From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Douglas comes the thrilling, final installment in the Devil’s Night series…
Will Grayson has always been an animal, though. Reckless, wild, and someone who was never bound by a single rule other than to do exactly what he wanted. There was no way his grandfather was going risk him humiliating the family again.
Not that the last time was entirely his fault. He might’ve enjoyed backing me into corners in high school when no one was looking, so they wouldn’t catch on that Mr. Popular actually wanted a piece of that quiet, little nerd he loved to torture so much, but…
He could also be warm. And fierce in keeping me safe.
The truth is… He has a right to hate me.
It’s all my fault. Everything.
Devils Night. The videos. The arrests.
I’m to blame for all of it.
And I regret nothing.
WILL
I never minded being locked up. I learned a long time ago that being treated like an animal gives you permission to act like one. No one has ever looked at me any other way.
Their only mistake is believing anything I do is an accident. I can sit in this house with no Internet, television, liquor, or girls, but I’ll come out of here with something far more frightening to my enemies.
A plan.
And a new pack of wolves.
I just didn’t expect one of my enemies to come to me.
I don’t know who smuggled her in or if they meant to leave her here, but I can smell her hiding in the house. She’s here.
And as the security detail leaves the supplies, the gates close, and the door to my gilded cage opens, giving me free reign of the house and grounds for another unsupervised month, I remember with a smile…
Blackchurch houses five prisoners. I’m only one of her problems.
*Nightfall is a full-length, romantic suspense suitable for readers 18+. It’s necessary to read the prior installments in the series before starting this story.

Nightfall is a symphony inside the masterpiece that is The Devil’s Night Series. Penelope Douglas gives us the perfect ending to something we want to go on forever.
Hatred. Intrigue. Sex. Lies. Devotion. And all the flexible morality we’ve come to love from this twisted little family—Nightfall has it all and then some.
Will and Emory are more than an HEA, it’s the beginning of the future—but now they’ll go and live on without us all watching.
Hats off, Pen. It’s more than five stars. For so many of us, it’s the universe. Thanks for the ride!
***This review has a lot of spoilers. If you have waited like me for this book it may ruin your mood if you have not read the book first. But if you are okay with spoilers go ahead. My review is positive.***
The final book to the Devil’s Night series featuring Emory and Will. I whined and complained for the release of the books beacause it was taking too long but I regret it now for the wait was worth it. This book felt different, the previous books were of typical controlling rich dads, psycho mums and their kids feeling left out. Will’s book had the same issues but with a different scenerio. He has a loving family compared to Micheal, Kai and Damon.
Emory Scott was a loner who prefers to stay alone. She hides her pain and abuses beneath her baggy clothes. Emory always had hatred towards the world, well, after her parents death and then her older brother, Martin took over. She is always snapping to anyone coming near.
Will Grayson was the lesser jerk and a major exceptional person. We met an easy going younger Will but the older Will is broody, angry and heartbroken. He has an agenda and it seems he figured out the secrets before everyone. Will is suddenly so meaningful.
Will has been attracted to Emory since he first saw her. Compared to his friends he never bullied nor misunderstood Emory. His violence is something different. When he tries to get closer to Emory she pushes him away. Emory is scared that she might ruin him with her woes, she is not a happy person, Martin is always keeping tabs on her and Will is not his favourite person. I usually don’t like the push and pull between the H and h but here I sympathize them. Although I think the seperation and heartbreak between Will and Emory could be avoided if she shared her abuses with Will but then Martin is threatening their grandmothers health over her.
We finally find out the real culprit who put Will and his friends in jail. Emory is involved in this, although it’s beacause of her they had a couple of years in prison instead of more. Emory’s silence was the big crime and an obstacle in this story. She never gave a chance to Will and their future by keeping her confessions to herself and pushing Will away. And once again she stayed quiet about her involvement in putting Will and his friends in jail. She could have talked about it to Will after he came out of jail.
