‘New Orleans rush’ is a sweet, magical, fun story.
The main characters Beatrice and Huxley balanced each other very well, Beatrice had this happy, bubbly personality and Huxley was more serious, more stiff but that made them just the perfect match. Although you could feel the attraction between the two from the beginning, the story felt more like a slow burn story and I loved that. This story had me laughing out loud a few times. The writing style was fluent and I enjoyed how every problem (small and big) was solved on the right time and with an easy flow. The story is told from both POV’s and is a light read.
This story isn’t only about Beatrice and Huxley but also about Huxley and his 2 brothers Fox and Axel. I love the interaction between the brothers too. And let’s not forget the magic!
If you love the books of Lucy Parker, than you have to try this book too.
It’s kind of hard to believe that this is my first listen/read by Kelly Siskind. I love finding new authors, especially when their writing draws you in and paints you a picture of the story.
New Orleans Rush is a light, funny love story that’s literally full of magic. Beatrice is so dang cute, not only in looks, but in personality too. She is definitely quirky, a little eccentric, and her putdowns are freaking hilarious . Huxley is more on the reserved side compared to Bea. He is the oldest of five boys, and takes that role seriously. He is always on time, maybe a tad OCD? He is a mystery, one that Bea would like solve.
This story was such a fun read with many laugh out loud moments. It is told in the third person, but that didn’t take away from enjoying it at all. I highly recommend it!
This is my first time listening to Holly Fielding. She did a fantastic job with giving all of the characters their own voice! I look forward to more of her work in the future!
Ohhh I loved the narration by Holly Fielding. The first time I have listened to her and I loved the way she presented the book. I could easily tell who was who just by listening. And I completely forgot it was just one person narrating.
The story had me from the very beginning. Brilliantly unusual characters and fabulous world building. I loved it! I loved watching the characters and their relationships grow. The twists in the story were great. I was really sad when it ended. I could quite happily have carried on listening to more!
This was my first Kelly Siskind’s book. This Rom-Com, slow burn story, is sweet, cute, and fun. The story takes place in New Orleans. The storyline is original. Huxley and Beatrice are great characters, and their story is beautifully written. Huxley’s brothers are also interesting secondary characters. Holly Fielding did an amazing job with the narration. I love her voice. I enjoyed listening to this audiobook. #AudiobookObsession
Bea follows a boyfriend to NOLA. She was broke and trying to escape her life in Chicago. Imagine her surprise when 4 days into the move and the boyfriend has a new girl. Too many lemon drop martinis and she keys the wrong car. Huxley Marlow and 2 of his brothers are magician who are trying to keep their theater open. It is their father’s legacy and has fallen in disrepair. When Bea keys his car right after his assistant tells him she is leaving he takes advantage of getting a free assistant until her debt is paid. Can their rocky start turn magical?
This was a fun read. I loved Bea and her funky, happy go lucky attitude no matter what life throws her way. Huxley is broody but you can tell how very much he loves his family. The brothers are close knit and their interactions are fun. This is a quick, easy read. I have read this author before and enjoy her style. Hope that the brothers get a book too.
New Orleans Rush By Kelly Siskind is a romantic comedy that I listened to on audio narrated by Holly Fielding.
This is the first book of Kelly’s that I have read/listened to and it definitely won’t be my last. She did an amazing job pulling you into the story and making you fall in love with Beatrice and Huxley.
Holly did an amazing job narrating! She used different voices for the characters which made it easy to follow along with the story. This is the first time listening to her and can’t wait to look into other projects she has worked on.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves Romantic Comedies.

This book was such a fun listen! You have the perfect mix of romance, comedy and magic. Narration was done just perfectly as well.
