#1 New York Times bestselling author Patricia Briggs’s Mercy Thompson series has been hailed as “one of the best” (Library Journal). Now Mercy must deal with an unwanted guest—one that brings a danger unlike anything she’s ever known. When her mate’s ex-wife storms back into their lives, Mercy knows something isn’t right. Christy has the furthest thing from good intentions—she wants Adam back, … intentions—she wants Adam back, and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to get him, including turning the pack against Mercy.
Mercy isn’t about to step down without a fight, but there’s a more dangerous threat circling. As the bodies start piling up, she must put her personal troubles aside to face a creature with the power to tear her whole world apart.

I love how Patricia Briggs incorporates the paranormal into the “normal” world. The characters go through issues that other people face while facing the supernatural issues also. Plus, just love Mercy and Adam!
This is a great series. I love that the lead character is a strong woman and a badass. I recommend this book to anyone that likes adventure, drama, love, werewolves, and some magic. She must help save her mates ex wife but she knows something is fishy with the whole situation.
Briggs’ strengths are her characters and her world building. I loved the ancient malevolent fire god hellbent on revenge. The mechanism the author used to propel the fire god into the book world, though, was a bit awkward. Adam’s divorced wife jumped into bed with the fire god, and now he wants her. Forever. Scared out of her wits, she turns to the pack for protection.
This would work except Christy hates werewolves. It’s why she walked out of Adam’s life. The other issue, and why I gave the book 4 stars and not 5, was how Adam and Mercy reacted to Christy’s obvious efforts to rekindle her relationship with Adam. Adam is indulgent. I’d expect the Adam I’ve come to know would lay down the law. Ditto for Mercy. Instead of staking her claim to her place in the pack and her mate, she escapes to her mechanic shop to avoid Christy’s wonderful gourmet meals.
Christy aside, another strength in this book is how the Coyote thread is developed.
Enough spoilers. There’s plenty of reason to read this one, but you will hate Christy.
I love how rich this world is with creatures, especially unique creatures. This creature was very unique and deadly. I loved it.
During all this Mercy has to deal with Christy, Adam’s ex-wife, who is trying to make her look bad and get Adam back. If that wasn’t enough she also meets a new walker, a new submissive werewolf who has issues, and Tad is in trouble now.
This is the first book in the Mercy Thompson series. I highly recommend them all but you really need the back story to truly understand her relationships later in the books. I love that her characters actually show personal growth in her books. You don’t get the same stagnate personal issues book after book after book.
Night Broken is the eighth book in the Mercy Thompson series and I just loved getting to reenter this world with Mercy. Just when you think there is nothing else that Mercy and crew can face the most difficult challenge to date happens. Adam’s ex-wife comes to town and throws a wrench in everything. Oh my gosh this book was just so good. I was just drawn into this story and I didn’t want it to end. My emotions were just all over the place throughout this story. I wanted to yell at certain characters throughout this book and bang my head against the wall at others. It just wouldn’t let me stop reading this story until I turned the last page. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

Great book, page turner. Kept me wondering what was happening next.
What can I say? I love all of her books and look forward to the next in the series.
love the series
A great series. A well developed world with far more than the usual werewolves/vampires/witches. A main character that’s a delight to follow. Best of all, speaking to the guys, the focus on this paranormal romance has remained on the paranormal, with the romance still just a spice on great adventures..
I love the Mercy Thompson books. She always finds interesting ways to solve problems.

Love this series.
