What happens when the cute mountain man you made out with in an ice fishing shack turns out to be your brother’s best friend? A whole lot of awkward, that’s what. Maggie’s mind is reeling when she discovers the guy she became tangled up with at Marv’s Bait & Tackle isn’t a stranger like she thought. The big snag: Sam and Maggie’s chemistry is hot enough to melt ice, which makes keeping their … keeping their secret far more difficult than either expected. Especially when one of them decides they want this arrangement to be more than just a catch and release.

A fantastic listen! Narration was perfect. I absolutely loved this story and all the fishing analogies. Sam and Maggie’s banter is off the charts hilarious and hot!! Their chemistry sizzles. This brother’s best friend/forbidden story will bait you from the start and hook you until the end. A must listen!
Sam has his family, and his business, and his best friend Miles. He’s a pretty solitary guy, and isn’t interested in a relationship. But when he comes to the rescue of a “damsel in distress” in his favorite bait shop, his life changes in a way he didn’t expect.
Maggie is at a bit of a crossroads in her life, (which I can relate to). She thought her life was going in one direction and suddenly she’s looking at a very different future than she expected. She decides to go on a bit of a voyage of self-discovery, and gets more than she bargains for.
Next in Line was my first Amy Daws book, and pardon the fish pun, but I am hooked! It’s a Best Friend’s Little Sister story, but there’s so much more to it than a simple trope. First of all, ice fishing! Have you read a book whose opening scene takes place in a Bait & Tackle shop? Because I haven’t! Secondly, the couple in question, Maggie and Sam, does not know they have a common interest until chapter 5. Third and finally, Maggie’s main goal throughout most of the book is getting her ex-boyfriend back! Of course, things turn out much differently than she expects and we are all better off for it.
Thanks to the author for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Maggie’s in hiding after having her life plans ruined by her boyfriend, when he dumps her on Christmas morning because she’s too basic. Determined to win him back so she can live the fairy tale life she was planning, she heads to Colorado to visit her brother. Keeping the breakup quiet, Maggie’s plan includes trying all of the most adventurous activities she can find, which brings her to Marv’s Bait and Tackle. Completely unprepared for ice fishing, Sam ends up offering to take her out with him when Marv refuses to sell her bait. Deciding that a fling might be good for her, and that’s all Sam’s interested in anyway, Maggie and Sam stop ignoring the chemistry between them. What they don’t know is that Sam is Maggie’s brother’s best friend, essentially making them off limits to each other, not to mention the fact that Maggie’s brother still doesn’t know that her boyfriend dumped her. When Maggie’s ex unexpectedly shows up in town wanting to get back together with her, all of the secrets about her and Sam come spilling out, and they’re both forced to face the feelings they didn’t realize were developing.
While this is technically the second of the series, you don’t need to read Wait With Me to follow the events in this book (although the background information about Kate and Miles adds to this story). I loved Maggie’s adventurous side, even if initially it was for the wrong reason, but who hasn’t made stupid decisions in the name of love or heartbreak. Sam was sweet and patient while teaching Maggie to ice fish, and has just the right amount of possessiveness. They had great chemistry and a lot of funny banter. This is a light, funny, sweet story. I really enjoyed this book and definitely recommend it.
I am a huge fan of Amy Daws. She won me over with those Harris brothers and has continued to WOW me!
Next in Line gives us the story of Maggie and Sam. Maggie is, well, next in line at the Bait shop. And she stands out like a sore thumb.
Sam is in that same line, but a bit further back. While he may appreciate the view, he’s still a gentleman.
What is one of the cutest meet-cutes ever, Sam and Maggie begin a journey neither expected.
Next in Line is fun, steamy, light-hearted, brother’s best friend, best friend’s sister romance. If this is your jam, well, you really need this audio.
And Teddy Hamilton. Do I really need to elaborate? I think that man could narrate the ingredients list on my cereal box and I’d listen to it. And not only would I listen to it, I would PAY to listen to it. So, yeah. Teddy. I think this was the third audio I listened to in a row that had him as the male lead. It’s a real problem.
You can never say enough about Erin Mallon. Hands down, one of my top five female narrators. I love her as Maggie.
