This book was such a refreshing read with a wonderful storyline and characters that were so interesting that I couldn’t stop turning the pages until the very end!
So much more than I expected and there’s a unique, magical twist! There is so much more to this story than the cover portrays and I was pleasantly surprised.
It took me a while to get into this book as it reads in third person, which I am usually not a fan of, but after a point I was not able to put this down and may have stayed up most of the night just so I could finish it.
I truly hope this is a start to a new series as I would love to read more about some of the side characters in the story.
Oh my gawd, I heard such great things about this book and couldn’t wait to start reading but as I began I started to doubt that I was going to like it….. because I LOVED IT!!!! This book is not your typical read, not by a long shot, it’s quirky, sweet, fun with a side of sexy.
Bea was an eccentric woman full of fun, witty banter and peculiar putdowns. Huxley is the oldest Marlow brother who carries the family troubles on his shoulders never truly living his life. That is until he meets the one woman who puts the “MAGIC” back into his life.
Huxley and Bea together are delightful, adorable and enchanting, that you won’t be able tear yourself away fron their story. A story that will suck you in and captivate you till the very end!
***4 ‘Smurf’ Stars***
Being a fan of Kelly Siskind’s words, I was all in when New Orleans Rush was announced. I mean NOLA, and Louisiana in general, is one of those #bucketlist places I will visit one day, and the whole magician thing definitely peaked my curiosity. And though there were a few things I would have like more of, I found the book to be a fun and quirky read with a lot of heart and characters I enjoyed getting to know.
I ADORED Huxley. This man is all about taking care of those he calls his own, and has a tendency to go a little overboard on it, but his heart tends to be in the right place most of the time. Sweet, compassionate and a little surly, the man had that laid back alpha vibe that had me wanting to cuddle up next to him. I loved Beatrice, I did. I loved her quirks and how she totally owned everything that she was and followed with her heart. But there were times where I wanted to reach out and shake her, I got why she felt the way she did and I did give her props for standing her ground, but sometimes her impetuous nature definitely worked against her.
Huxley and Bea’s journey was filled all kinds of slow burn goodness and totally worked considering the various issues they were both dealing with, a couple of which were quite intense and emotionally draining on them both. But the good part of slow burn was that they had time to truly get to know each other. Huxley gave Bea stability and security, while Bea helped Huxley take the time to relax and enjoy life. They had quite a few issues to work through, and though I did tend to side a little more with Huxley than Bea, I always liked how things worked out between them.
This was a fun read. The writing was engaging and though the pacing did drag in some places for me, things did move at a decent pace. My main issue with the book is that I feel as if there were quite a few things left unresolved, not necessarily between Hux and Bea ~ I’m good with where things between them were at in the end ~ but more with their respective families. I would have liked a little more closure, or at least a HFN type of closure, between them. Now there could be more books to come in this world and those will deal with the issues I have, but as I couldn’t find any information on future books, I’m left with quite a few unanswered questions. But I truly enjoyed were the supporting cast of characters. Fox, Axel and Della were a lot of fun and I absolutely loved them and the depth they brought to the story as a whole and I’m crossing my toes that we’ll get more of them at some point in the future!

New Orleans Rush by Kelly Siskind
Five magical
Beatrice Baker “Bea” or “Honeybee” is whimsical, eccentric and eclectic, and I found her even more lovable because of her quirkiness. Everything about her makes you want to smile. Even though her life has been full of heartache and disappointment she still finds joy in life and everything around her.
Huxley Marlow “Surly Smurf” is so serious all work no play is trying so hard to make his dead father proud. He feels all the family business financial burden should fall on him because he’s the oldest. That is until a beautiful redhead comes barreling into his life making him realize what’s truly important in life. This book is full of so many wonderful characters that draw you into a amazing journey full magic, illusion, poker games and mobsters oh my!
This is one of my favorite quotes from the book.
“Life is unpredictable. You could get hurt. I could get hurt. But we can’t walk through the world bubble wrapped. Or in a net suit.” He ran his thumb over her bottom lip. “Then how do I protect you?” She leaned into his touch. “By eating beignets outside with me and dancing in jazzy clubs and painting and performing together. Loving me is protection enough.”
Five magical
I just finished reading New Orleans Rush and all I can say is AMAZING!! This story captures you right from the beginning and you are drawn into the lives of Beatrice and Huxley. I never expected the story to take the turns it did. I couldn’t not put it down! I was glued to the pages and devoured it.
