Love, love, love!
Although Chasing Crazy will probably always be my favorite book of Kelly Siskind’s, New Orleans Rush came *this close* to knocking it out of the top spot. Bea and Huxley’s story was so charming, quirky, heartfelt, refreshing, and fun.
I loved that neither Bea nor Huxley quite had their acts together, pun not intended! It’s a nice change of pace to read a book about 2 characters who aren’t perfect, who have flaws, who don’t know what’s going to happen day to day, who take what life throws at them and do their best to survive. And somehow, some way, even manage to thrive.
I really adored these characters and their love story. The romance was sweet and swoony and did all kinds of things to my heart.
Ms. Siskind balanced the more emotional aspects of New Orleans Rush with funny, light-hearted moments, and it made for such an engaging, entertaining read.
I’m really hoping we’ll get to see more of the other Marlow boys in the future!
Beatrice Baker is a glass half-full kind of girl, always fun, smiling and looking for the positive in everything around her, but when she finds herself freshly moved to New Orleans, dumped, homeless and unemployed, she’ll make a few bad decisions that will change her life’s path.
Huxley Marlow is a magician. The oldest son of a deceased magician, owner of a dilapidated theater and head of the Marvelous Marlow Boys, Huxley has been struggling to follow on his father’s footsteps and keep what’s left of his family together.
Beatrice and Huxley have an immediate connection brought forth by her drunken fascination with his cape and his attraction to the bubbly redhead who called him an insect’s name.
This story has it all. It’s well crafted, sweet, funny and romantic. Beatrice quirks and whimsical personality are definitely a breath of fresh air to Huxley’s responsible and surly sides. I found this book original and loved that both characters have a creative side. I also enjoyed the New Orleans backdrop, the magic world of the Marlow brothers and the dynamic between them.
New Orleans Rush was definitely a refreshing story; new in the cookie cutter world of modern romance, it brings back old fashion magic intermixed with elements of tradition, family values and the everlasting following of one’s heart.
This book is 5 star magic. As a reader, it’s the kind of book you’ll think back on and smile about. It makes you smile the whole way through. As a writer, it’s the kind of book you wish you’d written because the whole point of writing is to make people feel the way you’ll feel reading this book.
Romance books are supposed to be escape from the boring exhausting everyday life. And New Orleans Rush by Kelly Siskind is the perfect escape. It is pure magic. It is pure bliss. It is pure writing art.I am still under the spell and I am loving every magical moment.
I love when the author uses the city as a character rather than a simple location. New Orleans is playing an important part with all her seductive, playful and boisterous glory. I was really amazed by the unique and unusual liason between Huxley and Bea. On one side we have the struggling , brooding, serious Magician with scars on his body and mind. And on the other side we have the lively, optimistic, cheery, adventurous and loving Artist. The story is pretty simple. Yet I could not breathe because I was so anxious to know what new turn will come in Bea and Huxley’s journey. It was witty, funny, charming, deep, intense, emotional and every good thing I can think of.
Magic and Arts are integral part of the story. I loved all the characters equally. Each has their own personality that shines through the pages. The narrative was simply mindblowing. I was teetering on the edge between reality and surrealism. Kelly Siskind draws a vivid and intense picture with her words. The words sink in me and grasped me whole. She made me feel the one of a kind, soul capturing, all consuming love between Bea and Huxley.
New Orleans Rush by Kelly Siskind was a crazy, dreamy and perfect ride. The magic was in the words. Art was in the storytelling. This was an unforgettable romance.
Received ARC for Honest Review
Kelly Siskind has delivered another wonderful book with New Orleans Rush. These characters are so unique and fun and quirky that I want to move to New Orleans and become their best friend. Beatrice, or Bea, is one of the best female characters that I have read in a long time. And Huxley, the broody magician can’t help but be intrigued by her quirky flare. And their connection is a slow burn where they both need to learn how to trust, and be open with another person. And their story is one that will leave a huge smile on your smile while reading because these are two people that you want root for in every way with their lives, love and family! And this story is set in New Orleans and the author does a wonderful job immersing the reader in the local culture.
This was my first book by Kelly Siskind but if they are as romantic, sexy, and quirky as this one, it will not be my last! The author is a master of showing emotion rather than just telling. Beatrice and Huxley were both three-dimensional characters who grew tremendously over the course of the book. The buildup and tension of their relationship was slow and well worth the wait! I adored all the secondary characters, especially Huxley’s brothers Axel and Fox. Finally, while this is not an enemies to lovers story, I totally got a similar vibe as The Hating Game by Sally Thorne in terms of writing style. I think fans of THG will love this.
A brooding, cape-wearing hero, an ebullient, artsy heroine, and the magical city of New Orleans. Throw in loan sharks, a crew of hunky brothers, and sizzling hot goodness. How could you go wrong?
I have to admit I’d been eagerly looking forward to this book since it was first announced. It exceeded all of my expectations. Siskind’s writing is as sharp and wry as ever, the story is equal parts heartbreaking and hilarious, and there’s enough swoon to warm whatever weather you’re having.
I loved this book. It was a delight to read and I can’t recommend it highly enough.
This was my first book by Kelly Siskind, and I simply loved the quirky characters! I am looking forward to reading more books in this series (book 2 is already on my TBR).
I give this book 3.5 stars.
It’s the first book I have read by this author.
I did enjoy the book, sometimes it was a little lacking in depth, but the occasional humour was spot on for me.
I really liked Bea, she was a lovely bright character which is so different to a lot of the heroines in books, she was just so fun and quirky. Huxley made me really want to give him a hug. He took on so much responsibility free his fathers untimely death, and continued to feel that everything was up to him to sort out and fix. Being very self conscious of his scars too was so endearing and the fact that Bea saw beyond those was heartwarming.
Fox and Axel, Huxleys brothers I really liked. I was hoping that they would get their own stories as I would like to see what happens to the relationship between Fox and Della. It was lead in to nicely but I’m slightly disappointed they don’t get their story.
Axel made me laugh, the humour was dry, which I really appreciate. Some parts of the story were a bit far fetched, but this is fiction at the end of the day.
I enjoyed listening to this audiobook and will be checking for more available by Kelly Siskind. I really liked that the characters weren’t perfect. I would recommend this story to people who like rom coms.