The plot started in Blackchurch. Will has been tryng to recruit people like him. I thought it was absolutely unnecessary but Blackchurch had to happen because we have Aydin and Alex. Alex showed up in previous books and I don’t remember her. Aiden is like Damon but a tamer verson. There are secrets, agenda and jealousy among the right people. It’s crazy but in the end all are together.
Emory and Damon bond together considering they went through abuses by their loved one who is supposed to protect and love them.
I forgot most of the characters names and places of this series. I read Corrupt and Hideway twice but that was long ago. I may re-read the series someday and this time I have all the books. This series needs to be read orderwise for the plot is interconnected. In this book we meet everyone and the author showed little snippets among the couples through Will and Emory’s POV. Athos is a mystery. She is matured for her age. I thought Aydin and Alex is going to get a separate book but they got a HEA in this book. The author ended the book with a mystery vibe since Thunder Bay is always continuing with crime and excitement. But it’s safe to say our main heroes and heroines have a perfect HEA. This book also has M/M, F/F and a group scene sex. And i like the red theme covers of this series. I recommend this book highly.
The four horsemen and a bonus:
> Michael and Erika
They adopt Athos and finally many years later they have a miracle son. I’m happy for them even though they are the drama queens of this series.
> Kai and Banks
I always found this pairing as silent and lethal. They are like less bullshit and more work.
> Damon and Winter
No surprises here, my favourite pair. I’m sure you girls will be swooning with the horde of kids Damon is fathering and is also considering one more.
Damon has especial bonding with his friends wives. While Erika and Banks are his sisters (and most of times he walks on them getting fucked by their husbands, much to his dismay) he bonds with Emory too.
> Will and Emory
Well Will is my third favourite. Emory is broken and Will is her perfect match. He heals and protects her but she is his ruin. While there was unnecessary hurting involved at the end they got their redemption.
> Aydin and Alex
Aydin is my second favourite. They are perfect for each other. The starting has been rocky for them, they hurt each other and both of them are handful. Sadly their are no kids for them yet.
Wow! What an ending to such an amazing series! This is one of my favorite series and Will definitely deserved a special story for him and Emory. It was so twisty I couldn’t believe what I was reading! Penelope Douglas is a master writer and all of her books in this series shows it. She really knows how to put together a story. I loved every second of this series and I’m so sad it’s over but that epilogue gave me hope we will see more to come from the Thunder Bay families.
Nightfall is the epic conclusion to the Devil’s Night series by author Penelope Douglas. And it is fantastic!! It focuses on Will’s story. It is a brilliant cat and mouse game that blew my mind.
I have been intrigued with Will’s character since the series began. My curiosity only grew with each book. He is more than meets the eye. The definition of still waters run deep. His story was everything I hoped for and more.
Emory is a complicated character. She frustrated me at times but impressed me just as much. I loved her and wanted to shake her.
Their push / pull was so intense. The misunderstandings and miscommunication added to the drama between them, as did the secrets. Their attraction was palpable. They were steamy together.
I love the way author Penelope Douglas ties the series together. She stayed true to the characters and further developed their relationships.
There were unexpected twists and secrets revealed that led to more questions and more shocking revelations. Nightfall is gritty, edgy, dramatic, angsty and intense. It is sexy and hot AF. If you read the series so far, you know what I mean and author Penelope Douglas outdoes herself with this book!
I love the ending!! Author Penelope Douglas has written a brilliant series with amazing characters and a fantastic story arc that flowed seamlessly across all the novels, while also writing fabulous stories for each of the horsemen, culminating in Nightfall. Highly recommend.
I feel like this is an end of an era! I fell head over heels in love with Corrupt when it released so long ago. It was the first dark romance I read and loved, which quickly became my favorite trope. I patiently awaited and devoured each new release in the series and never felt like their story would truly be over. It’s so bittersweet that it finally happened. I never thought one of the Devil’s Night books could compare to the pedestal I had put Corrupt on, but Nightfall did it! Michael and Rika will always be my number 1 in this world, but I think the way Pen finished the series was fabulous! Very well done and I’m so sad to leave this world behind but can’t wait to see what you have in store for us next! Hopefully a book for Alex somewhere down the line because I just love her and feel like she needs to tell her own story!
