#1 New York Times bestselling author Patricia Briggs’s Mercy Thompson series has been hailed as “one of the best” (Library Journal). Now Mercy must deal with an unwanted guest—one that brings a danger unlike anything she’s ever known. When her mate’s ex-wife storms back into their lives, Mercy knows something isn’t right. Christy has the furthest thing from good intentions—she wants Adam back, … intentions—she wants Adam back, and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to get him, including turning the pack against Mercy.
Mercy isn’t about to step down without a fight, but there’s a more dangerous threat circling. As the bodies start piling up, she must put her personal troubles aside to face a creature with the power to tear her whole world apart.

Great book by a great author.
Another great installment of the Mercedes Thompson series. A thoroughly good read, but I did feel like it needed a bit more resolution at the end. While there is this overarching conflict dealing with the villain, it had a lot of drama between the characters that just didn’t feel like it got enough of a conclusion at the end.
And I was thoroughly sad to have another story with so little Samuel in it. I love the guy and he’s been far too absent!
***Content Warning: There’s a sex scene in the book. It’s one of the more graphic for this series, but it’s still in the PG-13 range. It’s quick and mostly vague.
The Mercy Thompson series is an auto-buy for me and the early books are especially fantastic. One of the authors all paranormal romance should be judged by.
What I Liked:
She’s back!! I adore this series and all of Mercy’s badassery. Although I enjoyed the last few books, I felt that they did slow down a bit once Mercy and Adam finally got together. However, we are now back to the awesomesauce urban fantasy that is the reason I fell in love with this series. The main mystery of the day is a BIG one in Night Broken and, as always, it’s woven perfectly. The nature of the Big Bad is actually revealed pretty early in the book, but there are so many different story lines that cross in this book, it actually works really well.
I was going to put this in the ‘what I didn’t like’ section but it really doesn’t fit there as you’re not supposed to like it. Christy. I wanted to smack the shit out of Adam’s ex-wife as soon as the little wench shows up. He’s not even mine and as soon as she started pulling her damsel in distress bullshit, my hackles went up on Mercy’s behalf. I got very territorial and I was ready to tear her apart. Yes, a fictional character, I know, but read the book. You’ll totally be right there with me. There were a few “Oh no she didn’t” moments, but dont worry. Mercy handles her business in her own way. *wink wink*
Although it has no sway on the story, I wanted to point out that GORGEOUS cover. THAT is an urban fantasy cover to be proud of!! I love it! As soon as I saw it, I was DYING to read the book. One thing I cant stand is the mention throughout this series of Mercy not being beautiful. It’s irritating. Not that I want her to be all “I’m so hot” (said in the Paris Hilton voice that sounds like she’s rocked on quaaludes) but some confidence in her appearance would be nice. I dont know about you guys but the Mercy on that cover is HOT. I think the only covers from this series that come close to being just as hot are Bone Crossed and River Marked. Luckily, her tatas have stopped inflating since River Marked. If they had kept going, I think we would be reading about her self-inflicted black eye problem. I mean, REALLY. Look at the size of those things on the cover for Bood Bound, then look at them on the cover for River Marked. Ok…..I am not obsessing over a fictional character’s knockers.

What I Didn’t Like:
Something I have noticed a lot since Adam and Mercy finally hooked up is their flirting has become………..I dont even know how to describe it. Cheesy? It sounds forced, not sexual. I would love to see some of that heat come back to their relationship. That is the only hiccup I really found in this book. The rest is written as frikkin flawless urban fantasy.
Who I Would Recommend This Book To:
If you are a fan of urban fantasy, REAL urban fantasy, this is a series you’d love. It’s similar to the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews. Solid urban fantasy with its own niche. The world building on these two series is TOTALLY different, but they are similar in that their respective worlds are so unique. If you haven’t read the Mercy Thompson series up to this point, I highly recommend going back to the beginning. It’s a great series but if you dont start at the beginning, you’re missing out on some great back story! And the courtship between Adam and Mercy is fantastic!
Borrowed from library.
*RUNS INTO THE ROOM, SCREAMING* This book was so freaking good. Read it in one day because I could not stop.
Bringing Christy drama to the table, so to speak, added a lot to the book. Made you sympathize more with Mercy and showed some other pack members true feelings. Even though I wanted to shout at Christy and Mercy for a lot of the book, I loved every second of it.
Oh, and the action in this book is unreal. I don’t want to give too much away, but there’s plenty of it and I can’t get over how well Briggs brought all of the things together. I want every character – except Christy – to get their own book. So good.
Any of Patricia Briggs Mercy Thompson books are wonderful, interesting and takes you on adventures with the pack. This one has a wrench thrown in via Adams ex who has gotten her self into a fix. Not just that but she’s trying to put a wedge in between Adam and Mercy. This is a great series and worth your time to read.
Another good installment of Mercy’s adventures. Adam’s ex-wife figures prominently in this one and is a bit cliched, but there is another unique and scary monster (other than her ) to deal with. Enjoyed it!