Excellent casting, excellent characters, great story!
Absolutely loved this! Full of wit and charm! Sam was amazing and I swooned so hard over him. I absolutely loved still seeing more of Miles and Kate. This book was pure perfection and the audio was amazing as well!
Audiobook Version:
Amy Daws never fails to deliver! She packs humor into every situation. I laugh soo much in her books that I have a side ache. Next in Line was no different. I absolutely loved the chemistry and dynamic between the characters. I also loved that we got to enjoy Myles and Kate in this as well. I love the world she has created here. Fantastic read and well worth a credit.
Narration is crazy good! Erin Mallon and Teddy Hamilton Blow me away. They own these roles and never look back! I would listen to Erin Mallon all day long. You can never go wrong with these two!
AudiobookObsession
Great book! I absolutely loved listening to these two and the way they began. A little instant attraction but definitely a slow burn at the same time. Maggie drove me nuts at time because she wasn’t willing to see what’s right in front of her, but she is easy to fall in love with as well. The characters were so well written in this book and narration was absolutely fantastic.

You out did yourself girl !! I loved loved loved it !! I can’t wait for more !!
This is a perfect example of why you one one of my favorite one click authors !!!
Usually I don’t read much of the best friends sister romance troupe but Amy Daws really made a great story. Sam and Sparky had a great “spark” that came through in the story and with the fantastic narrators. It was funny, cute and full of steam. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole book and am anxious to read more of Daws work!
I thought this book was so cute! Sam is the sweetest guy. He has made it his mission to take care of his family. He has a business plan and plans to take over his uncle tire shop and love or long term relationships are no where in the plan. Then you have Maggie, she just was dumped. She has her life planned out and she needs to win her ex back for it to happen. Sam has agreed to help her with her plan. Through their journey the find they are kindred spirits and begin to develop feelings for each other. I loved watching the story unfolded. I loved that Sam is a ginger, makes me think of Prince Harry. Easy read. Great feelings all the way through.

A Brother’s Best Friend Standalone
By: Amy Daws
Narrated by: Erin Mallon, Teddy Hamilton
Consider me wowed, I loved this book from the start to the very end. It is well written, the storylines and characters are interesting and greatly developed. This is my first Amy Daws’ book, I am not sure why or how but I am an overnight fan. “Next in Line” is the 2nd book in the “Wait With Me” series, I enjoyed it as a standalone. I did not feel lost or like I was missing something. The lead characters, Sam and Maggie were both awesome. I loved the chemistry between them too, it was smoking hot!! I enjoyed the secondary characters as well, Miles & Kate from the 1st book, Miles works for Sam and is Maggies big brother. Also liked Marv, he was a hoot. A lot is offered in their story, humor, drama, angst and romance. Love the fishing puns too. Amy Daws , thank you for this wonderful, enjoyable story.
I listened to the Audible edition and the narrators, Erin Mallon & Teddy Hamilton are wonderful storytellers and voice performers. They bring the characters to life from the pages to your ears!
5 Star Review Next in Line (Wait With Me #2) by Amy Daws
Audio Review:
Amy Daws characters are captivating and the performances by Erin Mallon and Teddy Hamilton absolutely brought the story to life.
I was riveted from the first chapter and really didn’t want Next in Line to end.
I fell in love with all the characters and cannot wait to listen to the next book.
Loved it.
Wait with Me Book Two
Maggie is shocked when Sam decides to help her out with a plan to win back her ex. Sam can’t believe this beautiful, smart girl is doing crazy things to impress a guy who sounds like a jerk. However, they find a chemistry that burns brightly, even while ice fishing. When they find out that Maggie’s brother is Sam’s best friend, though, they both freak out. Can they overcome that obstacle to their relationship, or will Maggie’s ex decide she’s worth it?
If you’re looking for a book with tons of shock and awe, this is the story for you!
After reading Wait With Me, I wrote to Amy and told her how much I enjoyed it and would love a follow up book. Well me and about a thousand others…and here it is!