I loved everything about this book and this series…so sad it’s come to an end!
“The role of the villain is only determined by who’s telling the story.”
This book was one of my most anticipated ever! I even stopped reading another book to read this as soon as it came out.
Anyone who knows me, knows my love for these boys and this series and I was dying to get inside Will’s head and see what makes him tick. He’s the horsemen that never feels like he is needed. He feels like without him, they wouldn’t be any weaker but he just got proved wrong massively in Nightfall.
I loved this book so much but I am also sad that I couldn’t give it 5 stars like all of the rest in the series. For me, Alex featured way to heavily in this book. I know she was an important person to Will but I felt like sometimes her role overtook Emory’s and it effected Will and Emmy’s bond.
With that be said, it was still an epic story and one that I will never forget. Also Penelope Douglas is the queen of sex scenes and making you all hot and bothered!
If you haven’t started the Devil’s night series by Penelope Douglas then please start it now. You are missing out massively. These characters own my heart. I am so sad that this world is over.
Trigger warning for physical abuse
I learned so much from this series. I’m sad to say goodbye to such a beloved group of characters since I’ve followed this series since Corrupt first came out, but I’m hopeful Pen will have us return to Thunder Bay again someday. So many quotable quotes, some of the best character development I’ve read so far (Hi, Damon!), and so many utterly soul-wrenching moments. I can’t not be unaffected as so many lessons have been learned, and I’m pretty sure I’ll forever look back at this series as one of the few that has touched my heart. I will look at the heroes with fondness, but Pen’s heroines in the Devil’s Night series are some of the most imperfect yet awe-inspiring ladies I’ve read. I can only hope to be half as brave and singular as they are.
“Be Lilith, Never Eve”
What in the HELL am I supposed to do with my life now!?
Whew! That was one crazy ride! Oh my gosh. Nightfall was everything I was hoping for, but also everything I didn’t know I needed. As you all know, Nightfall is thick! And I am so glad for that. There was so much going on, being revealed, and wrapped up in this book. And Penelope did a fantastic job wrapping up the Devils night series. Though, I’m always down for more, just saying.
“The role of the villain is only determined by who’s telling the story.”
I just realized in rating my review too, that every book in this series has been a five star read for me. I’m not sure that’s ever happened for me. Penelope Douglas is a Queen.
I took my time reading this one. It was bittersweet because I’m sad to see this series finally come to an end. But it was SO worth the wait. Will and Emory are everything! Gosh, these two killed me.
“I am not scared,” he repeated. “I am the eye of the storm. The calm in the madness.”
You think this book is just about their love story, though? Hell, no. There was so much going on, that I wasn’t bored for even a second. And that’s hard to do for me with a book this long! I couldn’t get enough of Will and Emory and everything happening. It felt like coming home, diving back into this world.
And let me just say, Pen stepped up the damn heat level in this one. Shit! The heat was sizzling off the pages.
Gah! Can I just like never leave this world!?
I had all these plans for this amazing review I would write and instead I’m just gushing, but I can’t help it! Also, I don’t want to spoil anything. So just read it for yourselves! Believe me, it has been well worth the wait to get this fantastic end to one of the best series I’ve ever read. I’m gonna miss my horseman.
“He wanted to give me a piece of him I’d never escape, but he had a part of me I’d never get back.”
OOOOOOHHHHHHH BOY!! We saw a glimpse of what was to come in the last book, but you are NOT READY!!! I was not prepared for the explosive, stark, raving darkness paired with a long and complicated, yet swoon-worthy history and even more heart wrenching, the last book in one of my most favorite bully romance series OF ALL TIME. The world the Author created has been a pulse thumping joy ride from start to finish and I could start from the beginning and read it over and over and never tire of the Horsemen, or the ladies that pull their strings. My Kindle was blazing, not only from the tension, rage, and unfinished business of Will and Emory that lasted decades. In the previous books, it seemed like my assessment of Will did not do him justice. He is fire, steam, and just oozes that special kind of panty dropping alpha that I never saw coming!!!
