Can a dog heal two wounded souls? Newly single Kerry Williams is at her wit’s end. She’s juggling her injured father’s care, a new job as the manager of a hip new restaurant and her therapy dog Willow volunteering at the Veteran’s Center — all while struggling to rise above her humiliating heartbreak. When her father’s caretaker fails to show one evening, she’s terrified she’ll lose her job. And … lose her job. And then Willow runs away. Panicked, Kerry gives chase and immediately runs smack into a tall, dark and sexy wall of muscle, palming a squirming bundle of fur. Her new hero seems like an answer to her prayers.
The last thing K-9 officer Caleb Bradshaw wants, is to babysit his neighbor’s father and her dog. He’s facing a potential career-ending injury and grieving the death of his working partner, Trigger. Sure he can handle a cranky old man, but the quiet comfort of Willow who follows him around with liquid-eyed sympathy tugs at the heart he’s trying to keep walled-off after his many painful losses.
Kerry knows Willow can ease Caleb’s grief, but he continues to push her away. Even though her life is in shambles and she too should walk, Kerry knows she can’t and won’t. Will Caleb accept her help or will he close himself off completely?

There is just something about military stories…they always hit me right in the heart. This is the first book for me by this author and so glad it won’t be the last! Next Door Knight is a super cute story and is the second in the Man’s Best Friend series. Next Door Knight can be read as a stand-alone, as I had no idea there was one before this. Flockton has a writing style that kept me entertained, enthralled and completely charmed.
“Changing your whole life is a big decision to make. Thinking that’s what you want to do isn’t the way to go. You have to want it. You have to know” —she placed her hand over his heart— “deep in here, that what you’re doing is what’s best for you. Your mind will convince you that you should do. But your heart will let you know if it’s the right decision.”
The human characters were easy to read about and easy to fall for. The fur characters were just as much fun to read about.
This is a story that is definitely one worth reading.
Next Door Knight is the first book I’ve read in Nicole Flockton’s Man’s Best Friend Series. I wouldn’t categorize myself as a dog lover but there was something about this story that was really appealing.
Next Door Knight is a sweet, light hearted read with characters that will steal your heart.
I felt like the story was well written and easy to follow with great character development and several moments that made me smile.
I would definitely be open to reading more in this series and more work from Nicole Flockton in general.
Next Door Knight (Man’s Best Friend Book 2) by Nicole Flockton. I LOVE these books. I’m a huge dog lover so anytime a furry friend is involved I’m all in. This is the story of Kerry Williams who is overwhelmed to say the least. She is starting a new job, taking care of her injured father and volunteering her therapy dog at the Veterans Center, all while dealing with a major heartbreak. One day her father’s caretaker doesn’t show up and Willow runs off, as Kerry runs after Willow she runs smack dab into her K9 Officer neighbor who has Willow. Caleb Bradshaw is dealing with heartache of his own as he just recently lost his K9 partner Trigger. He pushes Willow away but Willow keeps trying to get to Caleb like she knows he needs her. Kerry knows she should stay out of it and leave Caleb alone but she can’t. Will Caleb let his heart heal allowing Willow to help? Read this sweet story to find out.
I really enjoyed this novel, the storyline was so engaging and i real felt like i connected with the character’s. The story really has a way of pulling you in right from the start right until the very end so get comfy while reading as you won’t be able to set it down. It toyed with my emotions they were up and down like a yoyo but that to me is a sign of a brilliant read if you can feel that emotion while losing yourself amongst the pages. I do have a love for second chance stories and also it had forgiveness, fresh starts, love and friendship. I highly recommend reading this novel!!
Next Door Knight by Nicole Flockton is the second book in the Man’s Best Friend series. These are standalone stories and you will not be lost if you read this before book 1. Kerry is running on all cylinders when Willow, her dog, gets away from her. Caleb finds Kerry’s dog and is the rest history?
You have to read the story to find out if Willow has helped make a love match between Kerry and Caleb. This is a sweet story with a good message about the importance of caring for the family. I liked the growth of the character of Caleb as he dealt with his demons and who could ever resist Willow, a cute therapy dog for veterans. I liked Kerry in the beginning but she wore on me in the end. I wanted to see a transformation in her as I saw in Caleb. But overall I liked her and her devotion to her father. This story was a good read and kept me reading to the end. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
The cover of this book caught my eye to start with.,Hot guy and a cute dog! This book is going to be a good one I knew that. Yes I read the first book in the series (which also featured a dog) but know each book is a stand alone so you are fine reading each out of order or alone. BUT I would highly recommend reading Blind Date Bet as well. Kerry has come home to help take care of her dad who is recovering from injuries and can’t get around by himself. She has a new job she is starting and a little corgi dog Willow who is a first class escape artist. Her next door neighbor Caleb is snarky, surly and downright broody but Willow is determined to break through all his moods and yes his fence too… almost every single day. I imagine my brother who served in the K-9 unit is just like Caleb and when I read this book I could easily imagine him acting like Caleb did when my brother lost his partner. This book touched so many places in my heart and life. This book is exactly what one wants in a book…it had you thinking about things but escaping at the same time. I look forward to seeing where our author takes me in the next book in this series. I know we will have a little 4 legged friend as well so looking forward to seeing what breed we will get the honor of visiting with.
