What happens when the cute mountain man you made out with in an ice fishing shack turns out to be your brother’s best friend? A whole lot of awkward, that’s what. Maggie’s mind is reeling when she discovers the guy she became tangled up with at Marv’s Bait & Tackle isn’t a stranger like she thought. The big snag: Sam and Maggie’s chemistry is hot enough to melt ice, which makes keeping their … keeping their secret far more difficult than either expected. Especially when one of them decides they want this arrangement to be more than just a catch and release.

As always Amy pens a hilarious read that still tugs at the heartstrings!! So so good!
Favorite Quotes:
An older gentleman shoulders past me with his clear plastic tub, ready to collect his bait as though it’s the body of Christ being passed out by the pope himself. Several other men press up against my back, all anxiously awaiting their turn because finally…ice fishing season has begun.
Girls…my darling grandchildren clearly don’t need to watch you two have a catfight, so please, sit down and eat your feelings like normal mothers.
Why not make him your last fling before the ring?
The guy has zero sexual chemistry. He’s like an amoeba or something. Aren’t those the single cell animals that just have sex with themselves?
I keep thinking about what Maggie would be rambling about if she were out here. She’d probably ask about when fish sleep, and where they sleep, and if they sleep with their families, or if they’re just swimming along and all of a sudden blackout only to wake up the next day and discover they’ve lost their entire family.
“I was getting bait for a guy in here the other day, and he said I looked like a great master baiter. I said, I’ve only been working here a couple of months, and I didn’t even know being a master baiter was a thing.”… Marv’s face twists up in confusion. “I’ve heard of Promaster fishermen. But not master baiters. Surely, I’m a master baiter. I’ve been doing it my whole life.”… “You’re clearly a great master baiter,” Maggie replies with wide eyes. “But I wonder how much practice it’ll take for me to become one?”
My Review:
I quickly fell into the vortex of this smartly written and brightly amusing tale and was instantly besotted with the quirky and endearing characters. I smirked and giggle-snorted my way through this delightfully humorous story. I savored each and every perfectly chosen and magically arranged word, although they were most often this side of naughty with frequent f-bombs since it is surely a well-known fact that the highly talented scribbler known as Amy Daws brings the heat of a Scottish Bonnet pepper and clearly excels at cleverly bawdy humor. I want all her lovely words and had a difficult time paring my favorite quotes down to the massive list I included in this review due to the fact that I had highlighted several reams worth of her witty levity. Wait With Me and Next In Line were two of my favorite reads of the year, so it seems quite fitting that I close out 2018 with this rave review.
An unexpected meeting in a bait shop turns into a whirlwind romance. Next in Line was witty, sassy, funny, and sexy! Add in forbidden and age-gap to the mix and things were bound to get scandalous
Sam! I was drawn and completely intrigued by the bearded ginger since meeting him in Wait With Me and he did not disappoint. He’s 31 and will be taking over his uncle Terry’s tire shop soon. You could say he’s a little bit jaded when it comes to love and relationships, so you can only imagine how completely taken back he is by Maggie this 22 year-old spitfire.
Maggie is a college graduate seeking adventure and purpose in her life. She went through a bad break up that’s made her doubt herself and how amazing she could be. I did find myself annoyed with her at times and wanted to shake some sense into her.
Sam and Maggie embark on many adventures together and soon the instant chemistry turns into so much more! It was fun watching them interact and seeing how Maggie would look at the world through Sam’s eyes. One thing I did not agree with was how they handled the situation with Miles finding out. Just tell the truth people!!
Next in Line was a great romcom filled with laughs and sweet moments! Amy Daws proves once again how badass she is and I’m excited for the next book!
What do Miles’ sister, Maggie, and his best friend Sam , the new owner of TIRE DEPOT, have in common? Ice fishing. Snappy dialogue, hilarious situations and two people who don’t trust easily, work their way through the ups and downs to love.
Very much a laugh out loud book. Really!!!
Wow! I loved it! Sam and Maggie’s story is cute, sweet, steamy, hilarious, and perfect. I also loved to see Miles and Kate, from Wait for Me! I totally recommend both books! The narration was really great. Erin Mallon and Teddy Hamilton did an amazing job with the narration. I love their voices!! I received this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily written this review.
I was way overdue to pop my Amy Daws cherry, and man did this deliver! Laugh out loud swoony goodness a plenty, this book was fantastic!
Man, did Maggie crack me up. She was definitely an “unhinged romantic”! I loved Sam! This just misses 5 stars from me for 2 reasons. Miles seemed to be a different person in this book. I don’t remember him being so goofy. And Maggie’s insistence on Sterling being her “true love”, yet having no issues with fooling around with Sam bothered me. No, it was not cheating. But if Sterling was the man she was supposed to be with, why was it so easy for her to be with Sam?? She should have realized sooner that she was holding onto something not real with Sterling.
I might not be the biggest fan of Maggie but I’m definitely a fan of Samgie. Okay, well, that’s a terrible relationship name but still. Maggie’s singularly focus dedication has me wanting to shake her until the ice silos melt.
Next In Line is adorable, sexy, and sweet. It’s also ridiculous with its puns and had me laughing out loud. It’s definitely a feel good read. No way you can finish this book without giggling and a stupid grin plastered on your face.