“It’s not a crush. This is a man who’s long overdue in showing you what he can do.’ And I slammed my mouth down on hers again and ripped open my jeans.”
This book packs a punch, so definitely clear your schedule…you won’t be able to put it down. Characters old and new intertwined while the onion like tale unraveled in a heap of survival, fighting inner demons, and finally discovering who did what to whom throughout the series. I’m so sad to see it end, but so thankful it was written because it was an absolute experience like non other. Fans of Bully know exactly what I’m talking about…..just utter and uncontrollable hotness!! I never wanted it to end. One of my Top Reads this year, no doubt!!
“People hide in the dark. They quench their thirsts in the dark. We’re more ourselves here than anywhere else. I get to be me…when nightfall is coming.”
~~~Erika,
SWEET JEEZUZ… I FLOVED this book!!
We’ve been wondering about Will’s whereabouts for a while and in NIGHTFALL we discovered exactly where he was, though the whys and hows of what happened take some time to be revealed.
I loved reading the beginnings of Emory and Will’s relationship, through youthful naivety and the rose tint of first love – all while Emmy’s life at home was a living hell that she kept secret from everyone (except the one person you’d least expect to notice and try to help!!) – to the heartbreaking ending, that left Will in particular wondering what the hell happened and caused hell to break loose.
I felt that the story explained Will’s self destructive behaviour to an extent, though it wasn’t only related to his relationship with Emory but also to how he saw himself and viewed his own worth within the circle of his friends.
Their story was heartbreaking (I spent a fair bit of time in tears while reading certain chapters) and while their reactions and feelings when they meet again seemed to be of hate and distrust, ultimately their hearts were still with each other, and it seemed that this could be a case of whether or not they had the potential for a way froward and possible future together…..if they wanted it.
Some of both Em and Will’s actions and words were cutting and painful but you can completely understand the reasons behind them. Secrets and lies and the twisted motives of others led to the loss of nearly a decade for the pair, though in all honesty, I think they both needed the time and growth to find themselves and be what the other needed.
If I had one teeny issue with the book it was the thread around Alex that for a bit, for me personally, overshadowed Emory especially. I get that Alex has been a part of Will’s life for a while and that their relationship was quite different from what he had with Em, but in all honesty, I wish we’d had less of Alex and more ‘present day’ conversation and connection between the leads. Will’s behaviour towards Emory when Alex was around vexed me at times but saying that, Emory wasn’t completely innocent in some of her actions, decisions and comments at those points.
Overall, Penelope Douglas has most certainly ensured that NIGHTFALL was definitely my favourite read of the series and Will & Emmy are by far my fave couple (closely followed by Kai & Nik!!).
I enjoyed seeing the growth and development of the other guys and girls we’ve met in the series and the epilogue was great (yeah, it left more than a couple of questions but maybe we’ll get answers to them at some point in the future….. we can but hope!!)
The final instalment of the Devil’s Night story answered a lot of questions, gave closure for some of the characters, had more than a couple of twists and unexpected surprises and was a fantastic way to wrap up the series.
If you’re a fan of PD’s you’ll definitely enjoy it. If you’re new to Pen’s work, start at the beginning and grab yourself a copy of Corrupt.
Fantastic end to an era! Wow! I got pretty emotional at part’s in this book and it kinda surprised me. It shouldn’t, because these characters have been a part of my life for 5 years, but it did. Each book in the series has a story about a different couple, but that’s not the only relationship in these books. The bigger story I think is the one of friendship! I mean they fight, but they make up and it makes you wish you had friends like that! This will forever go down as one of my favorite series of all time.
