An entertaining witch, a sorcerer, and lots of magic makes for an entertaining read.
A goth styled witch gets a job at a funeral home with a serious and quite mortal director. On her first day, she discovers the dead golem man had apparently been murdered. Reluctantly, she enlist the help of her sorcerer ex-boyfriend, and the three of them discover the man not only had a wife but also a mistress and lover. The three work together to solve who murdered the golem.
I love how Cate Lawley wove her paranormal world into the real one. Her spin on magical creatures is also unique. Will definitely be reading more by this new-to-me author.
Night Shift Witch was an amusing murder mystery story of paranormal proportions. A witch in training, Star, takes a job at a funeral home to help pay her bills and get out from under her mother’s roof. The human funeral director, Ben, has no idea of Star’s witchy status or that his latest client is a golem, a paranormal enhanced human made up of various body parts. Turns out that the client, Mr. Chalmers, was murdered and not killed in a car accident as reported. Star recruits her ex-boyfriend Alex, a paranormal investigator, into the mix along with her new human boss, Ben. The adventure begins when we discover that Mr. Chalmers has more going on than what might be expected, including a wife, mistress, and girlfriend. Who couldn’t see how that would work out!
The story is fast, fun, and exciting from the start so sit back and enjoy the ride.
I really enjoyed this book!
Night Shift Witch
(Night Shift Witch #1)
by Cate Lawley
This is such a fun story of a witch, Stephanie and her witch name is Star, that gets a job at a funeral home. Her first body she sees is not really a human and will probably be kidnapped. Now how to explain this to a normal boss without giving away her secret? Her ex boyfriend is a supernatural cop and between the three of them, things get very crazy indeed. Who murdered this guy and why? What is he? Fun book!
I enjoyed the time spent with this book. The author has a real talent with creating interesting characters and keeping the action going all through the book. I can always depend on a good read from her.
Although not a usual reader of stories featuring witches, I do enjoy a good mystery. As my first introduction to Cate Lawley’s ‘Vegan Vamp Mysteries’ series, I enjoyed Night Shift Witch. The main character, Star, is an interesting individual but a likeable one, and through the author’s writing, it was easy to quickly gain an understanding of who Star is, including her strengths and failings. She had some support characters who weren’t as likeable, but they didn’t need to be.
Supernatural, mystery and an overall whodunnit with an underlying shimmer of past and potential romance all left me enjoying this read a lot. Good writing and a good cozy mystery story made for good reading. Enjoy!
It was an excerpt of 5 pages
I really liked it. wish was a longer.
It is a 4 book series. I am starting the second book.
Read this series after reading the author’s Vegan Vamp series. It was fun to see the early adventures of Star, before she becomes the powerful witch you meet in the Vegan Vamp books. Also enjoyed meeting her husband Ben, who is only mentioned in the later series.
Couldn’t put this book down once I started reading. It is fun and entertaining.
I could not wait to start the 2nd book in the series! The story, although short, was so much fun to read.
The Star saga is a snappy, cozy mystery that will keep you on your toes. I really enjoyed this book & have recommended it. It’s the best of both worlds, paranormal and mystery, blended together seamlessly. The author did an excellent job.
Cute this one. Lot’s of tongue-in-cheek humor, a bit of mystery and good guys vs bad guys. It’s a quick read, you can read it by itself, there are characters who have history and new ones to add to the mix. A girl’s just got to do what a girl’s gotta do.
