What happens when the cute mountain man you made out with in an ice fishing shack turns out to be your brother’s best friend? A whole lot of awkward, that’s what. Maggie’s mind is reeling when she discovers the guy she became tangled up with at Marv’s Bait & Tackle isn’t a stranger like she thought. The big snag: Sam and Maggie’s chemistry is hot enough to melt ice, which makes keeping their … keeping their secret far more difficult than either expected. Especially when one of them decides they want this arrangement to be more than just a catch and release.

I loved this book so much! It was a perfect rom-com! I was drawn to Maggie and Sam. Amy Daws writing is witty and full of awesome one liners that just added to the book! Maggie is coming off heartbreak and Sam has never wanted a relationship. He is hardworking, loyal to his family just a relationship guy. When he and Maggie meet when she wants to find adventure, the laughter and witty characters come out in full force!
All the characters and relationships in the book are the reason I loved it so much. Kate and Miles, Marv and Sam’s family were so well written! I loved how loyal Sam was, I loved how Maggie thinks she knows what she wants at first but then questions herself! The chemistry between Sam and Maggie were off the charts! I love Sam calls Maggie “Sparky” and why he does it! If you need a laugh and to feel good about love- this is the book for you!
Next in Line is an exquisitely funny small town romance. I love the silly fishing jokes and banter between Sam and Maggie. Once I started this book I couldn’t put it down. I’m not even exaggerating when I say that. I spent my entire afternoon attached to my Kindle until I finished every word in Sam and Maggie’s adventurous story. Every new adventure they took, I was cheering them on and I reveled in their undeniable chemistry.
I was even able to catch up with Miles and Kate from Wait with Me and they did not disappoint. Kate was still just as fun and crazy, while Miles has developed some new communication skills that make his bromance with Sam absolutely adorable. They had me ‘awwwing’ more than once.
And I just have to say…Sam is such a sexy ginger. Seriously. After reading the Harris brothers series, Wait with Me, and Next in Line I have decided that if I ever find a magic potion that allows me to create my dream man, I will definitely be hiring Amy Daws as a consult or using my phone-a-friend option because all of her leading men are 15’s on a scale of 1-10.
It took me a hot minute to warm up to Next in Line and it wasn’t just the ice fishing. Sam and Maggie were awkward. Adorably awkward but still, their oddness was endearing as I got to know them more. And I found myself unable to look away from the train wreck in the making.
There was something about Sam and his niceness that had me on his side from the first time I met him. He was just a good guy. The way he stepped up and in to help and defend a stranger. A hot stranger. Who was so out of her element it almost wasn’t funny. But I absolutely admired Maggie for her romantic ideals and spirit and the zest with which she tackled life. And ice fishing and climbing and all of the other adventures she threw herself into.
It didn’t take long for Sam to fall for the fiery woman. Too bad she had her own agenda. And was off limits. The attraction between them burned hot and bright and it was only a matter of time before it exploded. And when it did- holy hotness! Sam and Maggie were electric. But when the dream of Maggie’s past shows up in her present, everything is sent spiraling out of control.
Amy Daws took small-ish town romance and turned it on it’s head with this book. Next in Line was anything but basic. It was a whirlwind of feeling and adventure and sex and unexpected romance. And I enjoyed every random bit of it. Especially Sam and Maggie’s quirkiness. How hard and fast they fell for one another. How they just got each other. How they faced their relationship with honesty. And how they loved each other- fears, faults, fairy tales and all.
“I hope you realize I’m not going to fall for a bearded ginger knight in shining armor type.”
“Oh, I know! And this is called ‘tangerine toughness’ by the way.”
Fresh, fun and flirty! Maggie and Sam will reel you in hook, line and sinker.
4.5 stars
Next In Line by Amy Daws is the second book in her Wait With Me series. It all started with a tire shop and this book takes you a step further and out into the world of Boulder Colorado and all it’s outdoorsy winter adventures such as ice fishing, frozen silo climbing, and snowboarding. Add in a sexy ginger and his best friends little sister and you have the making of an awesomely quirky, slightly angsty and totally sexy romance from one of my favorite must-read authors.
Sam has a process of never dating women. He is a serial one-nighter. When an out-of-place beauty invades his space in line at the bait shop he finds himself stepping outside his comfort zone and taking her ice fishing WITH him. Doesn’t sound weird right, until you learn he NEVER takes ANYONE ice fishing with him. Hmmm, you say, could this be love at first sight?? Alas, no! But there is a definite insta-lust happening.