First, I’ve loved this series and I’ve looked forward to this book from the beginning. Will has always been a favorite and I loved seeing him step up in this book. The blurb piqued my interest but I was also a bit apprehensive about this one. Each book has kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. I was never quite sure where we were going and I was torn about that. It sparks my anxiety a bit and I found myself skipping parts and then going back when I knew everything was going to be ok. The flashbacks were like that for me. I skipped most of them and went back and read some when I finished the book. Emory and Will’s flashbacks were heartbreaking and some of that was hard for me to read but by the end everything was tied up in a somewhat pretty bow and I was fine.
I’m a mood reader and the world is crazy so I think that has influenced some of my feelings. I might change my rating after a rereading. I didn’t really like Corrupt the first time I read it but changed my mind and rating after a reread.
This book was something else I love every single one of Penelope’s books and this was not any different but Damm this book. From start to finish it gets you hooked. I feel like we have been waiting for Will’s story forever but it was so worth the wait. This book was a page turner if there ever was one . Will and Emorys story like the rest of the series is not for the faint hearted it’s not a simple love story, it has secrets and torture and passion and heat and lies and undeniable love and so much more . I loved the little friendship that Emory and Damon had the secret they kept for years that bonded them . This book makes you feel so many things happiness laughter hot and I mean so so hot also makes you sad and makes you not want to stop reading until the very last page this is book 4 of the Devils Night series and yes you need to read the ones before it to know what is going on even though each book has its own main couple their stories all Intertwine. So trust me read th all you will no regret it once you start you won’t want to stop till the last one . I feel sad though cus I feel like it’s the end of an era we have watched Michael Kai Will and Damon go through it all and watch them grow up it’s sad to close this chapter , but hopefully if the epilogue we will maybe see something that includes them who knows what she will write next but I know I can’t wait
I devoured this utterly perfect conclusion to the Devil’s Night series & was left with chills at the end! I’m book hungover in the best way. A must read, along with the rest of the series!
It can’t be over, can it?!?!? *happy and sad tears* I have waited, what feels like FOREVER, for this final installment to the Devil’s Night series.
For Emory and Will’s story. For the final Horseman to get his “little trouble”.
For Micheal and Rika, Kai and Banks, Damon and Winter and Alex and ??? (sorry not giving you that detail) to get all their HEAs.
But at the same time, I have dreaded this conclusion because with every closure, there’s always this looming sense of, “That’s it? There’s no more coming?” It’s bittersweet and happiness alllumped into one. It’s your heart overflowing, while tears are running down your face because you can’t contain your emotions. When an author is able to give me that feeling from a book/series. When an author is able to create a deep rooted love for their characters within me, one that won’t break and only grows more and more with each book, that’s when I know I’ve found a masterpiece. THIS book was that masterpiece. Pen created this masterpiece.
“The role of the villain is only determined by who’s telling the story”.
Dare I say, this is my favorite series of all time? Yes, I do dare say it! I don’t want to say goodbye to this book world and these characters. I’ve been immersed in their world for so long now, I feel like I’m a part of it. I’ve reread and listened to these books many times and I still love them! I started out this journey back in 2016 and I have been going along for the ride ever since. All the wait in between books was worth it!
I could NOT have asked for a better story for Emmy and Will. This finale was E V E R Y T H I N G The way that Pen “connected all the dots” and answered all the questions that we’ve had while reading the series, was utterly brilliant! I had SO MANY mind blowing moments throughout this book. Everything just fell into place flawlessly with how Pen laid out the past and present chapters and worked Will and Emmy’s story into the series. It was as if their story was the glue that bound everything and everyone together. Their relationship was happening in the background throughout the series without us actually seeing it and I love how Pen wove their story into the existing books to make the series come together…again, it was FLAWLESS!
Returning fans of this series will find themselves laughing, swooning, crying and surprised by all the revelations.
Returning fans will see and feel the growth that these characters have made and they’ll love them even more for it.
Returning fans will find a deeper connection and love for all the Horseman and their woman.