This was just the read I needed: a sweet, loveable escape with just enough drama to keep me engaged. This is an a fantastic siblings best friend romance that had me swooning and laughing. Erin Mallon & Teddy Hamilton do an amazing job portraying the characters, bringing them to life and humanizing them with their emotions, attitude and personality. They do more than giving their characters their voices, they fall into the roles and become the character.
Audio Review from Feb 2019
Amy knocked it out of the ballpark with this one!
The characters are both stubborn and funny! She is young and naive about what she really wants out of life and love until she and Sam start hanging out and then the sparks fly and love blooms!!
I loved it! I laughed my a$$ off at the master baiter scene!! Ahhh!!
Erin Mallon, Teddy Hamilton narrate this one
Another fun book in this series. I absolutely loved following Maggie and Sam’s journey. So many beautiful, swoony, laugh out loud and steamy moments.
OMG! Next in Line is such a fun story and a wonderful addition to the Wait with Me series! It is the perfect combination of fantastic characters, witty banter, and a storyline that will keep you smiling from beginning to the end.
Sam and Maggie had me at their first encounter. She is strong, sassy and determined and will eventually break down the walls that Sam has built up around him. Sam is a sweet guy with a big heart but he always seems to hold back until a feisty girl named Maggie shows up in his life. Little did either of them know but they have something in common and his name is Miles!
I had the added pleasure of listening to the audio version of this story and the narrators did an amazing job!
Can’t get enough of Amy Daws books and I loved Sam and Maggie’s story. I couldn’t put it down once I started. I loved watching their friendship grow throughout the book and they had great chemistry. Teddy Hamilton and Erin Mallon did an amazing job with the narration. Looking forward to the next one in this series.
Maggie made out with a cute mountain man in an ice-fishing shack. It turns out he is her brother’s best friend and sort of boss, Sam. Their chemistry is hot enough to melt ice, and Sam’s passion for life might be just what Maggie needs to heal her broken heart. Keeping their carefree arrangement, a secret is far more difficult than either expected. That is especially true when one of them decides they want more. – The adventures Maggie and Sam enjoyed are fun. Sam is loyal, patient and kind. Maggie is funny, stubborn and spontaneous. They are a good match. This is a wonderful romance.
An amazingly captivating, entertaining, and heartwarming story. Sam and Maggie are Perfect, their chemistry is palpable. I was rooting for them the entire time.
Let me start by saying I love Amy’s writing. I loved the first book in this series of stand alone books. This one took me a long time to get into. I absolutely loved Sam. He was awesome. Maggie on the other hand I wanted to slap so many times in this book. I just wanted to shake her and tell her to get a clue. She had this plan to get her ex back who she definitely should not have been with. She was so focused on winning him back that she couldn’t see what was right in front of her. Yes Sam had his faults with not wanting a relationship but you could tell when he seemed like he would finally be open to one only to be reminded over and over again that Maggie was trying to win her ex back. She was just childish at times and I just wanted her to wake tf up. Drove me nuts. So while I loved the story and Sam and when Maggie finally removed her head out of her a$$. This was just ok overall for me. I do look forward to reading the next book though.
I really enjoyed this audio book. I think my rating was upped because of the awesome narrations by Erin Mallon and Teddy Hamilton.
This is a brother’s best friend trope, with the usual basis of, “Oh, no! He’ll kill me if he knows I want his little sister!” What was unusual about the story and caused many to not like it was that the heroine was trying to get back a man who had dumped her on Christmas morning and walked out. The steps she was taking to try to get him to take her back were pretty pathetic, but let’s be realistic. There are a lot of women out there that would try just as hard to win back a loser boyfriend.
I loved the funnies in the story and there were a lot of them. Also, Sam was relationship shy, but very alpha. He was really yummy!
Overall, I really, really liked this audio book.
Amy Daws has a way of taking the weirdest situation and centering a book around it. In this laugh-out-loud romantic comedy, the leading lady falls in love with the leading man while ice fishing. The description of the bait shop was hilarious, too.
This is a little bit forbidden romance and a little bit friends to lovers. City girl meets mountain man. There is plenty of humor, as Maggie, a young women passing through town tries to expand her horizon by becoming more adventurous. Not for herself, but to try to win back her ex. Enter, Sam. Outdoorsman extraordinaire. Offering to help her with her first attempt at ice fishing, he gets more than he bargained for. She’s a bit of a firecracker. Giving as good as she gets. She also has a high regard of romance and all the things love, which is why she’s trying so hard to prove to her ex that he’s wrong about her, and she not willing to give up so easily. Sam is not into romance at all. It isn’t so much he doesn’t believe in love, but he feels he isn’t meant to love or to be in a committed relationship, which is why this whole thing with helping Maggie, despite the physical attraction, was an easy ‘yes.’ Of course, you know what they say about the best laid plans. In addition to the laughs, there are some aggravating/angsty moments, as well as some sentimental scenes. It’s a good fun, and mostly light-hearted read. It’s a well told story that is easy to read and the story flows nicely. It alternates between POVs. There is some sexual content, that may be considered suitable for mature readers.
Delicious and delightful! Lots of romance and plenty of comedy in this well balanced rom-com spiced with a little angst and a couple tears. Perfect for anyone who likes a rugged, flannel-wearing hero with a big heart.