New Orleans Rush
By: Kelly Siskind
Narrated by: Holly Fielding
I don’t know what it is about Kelly Siskind’s writing style, but I love everything I hear from her! This is one of my top listens of the year, with it’s love story and quirkiness. Beatrice is in trouble, and is hiding in New Orleans from her father’s loan shark. When she is dumped by her boyfriend, she takes a cue from Carrie Underwood and keys her ex-boyfriend’s car. Only, you guessed it, it’s the wrong one! Huxley is on the brink of losing his family’s theater where they perform a magic show. In need of an assistant, he “hires” Beatrice to work off the damage. And the love story begins. It’s a slow burn, but it’s hot. It’s got music, and art, and tricks and brothers, and tattoos, and snakes! From the yellow Volkswagen, to the ugly unicorn painting, to the brother’s with “X”s in their names, it will make you smile, warm your heart and make you just want more.
Holly Fielding narrates the story to perfection. She nails each character with a different voice and with the inflections and tones that match their personality. It’s so much fun, it makes the time fly by and is a complete pleasure to listen to.

Book Review
New Orleans Rush
By Kelly Siskind
Thank you to @SilverDaggerTours and the author for a complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
I would like to first mention how much I like the cover art. It’s just adorable and happy and so completely romcom.
Now, on to the story. New Orleans Rush is the first work I’ve read by Kelly Siskind. I was hesitant about the magic aspect, but I gave it a try. It’s lucky I did because it’s quite a fun enjoyable read.
Oh, poor Beatrice when it rains it pours! And, top it off with a bit of drunken stupidity, and viola! Rock bottom. This can’t be true because New Orleans is teeming with magic, and as fate would have it, a serendipitous encounter is in the works. Enter Huxley, victim of Bea’s drunken stupidity. How can she right what she’s done to this strange guy? Bea becomes a magician’s assistance because Huxley owns and operates a magic theatre with his brothers. Immediately, chemistry is evident. Bea is a light free spirit. Huxley is brooding and a downer, for good reason, because his business has fallen on hard times. Maybe Bea can help Huxley save his family legacy? Bea has her own troubles thanks to family and money. Perhaps they can help each other? These characters are likeable, sympathetic, flawed and ridiculous. The perfect fit for this story full of idiosyncrasies. The story is clever and complex in a subtle way. I appreciate the struggles these characters face. The feels are real. It’s such a fun read that will make you smile. It’s perfect for romcom lovers. The atmosphere of New Orleans is ideal for this fateful tale. A dash of magic to help things along maybe? Regardless, this is a charming satisfying story. I will definitely find more books by Kelly Siskind to read asap.
She was done. She had nothing left and no options. She had given everything up and now she had nothing. He was the son in charge. It was always up to him to keep it all together. He was the one that failed. He carried that burden alone along with everything else. These two are a perfect match. Each of them more worried about the people around them and making poor decisions because of it. It’s a story with a bunch of sub plots which means lots going on and a few characters to keep track of which isn’t always easy but it was fun. The banter between brothers and the bubbly sunshine of Bea keep lots of chuckles flowing. It’s a cute read if you let yourself just go with it. This is my first read by this author and it was just what I needed.
I had no expectations when I started this book other than enjoying all the other books of Kelly Siskind’s that I have previously read. It’s the story of Bea and Huxley – who meet unexpectedly on what is possibly turning into the worse night of Bea’s life. Just days earlier, she had moved to New Orleans to live with her boyfriend and 4 days after the move, the boyfriend has broken up with her and she has little to no money, no where to live and no options. Due to reasons you will learn about as the story progresses, she cannot go back to Chicago and ends up meeting Huxley in a local bar that evening. Upon meeting, they are both interested in each other but neither is willing to do anything about those “sparks”….Huxley is a struggling magician, who, along with his brothers are trying all they can to keep their family theater open. They both have secrets and issues they are dealing with and their relationship is one that slowly develops as she helps the brothers with their magic show and they help her start to get back on her feet. As Bea and Huxley’s feelings for each other become more apparent and they become less successful in fighting them, their hidden secrets are also coming out into the open. Bea is running from danger from her hometown and Huxley is running from losing the theater as well as the demons that haunt him from a horrible night quite a few years ago (no spoilers!).