Sam, our hero in Next in Line, is friends and co-workers with Miles, the hero in Wait With Me. Maggie, our heroine is younger sister to Miles, and was such a joy to read! She spent the beginning of the book pining for her ex whom we as readers knew wasn’t the right man for her. Amy writes each scene so expertly and fluently that you feel as if you are there. There are so many fun moments where I was laughing out loud and waiting to see what she would say or do next.
Sam is the perfect man. He’s patient, hardworking, loves a challenge, willing to do what he can to make her smile, make her feel comfortable, and shine! His goal is to make her see what he sees, an energetic adventurous woman who deserves the moon and starts. He was devoted to his family and friends and those who worked at Tire Depot, but he had commitment issues and didn’t believe he could make her happy.
There were so many swoony and sexy moments in this book and not all had to deal with intimacy. Many were the times they were there getting to know one another, becoming friends first who were there to support and encourage one another. Maggie is much younger that Sam and a bit immature at times, but I admired how she grew and figured out what she wanted in life. She was not one of my favorite book heroines because she wasn’t upfront and honest with her brother, and how she dealt with her ex. I did love reading the parts when her brother and Kate would appear and how the next book has a wedding in it!
I have never been to Boulder and really enjoyed reading about the climate there and the outdoor adventures. It was a unique storyline for sure and I liked the Miles was supportive when they told him they were a couple. The back and forth banter was always a hoot and I especially loved all the fishing humor and puns that were mentioned in almost every chapter. Well done Amy!
What I love about Amy Daws’s writing is that she not only comes up with creative and entertaining scenes, she makes every single one of them count in her tightly written stories. Next In Line is a crazy ride-along of fun, shenanigans, and goofy, silly jokes with Sam and Maggie. It’s also a heartwarming, romantic, full of feels love story that had me alternately clutching my heart, sighing, and laughing out loud.
Maggie is determined to get her ex back by reinventing herself from “basic” into “adventurous”, and she’s going all out with the help of the hot, ginger-bearded ice fisherman she runs into on day one of her project. Sam is the perfect guy to teach her the ropes. And snowboarding, silo ice climbing, and ice fishing. Too bad he’s her big brother’s best friend who absolutely does not do relationships.
Five starry-eyed, swoony, hot hot hot, stars to Next In Line.
Love can be awkward, but lust can be divine. Next in Line takes an awkward situation and makes it into a temptation of a romance. Sam and Maggie are a combination of playful and forbidden. Mallon and Hamilton bring a wicked kind of fun to an already sensual tango of love. Daws pens a flirty, often times dirty but always entertaining, sassy romance.
What do you do when you expect a proposal Christmas morning and get dumped instead… you go Ice Fishing or try to. When complications come up and the man you are fastly becoming attracted to happens to be your brothers best friend. Maggie doesn’t want to make waves with her family so she hasn’t told them that her boyfriend Sterling is really her ex and she is trying to impress him to taking her back. She enlists Sam’s help but vows him to secrecy. When her lies come unraveled what will Maggie do? The chemistry between Maggie and Sam jumped off the page from word one. I loved their quirky story and hated Sterling. I have to say I loved Kate and Miles coming into the picture because I loved their story as well. This is definitely a must read romance. This is a standalone however you don’t want to miss Kate and Miles story from the first book Wait With Me.
Maggie just wanted to s†op bing bland…..then she met Sam.
Next In Line is one of those romance books that gives you all you want, need and so much more. The witty remarks, the fishing puns and the things that one person will go to achieve a fairytale ending. An accidental meeting on a trip of self discovery turns out to be something more than just a basic meeting. Hooks were baited, lines were dropped, tales were told but the biggest snag of all was what could have them wading in icy water. A brother’s best friend romance that will have you laughing, on the edge of your seat and sitting not so patiently waiting for these two to realize that sometimes fairytales aren’t like a storybook, sometimes they are unique to you. Sam and Maggie’s story is hot and steamy and you know you can always judge a great fisherman by the size of his rod. A huge five star read that will leave you with a huge grin on your face and that is no exaggeration.
Fisherwoman extraordinaire
It really takes a great author to make me care about ice fishing. I don’t know how or when it happened, but I cared deeply about it by the end of the book. How fun was that? Sam and Maggie are two of the most endearing characters, I loved them both! I wish them many fishy adventures!