I should preface this review with the statement that I’m a big fan of this author’s work and she certainly did not disappoint with New Orleans Rush. I had a feeling that this would be a bit different from her other releases, but never dreamed it would make me smile and laugh and cry as much as it did! Beatrice absolutely stole my heart-she is such a breath of fresh air-quirky, sweet, kind & adorable! And Huxley couldn’t have been more perfect & swoon-worthy. I’ve never been to NOLA, but when I close my eyes, I can see it. The depth of her writing is extraordinary! I want to jump on a plane and go see the Marvelous Marlow Brothers on stage right now! As with everything else, the secondary characters are well-developed and add so much color to an already vivid and rich story. The Marlow boys are each interesting characters in their own right, but together they’re a force to be reckoned with. Pure perfection & truly magical — I loved everything single thing about this book and highly recommend reading it! 10+ stars!
I am not sure how I snagged this but dang do I LOVE it! The writing flows very nicely. The story is a little different romance. The characters just sucked me deeper into the story with their lovable-ness.
I love how these two met. Very different. On a whim she makes a huge drunken mistake but it could be the One that also saves her. This girl is do fun and quirky. I love the free spirit of her. What she does and says just makes me want to hug her. Huxley is very interesting to me. His job (while a struggle for him) is awesome! His devotion to family is unquestionable. Yeah he has problems but his attitude just kept surprising me over and over.
The Marlow brothers are so great. I mean Huxley is broody. He has the huge responsibility and does magic!! Yes I said Magic! I could easily imagine the awe that Bea has while watching them perform. Then there is Axle and Fox. I love their names and attitudes and quirks that describes each perfectly.
Overall this story is one that had me hoping and wishing for these characters. I absolutely loved it and it will be going on my re-listen page for when I want a feel good story. I did listen to this on audio. The narrator did a good job. I would love to see Fox and Axel’s story.
Another winner by Kelly Siskind!
I adore Huxley and Beatrice – wounded warriors who are willing to take risks to achieve their dreams. A great story!!
I loved, loved, loved this love story! I discovered the author almost 2 months ago and I read her first series in almost one sitting. Even though I enjoyed her previous books, I know that this new series is going to be awesome.
New Orleans Rush is the first book of the series Showmen and it has the most cute, romantic and optimistic story ever. The characters are so lovable and relatable that even when they might do something stupid, you show understanding and forgiveness and you move on.
Huxley and Bea are the couple that you want to be and Huxley’s brothers, the family you wanna have.
When I started reading the book I thought that the rest of the books are going to be around the Marlow boys, the brothers from this book, but from the blurbs I realized that we are gonna meet new characters on each installment. I do not mind, though it would be fun to follow the family for a while and meet again and again Huxley and Bea.
I cannot wait to read the next book in the series. Did I mention, by the way, that these are the best paperbacks I ever touched?!
And in case you didn’t get it. I LOVED IT!!
I received this ARC from Bad Boy Updates. I love a quirky, funny romance and this one is great!! A brooding magician trying to save the family theater meets a stressed out artist when she accidentally keys his car while tipsy. They each have their own baggage, but they can’t deny the spark between them. Bea ends up being Huxley’s new assistant to pay off her debt, but not without many hiccups along the way! This has the right amount of drama, snark, humor and passion…it’s unexpected in the best way!
Wasn’t sure what to expect. An artist with rose colored glasses (Bea Baker) a scarred magician who scowls (Huxley Markow). But it works!
Kelly Siskind pulls a slight of hand with this book.
Recommend.
Received from Bad Boy Update.
This book is different from any other romance I’ve read. It’s funny, it’s quirky and downright humorous. An unusual couple who met by chance bring out the best in each other. Huxley and Bea seem to bring out the ‘magic’ in each other. Set in the magical city of New Orleans, this is a romantic story that you’ll enjoy reading. The characters are likable and unique and the story is engaging. I read an arc via Bad Boy Update and voluntarily chose to review.
This was book was funny and light, really easy to listen to. I liked my the way they meet and how she ends up being his assistant which help her to overcome her fear. Huxley brothers are really cool, both of them and I hope they get a book of their own. After finishing the book, I really want to have some beignets . . .
The narration of Holly Fielding was so good, It’s my first time listening to her narration and she did a pretty good job with it, I will definitely be listening more of her narrations.