It has so many laugh-out-loud moments and the banter not only between Bea and Huxley, but Huxley and his brothers as well as Bea and the brothers are so much fun. Once you start this book and get invested in the storyline, you will not want to let these characters go. Pick it up, start reading and you will not be disappointed!
Absolutely adored this fun to read about odd couple… was a fun, sexy, emotional and engaging romance filled with so many exciting magical twists and thrilling turns, loved this New Orleans adventure. The charters are engaging and fun not to mention lovable with off the charts chemistry. Highly entertaining reading!
This is a slow sizzle that will set the stage for Bea and Huxley! I absolutely loved this funny, quirky charming read that is set in the beautiful and historic New Orleans ! Beatrice has followed a boyfriend to the city only to find him in another woman’s bed. She is now an artist with a broken heart and out looking for a job. When she lands a position as the assistant of one of the Marlow brothers and their magic act!
Huxley is quite easy on the eyes but he is also trying to get himself straightened out and when quirky but beautiful Bea shows up this is a whole new act !!! She is a no wall flower she will give you sarcasm, witty banter and will certainly not hold back to tell you what she thinks! This surly brooding man may have just met his match !!!

*I received a free copy of New Orleans Rush. This has in no way influenced my review which is honest and unbiased.*
This story was really sweet, and I enjoyed getting to know Huxley and Beatrice. Filled with magic, a little romance, and a dash of suspense I had a good time reading it.
4.25-4.5 stars. I adored New Orleans Rush! This book is Beatrice and Huxley’s story. Quirky, artist Bea has just moved to New Orleans with her boyfriend, only for him to dump her a few days later. She is not heartbroken, as it wasn’t a serious relationship, but she is mad because she is left with nowhere to stay and no job or money. She also is hiding out from her gambler father’s bookie, who has made her responsible for his huge debt and expects her to pay, or else. Bea is drowning her sorrows at a bar when she meets Huxley Marlow. He is a magician, who runs a magic show and theater with his brothers. Bea keys what she thinks is her ex-boyfriend’s car, but it turns out to be Huxley’s. She is mortified and agrees to work as Huxley’s assistant in his show to pay him back. Bea is drawn into the world of magic and the Marlow brothers. She and Huxley have an immediate connect.ion and a slow burn romance
New Orleans Rush is one of the best books I’ve read this year. I could not put it down. It is so original and fresh feeling, unlike anything I’ve ever read. The characters are quirky and fun. There were just so many layers to them all. I loved Beatrice and Huxley. The two have an instant connection. Bea is very quirky, artsy, adorable and says funny things. Hux is smitten with her- calling her his unicorn girl, among other cute nicknames. He is in awe of her and how she has brightened up his life. She feels the same about him, and sees past his scars. I loved the way their relationship developed. It was slow burn and I didn’t even care. They both knew pretty quickly that they wanted to be together, but had a few obstacles they had to overcome first. Both were strapped for cash. Huxley was dealing with a crumbling, failing theater that he must repair and get new customers for. Bea had to start making money in hopes to pay back her father’s debts. They both had “parent issues” with pretty terrible absentee mothers, Huxley’s father was passed away and Bea’s was a degenerate gambler. Bea also had issue with the fact that Huxley had a weekly poker game in which he was raising money to repair his theater. Due to her father’s history, she didn’t want to get involved with a gambler. But Huxley proved he was willing to give up anything for the love of Bea.
The book has a very hopeful, bright feeling. There is some very sweet and funny moments, some sexy times, characters with great depth and personality, and a unique story. I loved the story and the writing. The side characters, like Huxley’s brothers, were great too and I hope they get their own books. I loved the New Orleans setting. It felt very real and I could imagine the sights and sounds. I loved the magic aspect and the glimpse into that world. I also loved that Bea was a very imaginative soul and a talented painter. The story was low angst and no ow/om drama. Huxley had been celibate for years with no serious relationships before and was not a manwhore. His feelings for Bea, and vice versa, were very real and true, once in a lifetime love.