After being described as basic by her ex, Maggie is determined to make herself as un-basic as she can. It starts with a random stop at a bait shop to go ice fishing for the first time. Completely unequipped and unprepared for the freezing temperatures, she is relieved when Sam steps in and offers to help her. Turns out she really enjoys ice fishing and it only partly has to do with Sam’s company. But she is trying to win back her ex – this annoying attraction to this hot ginger is completely out of the question. Or is it?
Well-paced and well-written with enough appearances of the characters from book 1 to make this enjoyable as a series but also able to be a standalone this was an awesome read which I thoroughly enjoyed! Hope you do to!
Absolutely love this book!!! Daws truly knows how to write those reads that you cannot put down. She has a way of creating characters that really come to life, as you read the story. I loved the main characters and really enjoyed getting to know them are living the story vicariously through them. Mmm…definitely a story I don’t mind living, with a main bloke who is as steamy as he is!
The book is paced really well, giving you time to really take in the story and then throwing you headlong into the excitement, like when you get a bite on your line and rush and struggle to reel in what could be the biggest catch of your life…pardon the fishing analogy, but this is a hook line and sinker of a book 😉
The depth and detail are superb and really put this read above and beyond those I have read this year. It is definitely a book you can see yourself picking up again, as you are just pulled right into the brilliant detail and world-building of Amy’s. I was so submerged into the world that I had to read the book well into the wee hours of the morning, because I had to know how their story went.
Overall, absolutely stunning read. I loved every page and am reminded, once again, why Daws is one of my favourite authors of all time. She is excellent and the book is brilliant!
So much fun. Sam, you adorable bearded ginger, I like you. Maggie was cute with her horrible fishing jokes and rambling. That girl was trying to be someone she wasn’t but Sam swooped in and showed her that all she needed to be was herself. There two together were really entertaining. It was great to be back at the Tire Depot
I laughed and swooned and laughed some more and then my panties melted! What a terrific follow up to Wait With Me. The ginger-haired sidekick to Miles is more swoon-worthy than I thought he would be. Who knew? There’s more to Sam than just his smarts. I loved him! And he’s met his match in Maggie. She feisty and determined and she’s perfect for Sam even if they both deny the hot chemistry they share. Her crappy ex has her shying away from romance and Sam’s past has him leery. But these two sizzle and deserve to be together. But can Maggie overcome her ex to get to her true feelings for Sam? Will Sam win his girl? This is a marvelous feel-good rom com from one of my favorite authors. The writing is beautiful and funny and soooo sexy. I’m sold hook, line and sinker! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.
Only Amy Daws could open a quirky romance in a Bait and Tackle Shop and deliver it hook, line and sinker!
This infectiously funny author’s words play out like a movie in your head; the characters are so real they feel familiar, the imagery so vivid you can almost smell the fish, and the feelings so heart-warmingly tangible, you can’t help but catch yourself smiling, growling and swooning and ultimately falling in love.
We return to Boulder and the Tyre Depot with this story, but this time it is Miles’s best buddy Sam, and his sister Maggie who are “Next In Line” for love.
At first, the connection isn’t made, and Maggie is just grateful for Sam’s assistance in her quest to make herself less “Basic” after her boyfriend dumps her, by seeking out adventurous pursuits in an effort to win him back. And it doesn’t hurt that the help she’s enlisted is a hot ginger-headed mountain man!
Maggie is as determined as she is naive, and though at times she is a little annoying in her immaturity, with every experience she becomes stronger in her self belief and as her own fairytale ice castle ideal starts to crumble, so too does she start to melt Sam’s frosty view of relationships.
Sam is a wonderful character and a gorgeous hunk of man! Driven, protective, loyal and devoted to his family; he is the perfect book boyfriend even with his jaded view of commitment.
Regardless of the age gap, their chemistry was palpable and Sam had the patience and dedication that offset Maggie’s immaturity, and yet her youthful approach complemented and lightened his previous serious demeanour beautifully.
Despite it being a little slow to get off the ground and the issue of lying being a little lightly handled particularly given Miles’s previous experiences in the first book, this is altogether an enjoyable light hearted fast read and definitely worth taking the bait!
Who knew a bait shop could lead to love?
Boulder, Colorado is bringing us more nummy goodness! Sam, Miles’ friend, from Wait With Me, meets and is drawn to Maggie at a local bait shop when she decides ice fishing is an adventure she wants to have. They have instant chemistry, even though Maggie is stubbornly trying to prove to her ex that she’s not basic. Sam becomes her guide. He’s also her brother’s best friend, so that puts a little hitch in things. Sam doesn’t do relationships but he finds himself changing for this crazy girl who believes in fairytales. All the feels, funnies, & passion you expect from Amy. Sam is one delicious ginger! Love, love, love!!
