Stephen King’s first collection of short stories showcases the darkest depths of his brilliant imagination and will “chill the cockles of many a heart” (Chicago Tribune). Featuring “Jerusalem’s Lot,” the basis for the upcoming tv series Chapelwaite. Here we see mutated rats gone bad (“Graveyard Shift”); a cataclysmic virus that threatens humanity (“Night Surf,” the basis for The Stand); a … humanity (“Night Surf,” the basis for The Stand); a possessed, evil lawnmower (“The Lawnmower Man”); unsettling children from the heartland (“Children of the Corn”); a smoker who will try anything to stop (“Quitters, Inc.”); a reclusive alcoholic who begins a gruesome transformation (“Gray Matter”); and many more shadows and visions that will haunt you long after the last page is turned.

I Love Stephen King’s short stories!
Does this man ever write a bad book!
Master storyteller. As always!
King knows how to write short stories. Great read.
The best Stephen King’s short story book ever!!!
I really enjoy Stephen King’s short stories….and these are some of the best!!
Nice collection of horror stories.
I love Stephen King. I read this book years ago and was so happy to read it again. The stories are wonderfully scary and entertaining.
The original cover on the paperback gave me nightmares as a kid. LOVE the stories
All the stories in this book were excellent!
In a nutshell SICK! Not scary not interesting just stupid not believable just pathetic. Not up to his standard!
I love this book! I have seen it for many years, but always past on picking it up. Not really sure why. I love Mr. King’s writing so very much, but I have never been drawn to the short story novella genre. Boy, was I ever wrong. The stories range from the strange, frightening, and horrifying to the weird and unimaginable. King grabs your imagination and shakes it like a dog with a rag-doll in its mouth. There are a few stories that tough on things that frighten and scare your deepest childhood fears (like the boogeyman!). I was so creeped out I had to read that story twice! You’re going to love this one. Don’t be like me and keep passing it up. You’ll be so frightfully glad you did.
I loved it. Stephen King never disappoints. His stories make you feel as though you’re there. I would recommend this book to anyone.
King is often even better when constrained by the short story format.
Read this years ago when it was first written. Loved it then and still enjoy it. Happy to get it in Kindle edition.
Stephen King as usual does not disappoint. From the absolute horrific ending of Night Shift to the sort-of happy ending of Quitter’s Inc. the reader is enthralled.
Night Shift is one of my favorite Steven King books. I happen to love short stories, as well as everything SK has written. I admit unabashedly that he is my favorite author. I won’t go through each story and bore you with my take on each one. It’s been years since I first read this book, but I can remember each story almost word for word, and I have read it two or more times since. King is a great storyteller and I learned long ago that each word in his books is important to the story. If you want a book that will thoroughly entertain you, buy this book. You will not be disappointed.
Reading this Book is easy Page-turner and Scary! Can’t put it down!!
Classic Stephen King at his finest.
Classic King, proving once again he is a master of the short story as well as the novel. Storytelling that reaches beyond the genre.