Returning fans will plain and simply, love this book. I have no doubts.
Although this is the end, *tears* I am going to be here hoping and praying that Pen gives us bonus scenes and possibly future books, you know, sense there’s always the children’s book to write *wink* *fingers crossed*
5+ “we want what we want” stars
There’s no words to describe…
I’m still high, can’t believe it is over. Can’t freakin believe it’s OVER
You’re a rockstar Mrs P, a freakin rockstar goddess!!!What a way to seduce with your words and not talking about just the hotness of the scenes I’m talking about the whole thing from book one to the end and then to the epilogue; how everything consumes you that is totally overwhelming.
Once again you left me speechless and amazed about what YOU CAN do, I’m crazy ready for the next adventure and get my mind blown off but first let me mourn a little.
And yes Mrs P I cried like I told you I was gonna, couldn’t help it; you made me loved them something fierce
INTENSE, ANGSTY, A ROLLERCOASTER OF EMOTIONS AND A NEVER ENDING LOVE
This is the first book in the Devil’s Night series that I have read and O.M.G. I was completely blown away! I finished it night before last and I’m still reeling from it! I don’t believe I have ever read a better book that was so intriguing, suspenseful, with a rollercoaster of twists and turns; yet with the angsty romance aspect that just takes your breath away!
Emory and Will’s story holds so much heartache, trauma and misplaced trust that is extremely hard to feel the book is going to have type of HEA. It just doesn’t seem possible.
Will and Emory haven’t seen or talked to each other in a few years and Emory ends up being unknowingly kidnapped to a place called “Blackchurch” where Will has been sent. Due to their past and plenty of hurt feelings and hearts, it’s not a pleasant reunion between the two. Emory is bound and determined to get out of that house and back to her life; however she doesn’t know everyone who’s there are also stranded with no escape route.
Throughout the story with Emory trying to leave there are flashbacks to her and Will’s past that brings you up to speed on why they have such hurt feelings for each other.
This book has plenty of intrigue, suspense and heart wrenching moments that it was extremely difficult to put it down; however it is a very long book that I had to read in two sittings.
If you are looking for an intense rollercoaster of a ride, yet romantic read, this is an absolutely phenomenal book with a beautiful HEA.
I am extremely ecstatic I found this book because now I know it’s a series and I can now go read the others! Thank you Penelope for your amazing use of words because you blew my mind with this book!!!
It all began when someone got their hands on the phone. Or did it? The videos of their antics went viral, and police arrested three of the guys. When Kai, Damon, and Will get out of prison, the four horsemen reunite, and Michael helps them seek revenge on those responsible. But they were grossly mistaken. Pursuing the objects of their obsessions tears a rift in their friendship and battle lines are drawn.
I read Corruption back toward the start of the year and I don’t know why I didn’t move straight onto the rest. I loved the first book as much as any other Penelope Douglas novel, so I should have anticipated one heck of a ride with the Devil’s Night series. Of the lot, I’d have to say Hideaway and Nightfall were my favourites, not only because I adore Kai and Will, but for the intriguing plot lines. That said, all of these books are fantastic, and the author continues to sit on my list of favourites.
If you enjoy dark romance, you’ll love this series. Penelope Douglas is a brilliant author.
Book 4 in the Devil’s Night Series or book 5 if you count the novella Conclave. I was between a 3.5 and 4 stars on this one. To reach 5 stars in my book this would have to be something I will read again in the future. I enjoyed the series overall but honestly I don’t know if this is a series I will feel the need to re-read again, time will tell I guess. This book was Will and Emory’s story with a wrap up of all the characters in the epilogue. The story is told by both Will and Emory flipping back to when they were in high school and back to present day. Overall I enjoyed the book and wanted to see how the series would end. I do not plan on continuing on to the novella Fire Night as I find novellas just too short of a read in my book. I do look forward to checking out more books from Penelope Douglas, this was my first series of hers to read and I will definitely check out more books soon.