This is Sam’s story, best friend of Miles and I quite enjoyed reading it. Even though you could read it as a standalone, I think you’ll enjoy the story even more when you read the first one first.
Sam is trying to make the business grow even more and is truly focused on that. When he goes ice fishing, he meets Maggie who’s out and about it in the world trying to mend a broken heart. They instantly hit it off and have a great chemistry but Maggie is trying to keep her distance even though she’s enjoying his company. When on a night out he finds out that she’s his best friends sister, things really get out of hand but sometimes you just can’t escape love and feelings start to show. But will Maggie be able to let go of the past and focus on the future more?…
4.5 Hook, Line & Sinker Stars!
I was completely captivated by Sam and Maggie’s forbidden love story right from their very first hilarious and awkward meet cute. Maggie is on the road to win back her college sweetheart after he broke up with her because she is too basic. She has played it safe her whole life, not taking change well. Now she is breaking all her rules trying new and crazy things. Sam is instantly attracted to her innocent idealism and offers to help her win back her ex. Sam doesn’t like commitment, but this smart, sweet, and hilarious woman is electrifying his life, and making him break all his rules as well. The more this sweet and sexy Sam helps her, the more she realizes she may want what is right in front of her. No matter how hard they fight their attraction, they have too much fun together, and their chemistry is too explosive to stay away. I loved all the fun experiences they had together. I really enjoyed watching Maggie discover herself as she brings out Sam’s sexy, inner cave man. It was also a lot of fun catching up with Kate and Miles, who I absolutely loved from the first book. Ms Daws created another refreshing, hilarious & heartfelt story with fascinating characters, witty banter, and steamy passion. I am loving this series and hope for more from these sexy men at Tire Depot!
I really liked Sam & Maggie! They have amazing chemistry- even though they aren’t supposed to. Sam’s best friend is Maggie’s older brother – and he’d kill them both if he knew about them. Maggie doesn’t want to think of Sam like that anyway. She’s so determined to win back her douchebag ex-boyfriend (who dumped her on Christmas!) by showing him she can be more adventurous. She’s set her ‘life plan’ in stone and it has her ex being the co-star, definitely not Sam.
Yet these two are so hot! I have no idea how they don’t melt every ice and snow activity they do in the freezing Colorado winter.
I loved this book! It’s a great follow-up to Wait With Me!
NO SPOILERS!
Next In Line was a funny, sexy, swoony, and entertaining standalone romantic comedy in the Wait With Me series, and I absolutely loved it! The storyline and characters Amy Daws created were wonderful, and I loved her writing style and sense of humor. Amy’s stories have never ceased to make me laugh and swoon, and Next In Line was no exception.
The storyline was unexpected in a lot of ways, but no less amazing and entertaining. Amy Daws created a fun, sexy, and swoon-worthy plot that had all of the feels, humor, and romance I wanted and so much more. The story was actually more heartfelt and emotional than I expected, but I loved all of it so much. There were a few aspects that I didn’t particularly care for, but it wasn’t anything major that prevented me from loving the book any less. Amy Daws definitely has an incredible storytelling talent, and I can’t wait to read more from her!
The characters were excellent. Sam and Maggie were so much better than I hoped and imagined they would be, and I absolutely loved them and their story. Sam and Maggie were a unique and quirky yet perfect pair. I loved their personalities and smoking hot chemistry together, and how their friendship/relationship progressed throughout. I also loved reading the book from both Sam and Maggie’s point of view, and all of their banter and interactions with each other. The secondary characters were a fun and entertaining addition to the story, and I enjoyed seeing a few familiar faces again. Sam and Maggie’s story was wonderful from beginning to end, and I was extremely happy with the conclusion.
Next In Line was a fun, sexy, swoon-worthy, and entertaining standalone bait shop romcom, and I would HIGHLY recommend it! Amy Daws did a fantastic job with Sam and Maggie’s story, and I can’t wait to devour more from her, especially the next standalone in the Wait With Me series!
Cute, funny, sweet, sexy! I loved this book so hard and ate it up like candy! And the fishermen jokes were hilarious!
Rating: 4.5 Stars
Sam is our eyes as this story begins. He lets us in on the goings on where he is. He does a pretty good job in the flirtation department. If the beginning is anything to go by, Megan “Maggie” Hudson is going to make us laugh a lot. Our author does a great job in creating situations where you have no choice but to laugh at Maggie’s expense.
