concepts in the history of science fiction.
In this novel, you will witness Nightfall—and much more.
You will learn what happens at Daybreak.

This is a full-length novel based on an excellent short story written early in the career of Isaac Asimov, who is listed as one of the novel’s authors. The premise is that a world circles six suns, so that there are nearly always two or more in the sky. Very rarely is only one visible, which makes the sky darker than usual. That single sun is …
I enjoyed this book.
Great classic novel
Very disappointing
An interesting tale of the various ways in which people confront fear and uncertainty.
Asimov and Silverberg nothing else needs said
Superb science fiction. One of my all time favorites.
A most unique end of the world story. Although what happens after “night falls” has echoes of so many end of our world stories it doesn’t necessarily enhance the story of what leads up to the end of this world.
The story that leads up to the end of the world does an amazing job of tying together archaeological, astronomical and theological …
Have you ever wondered what your life would be like if something that you had experienced every day of your life was suddenly gone? Some people could adapt to the change while others would not be able to endure it. On a world with five suns it was never completely dark, until something dramatically changed. How would society react to a truly dark …
Not Asimov’s greatest work, by a long shot. Very interesting premise, but the characters are a bit (OK, more than a bit) wooden, and the ending very unsatisfactory. The original short story is a classic. They should have left it at that.
A wonderful full length novel of Asimov’s short story by the same name.
Read as a short story many years ago, enjoy his work
Nightfall’s one was of the best Sci Fi stories ever written. Robert Silverburg did a great job expanding it into a full length novel.
Good start, not so good finish.
Not his best work for sure.
If you like Asimov, you will love this. The original short story made you think. This fleshes out the possible reactions and the science behind it. It is timely because it makes you ask, “Why do people cling to beliefs that are not supported by facts? Why do they reject facts that challenge their beliefs?”
I always enjoy Asimove. Great reading for the science fiction fan.
The original short story by Isaac Azimov is superior in every way – craftmanship, pace, and impact.
You just can’t beat Asimov.
Two of the Masters of SciFi came up with a most unusual and fascinating story of a world that “never” had full night time (due to multiple moons), except one person suspected a historic cycle, and predicted chaos… Sometime predictable, with some great twists. Definitely a good read.