Overall, I really loved New Orleans Rush. I thoroughly enjoyed Huxley and Beatrice’s journey to love. It was a great book and definitely the best I have ever read by Ms. Siskind. I look forward to what she comes up with next!
5 magical stars under a magician’s cape.
Before I write anything, seriously, go pre-order this book, like now.
This was my first Kelly Siskind book, and she was kind enough to let me read an advanced copy, even if I didn’t know what to expect. And I’m so glad she did. I had been in some kind of reading slump lately, and I didn’t really like any of the books I’ve been reading (with a couple of exceptions), but this book…
This book trapped me since the first pages. New Orleans, Bea’s misfortunes, Huxley’s cozy cape, an unfortunate incident with the wrong Mustang, friendship, polka dots, family, off-the-charts-sexual tension, bad guys, vampires?, good guys, guilt, naughty guys, scars, promises, a magical show, bees, a beetle, ANGST!, a badly drawn unicorn, a phone that never works, and lots of love. SO. MANY. FEELS. I. DON’T KNOW. WHAT. TO. DO. WITH. THEM.
This book is sweet, and funny, and angsty, and sad, and happy. I smiled, I laughed, I felt for them, I cried, my heart shrinked a couple of sizes at some point but, unilke other stories, the main characters actually talk when they recognize the danger of reacting rushly.
I’ve fallen in love with Bea and Huxley, but also with Fox, Axel and Della. I’d love to read more about them!
As soon as my physical copy arrives, it’ll go directly to the pile of my favourite books, and I’ll re-read it more than once. I also hope they can turn it into an audiobook because I need it. Seriously.
You guys.
THIS. BOOK.
I don’t even know what I was expecting going into it. I think I knew it was going to be “different”, but I didn’t know that “different”, in this case, meant quirky, and charming, and adorable, and heart bursting in all the very best ways.
GAH! It was heart bursting, you guys. My heart literally could not contain all the feels and my face ached from all the smiling and it was just so. good.
From the very beginning I was completely enchanted with this story, which featured one of the most unique, hilarious and adorable meet-cutes I have read in a long time. And that set the stage for the entire book. I can’t decide who I was drawn to more. Beatrice with her broken heart and penchant for endearingly unorthodox insults? Or the mysterious, scarred, down-on-his-luck Huxley; the illusionist who can’t seem to help being charmed by Beatrice’s eccentricities.
Nah, y’all, forget Huxley. * I * was so thoroughly charmed by Beatrice’s eccentricities and, really, this entire story. It’s so original, and so smartly written, with a sort of affectionately humorous tone that made me smile so big and let loose the occasional out-loud giggle. The characters are so wonderfully offbeat and genuine, and I loved them so fiercely. Beatrice is the type of heroine I want to carry around in my pocket forever. I wholeheartedly adored her indomitable spirit, sassy personality, and heart as big as the world. And Huxley was her perfect opposite – serious, surly, and stiff. As a couple they were perfection, their chemistry evident from the very first meeting, and their sweet slow burn warmed my heart. No lie, my heart attached itself to them almost immediately and it never once let go.
I also adored the dynamic between the Marvelous Marlow Brothers. These men are all fascinating and compelling in their own right (and Lord, but I hope I’ll get to see more of them in the future), but together? They completely stole my heart. The banter, the family dynamic, and the brotherhood added another rich layer to this lovely story, and was such a treat to read.
I don’t even know how to convey how much I enjoyed New Orleans Rush. This is not your ordinary love story. It’s extraordinary. It’s delightful and so much fun, but it’s also emotional and sweet. It sometimes zigged when I expected it to zag, but never in a way that made me feel frustrated, it’s just that the story was as unconventional as the characters within it, and I loved every single second. I absolutely cannot recommend this book highly enough. READ IT!!!