Because I don’t want to keep repeating myself, and having you say “yea, yea, yea”; this is going to be a laughfest from start to finish. And surprise, men can gossip too – and Maggie’s brother is involved. As the story progressed I came to like Sam more than Maggie. You want to yell at her to either get with the program or leave Sam alone. He wants to give her plenty of adventures but she has a certain goal/agenda in mind. There are scenes that will give us plenty of heat and since my neck of the woods has some snow it may help in melting some of it.
One thing that kept happening for me was that I stopped paying attention to the titles the author included for each chapter. I found myself more interested in who was telling us their side of the story. Eventually it dawned on me that this was what I was doing and I tried to see what the title was but then I went back to seeing if it was Sam or Maggie’s point of view that I was going to read. I think some of that was due to the fact that I was so into the story and how things were going to be for Sam. The ending had me giggle a little but the best part is it was happy.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
Who knew you could find such sexiness in a bait shop of all places?
Oh my Sam… I couldn’t even get out of chapter one before falling in love with this guy. He’s definitely swoony book boyfriend material. He’s sexy, charming, funny, and an outdoorsy kind of guy, but he’s got this sweeter, more gentle side to him too that you’ll melt over.
Maggie’s a mess, but in the best way. She might come off a bit overambitious but the girl has spirit that won’t be rivaled. She’s funny and outgoing, but also a bit shy and naive. And her determination is sometimes comical.
This story is quirky and fun, and will have you reading with a dopey grin on your face 95% of the time. I love these two characters and I loved revisiting some old ones too. This book is just as great as the first one!
A follow up to Wait With Me, you don’t need to have read the first book to enjoy this. Miles and Kate both have supporting roles here though—man, they crack me up!—which should please existing fans.
As a native Minnesotan, I’m familiar with ice fishing so I had to laugh at Maggie as she gets her first taste. In fact, I was pretty much grinning ear to ear for the entire read. I had to admire Maggie for her determination to go after her goals, whether that’s to prove something to her ex or deciding if she wants a fling with Sam. She did try my patience a bit as she was so hung up on the dream she’d built up of life with her ex that she took a while to see the possibilities in front of her.
Sam is a really good guy; I loved how sweet and caring he was, first with his family and later with Maggie, and can I just say how much I enjoyed reading about a guy who ISN’t a raging a-hole most of the time, lol? Yes, he’s determined to avoid relationships, but he’s also concerned about doing the right thing as he’s worried about the age difference he has with Maggie, and, oh yeah, the best friend’s little sister thing.
A catch you don’t want to miss out on, this is a hot, sweet and flirty rom com that was all out fun to read. 5+ stars

Amy Daws has done it again! Next in Line is sweet, sexy, funny, and just all out terrific! Male lead Sam is your guy next door, but with a sexy edge. And he’s genuine. What you see is what you get. Sam is all about loving other people. Maggie? She’s smart, stubborn, and she totally has her head in the clouds. They meet in a bait shop where Sam defends her honor. Maggie is running away from her problems. Whose boyfriend breaks up with them on Christmas morning?! While Sam tries to show her what a prick Sterling is, Maggie is having the adventure of her life. What happens when Sam finds out Maggie is his best friend’s sister? You have to read this super sexy and humorous book! 5 stars for Next in Line!
Who’d have ever thought to find their soulmate while waiting in a queue? Not many people, I shouldn’t imagine. And in a bait and tackle shop no less!!
But, that’s exactly what commitment-shy Sam and rebounding Maggie do. It’s not love at first sight, but it sure as heck is all out alpha defense mode. For Sam at least.
We met ginger-haired Sam in Wait With Me and I couldn’t be happier to have his story be next in line. Get it??? LOL
Sam’s fun, sporty, sexy and likes to play the field. Until he meets a young woman in Marv’s Bait shop. He ends up knocking a guy out for her, taking her ice fishing and from there it’s one adventure after another.
The fun almost comes to an end when they find out that Maggie’s brother is Sam’s best friend and employee. Not the perfect scenario.
But, these two are made of sterner stuff and even though they got together initially to help Maggie prove to her ex-boyfriend, Sterling that she wasn’t just a ‘basic’ girl. It quickly becomes so much more.
The chemistry between Sam and Maggie is intense, their sexy banter and cute chats have all the hallmarks of a Hollywood movie. Sam takes his time reaching the truth but when he bares his soul, it leaves Maggie wondering what to do.
Is the fairytale with her ex what she really wants, or does she want the man who sees her for all she is.
Sam’s declaration was swoon-worthy and I did feel for Maggie. She was conflicted because she’d put Sterling up on a pedestal and he was totally not worthy of it.
I loved this story from start to finish. It was quick, fun and quirky read with a little bit of angst, some seriously hot sexy times and a fantastic story overall. I highly recommend it for your weekend entertainment.