The Man’s Best Friend series has another great book, Next Door Knight by Nicole Flockton. The story is a simply story, which is something that the doctor ordered. Nicole Flockton’s characters are complex but still simple which makes it believable that they could be your next door neighbors. The story is simple but moving, Kerry was an overworked woman that has way too many things on her plate. She is just getting out of a bad relationship, became a new manager at a restaurant, volunteer at the Veterans center with her therapy dog Willow, and new to the list is being a caregiver for her Father. Caleb is a K9 police officer who has a career-ending injury and is grieving for his partner Trigger. Fate has brought Willow to Caleb and that is where everything turns around for everyone involve. This is a sweet simple story that made me feel happy. There are good people and four-legged family members that can help in so many ways. Will Willow mend Kerry and Caleb? Will Kerry be able to go on the way she has been or will she feel overwhelmed to the point of no return?
Next Door Knight is book 2 in the Man’s Best Friend series by Nicole Flockton. As this was my first read by this author, I was going in unaware of the style, rhythm or pattern of this author and her work. It was a great joy to discover the story was exactly what I love about a romantic love story. The ones that are hard fought are the best!!! And it was a struggle for Kerry and Caleb. Both had damage that was evident in the way they carried themselves. But perseverance, persistence, patience and a bone deep connection and attraction would prove to be undeniable. Add in the furry little friend factor, and that is what typically goes into a quality, 5 star story. It was an experience to watch these two, who had endured so much, find each other and be able to open their hearts, minds and lives so they could bring out the best in each other. A beautiful sight to behold. 5 stars.
Next Door Knight (Man’s Best Friend #2) by Nicole Flockton was a sweet rebuilding type romance, that not only pulls you in, it hooks you until the last page.
My first read by this author and in this series, I went in with a open mind and I fell easy into this light heart read. Now I will say that, I do have something about this book that rubbed me the wrong way, but overall this book is worth the read.
Willow and Caleb, stole the show for me. I want a Willow, I’ve never been a corgi type, but now thanks to Willow and her sassy powerhouse swag, I want one. Caleb, I related to him, as I am serving, and have been injured, it’s never easy when you’re in limbo not knowing if you can still do you job. Also as I have friends that are in limbo right now, I really got Caleb and what he was going through. He felt real to me, and his character growth and emotional growth was steady, and the true star of this book. In my option he was the True MC.
Kerry, Kerry….. my issues are with Kerry the female MC, and Willow’s mom. At first I got her, and what she was going through, but unlike Caleb, she didn’t grow, and it was almost like she went backwards. To be honest, there were red flags at the start, but I played it off as cracks from her past. But that’s the thing, as Caleb grow and came over his demons, she, didn’t. That made for a confusing second half and some infuriating moments. I don’t think she’s was a good fit, and even after that sweet ending, I still don’t care for her.
Overall this book is moving, sweet, and it has a powerful message about family, moving forward and rebuilding. This book gets my recommendation and my stamp of approval.
Happy Reading

Next Door Knight (Man’s Best Friend Book 2) by Nicole Flockton
As a first read by this author, I was blown away that i’ve never read anything by her before. I was captured from the start. The story flowed and didn’t feel forced, even when I was screaming questions in my head!
These two were great. They both had demons to fight, and helped each other get comfortable enough to share.
And of course the star of the book, Willow. Ive always wanted a Corgi and this just cemented that want even more. What a tenacious dog. She had a calling and just did what her instincts were telling her to do.
I can’t wait to read more from this author.
The Next Door Knight is such an awesome book. In this book you have Kerry who is seriously down on her luck. Having to move to a new place to help take care of her dad who broke both his legs in a skiing accident. After she had moved she has a series of issues that include her cute as a button dog Willow who keeps escaping the yard and bothers the neighbor Caleb. Caleb who is on medical leave from military. Caleb has lost so much in a short period of time and is struggling with PTSD. Willow being a therapy dog wants to help Caleb and keeps escaping the yard to be near Caleb. Caleb wants to help Kerry and her dad so he volunteers to help Kerry’s dad Ron while Kerry works. Kerry and Caleb have such a strong attraction to each other. Can Kerry and Willow help Caleb and can Caleb let go of the past so they can have a future? I truly enjoyed this book immensely.
I really loved this book. Its a story about 2 people who both have pasts that makes it hard for them to trust and love but with the help of a little dog they find happiness with each other.
Caleb is an airforce man. He was injured in action and his faithful dog Trigger was killed. Caleb struggles to come to terms with losing his best friend and shuts down from everyone and everything, especially dogs.