The story was cute. I had a little bit of issue with the third person way it was written, but that’s more a personal thing than any reflection on the story itself. I also ended up speeding up the audiobook to 1.25 speed. I prefer to listen at regular speed unless the narrator is slow, so this one required the speeding up. I was clued into a treat I had not discovered in the three times I’ve been to New Orleans, and that is beignets with cream filling. Something I’ll just have to go back to try. There were some of the things that frustrate me, her not reading all the messages at the end, him letting someone else put doubts in his head, but I do have to say that the whole death scene at the end was a big surprise that I didn’t see coming! Now I don’t see that it is a series, but I would definitely be interested in reading about Huxley’s brothers finding their own romance!
First time reading this author and can’t wait to read more. I hope this is a series as I would love to read more about Huxley’s brothers. Great set of characters!
The Marvelous Marlow Boys are magically delicious!
I sincerely hope Kelly Siskind is giving us all of the Marvelous Marlow Boys stories because I’m twitching for more magic.
New Orleans Rush isn’t just magical…Its also zany, quirky, and full of nerdy weirdo fun. From tshirts to will covet to detecting vampires, New Orleans Rush is an eyebrow raising, smirk inducing fun bunch of awkwardness. Bea is beyond quirky and wildly entertaining. She’s a sexy vixen set about wooing the Scowly Smurf in her life. (It sounds crazy but believe me – it’s an adventure worth embarking on!)
New Orleans Rush proves it’s not about the destination (though that too is perfect!), it’s all about the journey!
Join Bea, Huxley, and the remaining Xs of the Marlow Brothers on this Marvelous(ly) magical adventure!
Charming, funny romance in the Big Easy
5 stars overall, 5 stars story, 5 stars narrator
This is one of the best romantic comedies I have ever listened to! You get a nuanced 14-hour slow burn, stage magic, an adorably bubbly heroine, and the flavor of New Orleans. The narrator is fantastic as well. I highly recommend it to all romance fans. The writing is as good as that of Helen Hoang and Molly Harper. I like the writing better than that of Julia Kent, Sarina Bowen, and Penny Reed.
The third person perspective alternates between the two primary characters, Beatrice Baker and her love interest Huxley Marlow, but more often with Beatrice. I love how the author really lets us get inside their heads. Huxley is a stage magician in New Orleans who performs with his two brothers in their crumbling theater. Huxley has been weighed down by responsibility ever since his beloved father died in a tragic accident. Then Beatrice Baker flies into his life with her vivacity and her pin-up style. Beatrice has also had a hard time in life, but she always looks on the bright side and infuses every day with fun and appreciation of the little things. I absolutely adore both of these distinctive characters. They also have sizzling chemistry between them.
The narrator Holly Fielding did an expert job. I was highly impressed, and I plan to look for more of her work soon. She has perfect comic timing and a very pleasant voice. She conveys subtle nuances of emotion. The narrator perfectly embodies the role of Beatrice Baker while still being able to sound like sexy guys. Holly Fielding’s warm narration, together with the excellent story, sucked me in immediately and wrapped me in a cozy cocoon of sound.
I received a free audiocode via Audiobook Obsession, and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Beatrice is a free spirited , artistic, eccentric, passionate young lady. She looks at the world with rosy colored glasses. Her philosophy is, a smile always makes it a great day. She went to New Orleans with a boyfriend only to be dumped by him ,the 2nd day they arrived. She got drunk and decided to key his car. But it wasn’t his. It belonged to Huxley Marlow!
Huxley Marlow is a down and out magician along with his two brothers , Fox and Axel. Huxley is the oldest trying to keep their magic act and their fathers theater going.
Beatrice brings, laughter, fun ,sunshine ,love, and unicorns to his boring life.
Their connection between them is magical! She brings the joy to him he never had. He brings out her inner muse and she starts painting again.
Her quirkiness and his magic are a Wonderful combination. It is a standalone, but I would love, if there were stories about the other brothers, too! This was a fun, amusing story to listen to! Holly Fielding’s narration is just a quirky and fun to listen to. She gave each character their own voice and personality! #audioobessionreviewer
For Bea last 13 hours was terrible. She could be the winner of Guinness World Record for worst luck. She moved to New Orleans from Chicago with her boyfriend, after 4 days in New Orleans he decided to let her know that they should be with other people and since the apartment they livein was in his name, she lost roof over her head. Then, she went to bar and got drunk and keyed car ( she thought that car was her ex, it wasn’t) now she has to work for the owner of that car.
Great story. Loved the characters in the book.
