Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children’s librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed twenty-five dollars in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that’s sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she’s mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead. And thanks to … to the mysterious stranger she met while chugging neon-colored cocktails, she wakes up with a decidedly unladylike thirst for blood.
Jane is now the latest recipient of a gift basket from the Newly Undead Welcoming Committee, and her life-after-lifestyle is taking some getting used to. Her recently deceased favorite aunt is now her ghostly roommate. She has to fake breathing and endure daytime hours to avoid coming out of the coffin to her family. She’s forced to forgo her favorite down-home Southern cooking for bags of O negative. Her relationship with her sexy, mercurial vampire sire keeps running hot and cold. And if all that wasn’t enough, it looks like someone in Half Moon Hollow is trying to frame her for a series of vampire murders. What’s a nice undead girl to do?

Molly Harper’s introductory Half -Moon Hollow book is one of my favorites. Jane is relatable, funny, and has a crazy family just like the rest of us. Her misadventures into being turned into a vampire are hilarious, realistic and epic. Jane is an every woman, only with fangs, a cranky grandmother, a ghost aunt and a devastatingly handsome sire. Jusy talking about makes me want to read it for the 5th time.
Molly Harper knows how to write the absolute best characters and the funniest laugh out loud scenes. The main character, Jane, is an all time favourite, this book had me laughing my way through and then it was over all too soon. I’ve read most of what Molly has written and can’t get enough. Any book with Jane Jameson is a winner!
When children’s librarian Jane Jameson is fired with only a $25 restaurant gift certificate as severance pay, she decides she might as well go drink the whole $25. Staggering home in the dark, she’s mistaken for a deer and shot. Rescued by a mysterious stranger, she wakes up with a new and unusual taste for blood, and a gift basket from the Newly Undead Welcoming Committee. Now she has to learn to be a vampire, while still faking her humanity for her family and neighbors; and to top it off, someone is trying to frame her for a series of vampire-style murders. Full of snark and humor, this is the start of a funny, lively, interesting paranormal series.
Funny, sassy, steamy. Molly Harper is a genius. She takes a few quality ingredients, throws in a dash of Southern charm and whips up a highly entertaining book that is sure to satisfy.
All of the Jane Jameson books are lots of fun. What I call chewing gum for the mind since they are easy to read, no thought needed, just pure, fun, entertainment. The other Half-Moon Hollow books tend to be fun, also
4 stars – It was really good
When Jane Jameson is fired she doesn’t think her day could get any worse, but it does. On her way home she is mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead. She finds herself saved by the stranger she meets at a bar, who apparently is a vampire.
After listening to the Mystic Bayou series on audio and loving it I decided to check out her other series on audio as well. I read this series years ago but didn’t remember anything about it so I figured now would be a good time for a reread. I loved this book. Molly Harper does a wonderful job at writing hilarious and quirky characters. Also Amanda Ronconi has the perfect sarcastic tone for embodying Jane Jameson.
Jane is a smart, sarcastic, ditzy, and wonderful character. She is constantly getting into shenanigans without even trying to. She is struggling to deal with all the changes that come with being a vampire. On top of that she is also struggling with being attracted to the vampire who turned her, Gabriel. While we do get some romantic scenes in this book, the main focus is on Jane dealing with her new lifestyle and trying to discover who is targeting her for being a vampire. I liked that we don’t get a full blown relationship in this first book since this whole series is dedicated to Jane. I really can’t wait to see how their relationship will evolve as the series goes on.
This book does a lot of worldbuilding but I don’t think it distracts from Jane’s story. It was nice to get small introductions of the different kinds of characters in this world, which I hope to explore more in the later books. Also I adored Jane’s friend Zeb. He was just a wonderful friend, also extremely goofy. I loved his girlfriend as well.
Overall, this was a wonderful and hilarious look into the life of Jane Jameson. I can’t wait to start the second book and see what shenanigans she gets into next.
The characterization is spot-on for small towns. This is a fun, easy read. If you haven’t read it, please treat yourself!
Nice Girls Don’t Have Fangs by Molly Harper is a hilariously funny story about a librarian named Jane Jameson. Jane has a really bad day starting with losing her job and ends up in the world as an undead vampire. Without giving away any spoilers, you will find yourself laughing out loud as the Jameson series continues in the author’s newest book. This was a different type read for me and the author is to be commended for including drama, suspense, murder and humor in this very funny story. I rated it a four.
Overall, it was a solid book. Yet… I didn’t find myself reaching for the next one. The voice is fantastic and the vampire lore pretty traditional when stuck in a modern world. Classic start of someone being turned into a vampire to start the series so the reader can learn about the world along with the newly turned vamp. I’m on board for that trope.
The plot finishes up nicely but I didn’t find strong enough tension points to to keep it in my mind or create that must read more feeling.
I love, love, love this series!
I checked this book out from the library on a whim because the title intrigued me. I was laughing out loud at a passage when my daughter came to see what was so funny. She promptly stole the book right out of my hands to read it for herself. I had to wait for her to finish so I could.
We then read the rest of the series. The world Harper built is original, quirky and the people just plain fun.
I love this book and the whole series.
I cracked up from page one and didn’t stop through the entire series. It’s a definite must read.
My Thoughts – 5 out of 5 Unicorns – I loved it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! I bought this audiobook because I liked the narrator and Molly Harper’s humor in her books. I got the first 5 books so far.
This is the 1st book in the series, and it is for adults only due to the steamy content. I really love audiobooks for when you want a book, but don’t want to read.
I love the humor and sarcasm that Molly Harper puts into her stories. The narrator Amanda does a fantastic job bringing out that humor, and she does a great job with different voices for each character.
This book starts with a bang that is hilarious because Jane is mistaken for a deer a shot. Then Gabriel, who was following her to make sure she made it home safely, offers to turn her so that she may live as a vampire. This book is filled with humor that made me laugh. I connected with Jane because she is like me, if it wasn’t for bad luck she’d have no luck. Her adventure in becoming a vampire was fraught with drama with her family, seeing ghosts, figuring out her relationship with her sire, and someone trying to frame her for murder. This book was very entertaining, and I binge listened to it because I just couldn’t stop. I love Gabriel and Zeb and the dog! Molly Harper weaves humor and sarcasm into an awesome story. I can’t wait to read/listen to more of this series!
I highly recommend to any vamp fans who love misadventures packed with humor, sarcasm, and romance whether you are reading or listening!