All until his next door neighbours dog Willow barges her way into his life.
With the help of Willow Caleb and Kerry learn how to get over their pasts and how to build a future filled with love.
Next Door Knight (Man’s Best Friend Book 2) by Nicole Flockton
Four stars
I’m not a huge fan of dogs. But this story was cute. There is a beautiful bond between a dog and its owner. Willow plays a big role in this story. I liked how the author included the dog throughout the story. I’m not sure I could’ve put up with Caleb’s issues. He was rude from the start. I liked how Ron was an open book. Kerry was super sweet and caring. I liked how smooth the story was. There wasn’t any parts in the story that felt unnecessary. Everyone had a part and played it well.

Next Door Knight was an enjoyable read and the first that I have read by this author. It didn’t take me long to get into the story and my interest was kept throughout. It took me a little time to connect with the characters but by the end I had found the connection that I was looking for. I definitely could feel the emotions coming from the characters especially Caleb, the author did a really good job in making sure that I had empathy as a reader for the things that Caleb had experienced in his life and the way he was feeling now. I really admired Kerry, she was a strong person who was also caring and compassionate and her family is very important to her. I love reading stories about therapy dogs I think they are so amazing and I am in awe of the things they can do and the help that they can give people, I adore them!
Overall a good read that I would definitely recommend and I am looking forward to reading more from this author again in the future.
This just gave me all the warm fuzzies, helped in part by the wonderful four legged friend in the middle of our story. If you have a soft spot for animals, you’ll love this story. A canine spotlight, romance, great characters… Flockton does a wonderful job weaving this tale. I was engaged from beginning to end. Loved it!
5 Star
Next Door Knight (Man’s Best Friend Book 2) By Nicole Flockton is the second Book in the Man’s Best Friend series and a book I couldn’t put down once I started reading. And then he meets Kerry. She just can’t seem to be able to walk away from him.Can Kerry and Willow help Caleb? Can these two have a future together? Find out what happens next. I highly recommend reading this book. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.
Next Door Knight by Nicole Flockton is the seconds book in the Man’s Best Friends series. This is a heartwarming book that is easy to lose yourself in.
It isn’t often I connect with animal characters in the books I am reading but I have to say I really liked Willow. I felt like she really had a part to play in the book and the she had a character all of her own.
I liked Caleb and Kerry as well. Their story, their journey, was one that I found easy to follow. You could understand everything that had happened, and what they were feeling and you could get behind them.
This is overall a very enjoyable book and for me was a great way to switch off and immerse myself in someone else’s world for a while.
Next Door Knight (Man’s Best Friend Book 2) by Nicole Flockton is a romantic comedy with some military influences within the story. In Next Door Knight, one of the main characters Willow – such an endearing and pleasant addition to the story. Kerry and Caleb are both individuals with some fractured pieces from their past influencing their present. Reading how these characters interact with Willow as the mediator, as times, was inspiring. This story is sweet with real-life issues that impact the characters and in how they handle the situations. I enjoyed Nicole Flockton’s take on the handling in this story and felt the scenes flowed well along with the intriguing conversations that ensued. A well developed story of what has to be a great series.
Next Door Knight by Nicole Flockton is the second book in the Man’s Best Friend Series. I fell in love with Willow from the very beginning and fell deeper in love the further into the book I got. I definitely saw little pieces of my own dogs in Willow. Plus can you go wrong writing a book where the biggest supporting character is a sweet dog? My answer to that is no.
Kerry and Caleb meet in a fairly unique way and their relationship from the beginning was unusual but I really enjoyed it. Kerry’s Dad was great and had some laughs because of him.
I do wish the blast from Kerry’s past had been more a part of the story but I’m not exactly sure how that could have been done.
This was an extremely cute story with a happy ending. If you want something fairly lighthearted with minimal conflict and involves an adorable dog then I think you should give it a try.
Next Door Knight is the second book in Nicole Flockton’s Man’s Best Friend series. It is a beautifully crafted story of second chances at life. I read it as a standalone and I didn’t miss not having read the first book. I want to read the first book though as I would like to know Isabella and Ethan’s story.
Next Door Knight is the story of Caleb Bradshaw, a K9 airman on medical leave, and Kerry Williams, learning to live again after being grinded to the ground by her ex – next door neighbours and each with their own baggage, and let’s not forget about Kerry’s therapy dog Willow who at times steals the show! Yes, it is a love story but in its true essence it is a story of letting go and starting to heal. I loved how deep the writer took us into the depth of the emotional trauma that the soldiers go through when in the combat, the toll that their struggle takes on themselves and their families … I admire the way the writer handles the fragility that the ones surviving an abusive relationship starts rebuilding their life … and to top it all off, giving us Caleb and Kerry’s stories from their point of view, the writer lets us to see deep into the characters and their struggle.
I am looking forward to discovering more in the series and will go and pick up book one now! Here we go Isabella and Ethan!