This is one of the most delightfully unique stories I’ve read in a long time. New Orleans Rush reminded me so much of Jennifer Crusie’s books, with bizarrely quirky characters that immediately make you wonder, “How am I possibly gonna fall in love with this weirdo?” but then you do. I adored Huxley and Bea, as well as Axel, Fox, and Della. I really, really hope this is the first in a series and we get to meet the two missing Marlow boys. I must admit that I was skeptical about how much I would like this one, which just feels silly in hindsight. In the oversaturated realm of romance novels, this one is a standout. I have no doubt that I will remember this story, and these lovable characters, in a week, a month, a year, two years–you get the picture.
Beatrice and Huxley are magical together. I loved their interactions and Bea’s quirky character was super fun to read. The book is set in present day but it had a retro vibe to it and I couldn’t help picturing the theatre from The Greatest Showman as I was reading it. I really loved Huxley’s brothers and I can’t help wondering if one of their stories is coming next!
This book is already my favorite of 2019 and it’s only January. Kelly Siskind has the rare ability to make me insane over a book. That “I laughed, I cried, my heart beat out of my chest” feeling that one would hope to get every time you read a book. Right from the first couple of chapters I was biting my nails as something unfolded that I could see coming but couldn’t do anything to stop. It wasn’t that it was predictable, but more like “Holy shit, I could totally see myself doing this and how I can stop?”
Beatrice Baker. I can’t stop gushing about her. Seriously, she made me smile so much that I was grinning from ear to ear for a good part of New Orleans Rush. She’s funny and quirky, loyal and full of love, and she’s an absolutely delightful character. Siskind literally brings her to life. As she does the surly Huxley Marlow.
Beatrice makes a huge mistake and ends up working for the Marvelous Marlow Boys at their rundown theatre as a magician’s assistant and she changes their lives with her own brand of magic. Hux is gruff. His father’s magical legacy is falling down around his ears and he can’t do anything to stop it except the one thing Bea won’t tolerate. It’s a perfect setup.
Each character brings something important to the story. Of course, at the center are Bea and Huxley, who have dynamite chemistry and a back and forth banter that I couldn’t get enough of. I laughed out loud so many times at their antics that it was borderline ridiculous. Their romance is sort of a slow-burn-but-not-slow-burn and if you’re expecting pages of sex, you’ll be disappointed. If you love an amazing payoff, you’ll be giddy. The timing was perfect and appreciated and completely what I’d expect from these two characters.
The other two Marlow boys are a little cookie-cutter, but it’s not their book to shine in. Axel brings a load of comic relief and Fox, with his quiet assessment of everything, had me yearning to know more. There’s Della, the boys longtime friend and Bea’s new friend that is sharp and no nonsense. She’s yearning for one of the Marlow boys and I even felt that to my bones. Most importantly, these three help Bea bring Huxley to the place he needs to be, showing them what family means.
The family theme runs rampant in this story and it’s my favorite type of book to read. The Marlow boys have their father’s legacy to live up to, while Bea is trying desperately to run from her father’s. Both Bea and Hux have put too much importance on their dads and Siskind shows their journey to standing on their own perfectly.
There are a few evil villains, one complete with a handlebar mustache and another that provides the funniest, surprising scene I’ve read in a book. I had to stop and reread it because it was that funny.
And, here’s the thing and why reading this book was like being wrapped in a warm blanket: New Orleans Rush is funny and poignant and sexy. The characters are true to life, but also magical in a way only a character from New Orleans can be. My husband’s family is from NOLA and Siskind brings that magical side of the city to life. I could actually picture the French Market in the scenes it featured in and taste the Beignets (which was sort of cruel because I really wanted one). I can’t recommend this book more!
