#1 New York Times bestselling author Patricia Briggs’s Mercy Thompson series has been hailed as “one of the best” (Library Journal). Now Mercy must deal with an unwanted guest—one that brings a danger unlike anything she’s ever known. When her mate’s ex-wife storms back into their lives, Mercy knows something isn’t right. Christy has the furthest thing from good intentions—she wants Adam back, … intentions—she wants Adam back, and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to get him, including turning the pack against Mercy.
Mercy isn’t about to step down without a fight, but there’s a more dangerous threat circling. As the bodies start piling up, she must put her personal troubles aside to face a creature with the power to tear her whole world apart.

Urban Fantasy. Main character is a strong woman. One in series.
Adam’s ex-wife comes back, running from trouble she stirred up by loving and leaving a volcano god. Mayhem ensues. Some wonderful people get hurt. Mercy gets hurt, of course, but still manages to limp her way to victory protecting her pack. Coyote has to have a word or three as well. Not my favorite in the series (because it was emotionally tought, frustrating, unfair, hard to live through as a reader and want as quirky as some) but worth the read.
Enjoyed the book as always!
Great series of books. I’ve read all of them multiple times.
The world of Mercy Thompson, a were coyote, and daughter of Coyote, the trouble making American Indian God, has lasted now through 12, soon to be 13 books. Please read them in order, as the characters change and grow through the books.
One of my favorite fantasy series.
I can’t say enough about the worlds that Patricia Briggs creates! She sucks you right in to the story, the characters and the world comes alive in vivid detail. Always a hit with me!
Mercy is soft-hearted and protective, but surely there are limits! Voluntarily agreeing to host Adam’s ex- puts Mercy squarely in matrimonial Trouble City, over Jesse’s earnest (and accurate) protests. Honestly, Mercy’s patience and restraint when dealing with the ex-‘s attempts to put her down sbould qualify her for sainthood. I can’t help but think that it was helpful for Coyote and Guayota to make life interesting at that time; Mercy really needed to hit something. How did she manage to limit her punishment of the ex- to blue dye?
Absolutely fantastic – as are all the Mercy Thompson books – and read the Alpha & Omega series for additional insight into Mercy, no way you will regret it!!!
I LOVE this Author. I love this Series!!!!! I own ALL of them and cannot wait for her to continue!!!!!!!
Night Broken is more somber than previous books in the series. Mercy is under a lot more stress, and for the most part, the pack was less than helpful in relieving that stress. A new addition to the cast looks promising for more hijinks in the future, though.

Great series. Start with the first one to get to know the characters
This one was a little bit awesome. You so often see the protagonist being torn down by an ex, not the love interest who lets his ex tear him down. Though the fact the pack can’t see how much she makes Adam hate himself is annoying. They’re supposed to be able to tell when people are lying or how they’re feeling. On the phone, maybe Christy could fool them, but she shouldn’t be able to in person. The fact that Mercy saw how she treated Adam outside the pack and the pack didn’t is just crazy.
And the phone thing drove me nuts! She couldn’t ever get ahold of Adam and when someone picked up, it was the ex! Who let’s their ex pick up their cellphone? NO ONE! Mercy is always getting into trouble and Adam NEVER answers. I don’t care if he’s in a meeting, have your cell on you and on, tell people your wife is often in danger and you need to be reachable. Boom, done!
i love all of the books in this series. wonderful believable characters. wish they were real!
Great book! LOVE Mercy .
I actually read this book for the first time a couple years ago (before I started regularly reviewing books), but I’d somehow gotten it out of order in the series. Now I’m rereading in the right order. The fact that I had no qualms reading the book a second time is a good indication of its quality.
Along with the regular characters from Mercy’s life so far, this book introduces Mercy’s sort-of-half-brother Gary Laughingdog, a fellow coyote shifter. We also spend a good amount of time with Christy, Adam’s infuriating ex-wife and Jesse’s mother. She’s a character designed for the reader to hate, and Briggs succeeds with flying colors.
In true Mercy fashion events plummet from bad to worse as seemingly simple problems turn supernatural. And through it all, Mercy’s drive to protect those around her keeps her moving forward to the bitter end. She comes out with both new friends and new scars.
With masterful character development and smooth prose, Night Broken is a great read (and re-read).
One of my favorite authors with a wonderful cast of characters that feel like family. Great series. Urban Fantasy at its best.
I loved this book and I love this series but I swear to God I will never ever EVER read it again because Christy is the actual worst. I don’t understand how some in the pack prefer her to Mercy let alone even LIKE her. Especially with how she treats Adam and Jesse. The thing that saved this book though is that even with all the Christy nonsense, I never had to worry about Adam. He was rock solid and I appreciated that I didn’t have to worry about their relationship on top of Christy being annoying. She clearly had an agenda but I never had to worry when it came to Adam and I appreciated that. Oh and also. This book needed much more Ben. I missed him. But all in all, another good addition to the series but Christy can leave now.
Have read the all the first 10 books. Worth reading
I totally and enormously love Patricia Brigg’s Mercy Thompson series! I’ve been a super-fan from the beginning book of the series and wait – impatiently -for the next in the series to be published!
The characters that she has created are as familiar as next door neighbors but so much more exciting! Werewolves — intelligent men and women who were ‘made’ in usually horrible conditions, and Mercy, perhaps child of Native Coyote — or perhaps not — Coyote couldn’t tell the truth if his or others’ lives depended on it. Mercy manages the pack magic often. And gives the Alpha all the grief he deserves when he gets too full of himself and especially when he over-reaches in his relationship with Mercy and tries to control her. But she’s my kind of woman —
nobody tells her what to do! Unless she thinks it might be a good idea. But she’ll do it with her own twist.
The cast list is rich with excellent, unique characters, some sympathetic and some purely evil. The author is a master of her craft, her writing smooth with occasional “gotcha’s” and the plots rich in imagination and detail.
If you haven’t read any of the books, I’m sure this is all very confusing, probably because I’m describing it so poorly. But, if you want to spend a late night, riveted to an excellent adventure with characters you will quickly grow to love, read this series! You will not regret a minute or an hour of lost sleep!
I love this series, every book a five star
