Among these obnoxious online personalities, there’s no shortage of suspects. And with her reputation on the line, and the local police breathing down her neck, shy and timid Roxy has to step up. New Orleans Nightmare is the 2nd book in Ms. Alison Golden’s ‘A Roxy Reinhardt Cozy Mystery Series’ and I really loved it. She did an amazing job of further building up the characters and their world in New Orleans as they all settled in as new friends and as they took over the business of a hotel from the previous owner. There’s lots of intrigue to be had as they launch their newly renovated hotel when an invited Instagram Influencer is murdered. I highly recommend this book, its a great fun read!
I love Alison Golden but i think her mysteries set in England are better than the American ones. The first Roxy was pretty good but this one left me cold… perhaps the idea of Influencers was the issue, or the fact that i spotted the killer as soon as (it) was introduced.
This second book was a fast paced, action packed, intriguing who done it with Detective Johnson breathing down Roxy and her friends and guests neck again. A wonderful read that kept you guessing until the end. The characters are so real that it hard to come to the end of this story. However I am sure the next one will be just as wonderful.
It looks like Roxy is in New Orleans to stay!
Roxy and her friends have made some changes since we heard from them last. With the help of her new friends, Roxy took what was once a rundown, yet charming, guesthouse and transformed it into a luxury boutique hotel. But the changes don’t end there. Mousy little Roxy is finding her moxie.
This is a good, clean, fun, and easy read. A great whodunit from a master storyteller. If you love reading cozy mystery stories, then you must read this book!
The story itself was ok and interesting, however it’s focus was not on a mystery. It’s focus was on keeping guests occupied and entertained in order to get good reviews for the hotel.
With NEW ORLEANS NIGHTMARE, Roxy Reinhardt is now co-owner, with her friend Sam, in a newly renovated and renamed hotel in downtown New Orleans. What was once Evangeline’s is now the Fat Cat Inn. As a way to bring business in Roxie has decided that social media is the thing now. She invites a group of social media influencers to try out the ambiance and charm. Evangeline, the former owner, is still there in the role of cooking delectable Cajun food and Elijah, the baker, brings a steady supply of beignets and pastries.
Unfortunately, things get off the a very bad start after one of the guests is found dead and it looks like his demise could be due to poison. Testing shows the hotel’s food is not to blame, so tensions are high when the guests realize the murderer is among them. The crusty detective in charge of the case certainly doesn’t put their fears at ease. Several of the guests seem to have possible motives as Roxie acts as an amateur sleuth again in this second in the series.
The author has written an atmospheric tale with all the sights, sounds and smells of the Big Easy described in vivid detail. I have been to New Orleans twice and both times the highlight of my visit was having warm, fresh beignets and cafe au lait at Cafe Du Monde. The cemetery described in the book is very creepy and gravestones and crypts are fascinating. The author certainly has done great research and probably had fun at it.
It is important you read book #1 in the Roxy Reinhardt series, MARDI GRAS MADNESS to truly enjoy this book. The reader can see how Roxie grows as a character and learn the back story of the other secondary people.
I am really looking forward to more adventures in book #3 of this charming cozy mystery series. The author has quite a few other novels in various series you will want to add to your TBR pile.
This new series for Alison Golden is a wonderful cozy. The characters are believable and the flavors of New Orleans really stand out.
Roxy Reinhardt as part owner of The Funky Cat Inn is determined to make the small hotel successful. She invites a group of Influencers (social media personalities with large followings) to spend some time at the inn intending to show them the best hospitality The Funky Cat can offer. Unfortunately, the diverse group of personalities besides being quite competitive don’t mesh very well. Then one of them is murdered. Naturally everyone at the inn is a suspect. Now to save her own and The Funky Cat’s reputations, Roxy has to not only figure out who committed the murder but has to show the rest of the group that her hotel is the place to stay in New Orleans.
Once again we have Roxy and her friends introducing us to more of colorful New Orleans, its culture and its cuisine.
New Orleans Nightmare is a cozy mystery. There is no profanity and no sexual scenes, just an enjoyable read.
This second book in the series is every bit as good as the first. As the new part-owner and manager of the newly refurbished New Orleans guesthouse called the Funky Cat, Roxy Reinhardt has planned a extravaganza for the Instagram stars (also called influencers). These people are all legends – in their own minds – and expect to be treated like royalty. Roxy, with the help of her friends, tries to treat them the way they expect, with hopes of good publicity through their Instagram accounts. Of course, things never go to plan and things are looking really bad when one of the influencers is found dead in his bed. Detective Johnson had to be the one who investigated the case. He already disliked Roxy because she solved the last case when someone was killed near the guesthouse. He was now giving everyone at the guesthouse a hard time and warned Roxy not to investigate anything herself. She tried to carry on with her plans for the guests and took them on a river cruise and a tour of one of the old cemeteries to see the tomb of Marie Laveau, the renown Voodoo priestess. It becomes apparent that someone who is now staying at her guesthouse is the murderer, but the question is both who and why.
Roxy Reinhart the owner of the newly refurbished guesthouse in New Orleans is in the middle of a social media campaign when one of her guests is found dead. Roxy can’t help but wonder if she bit off more than she can chew with this campaign. Now she fears the guesthouse will get negative reviews from the social media guest. Roxy knows she will have to help solve this death not only for her livelihood but to honor her guest’s memory.
In this book, Roxy’s character shows a lot of growth and the relationships between Roxy and the main secondary characters are getting stronger. The charm of the setting of New Orleans is almost like another character in the storylines. New Orleans’s culture and cuisine are a big part of the book. The plot is well-developed and moves at a quick steady pace. Also having Instagrammers makes the story very modern and unique. There are several suspects and quite a few red herrings to keep the reader guessing until the end. I was surprised at who the murderer was.
I received a copy of this book at my request, and I have voluntarily left this review. All thoughts and opinions are my own and in no way have been influenced.

Roxy is hoping to highlight her hotel because she has several Instagram celebrities staying there. Of course, there is a mishap and Roxy and her friends get involved. This is the second in the series, and a highly entertaining mystery by Alison Golden. There is a bit of New Orleans mystique involved, a really nice mystery and several wonderful characters to enjoy. I highly recommend that you read this book. It’s so much fun!
Moxy Roxy is at it again. While others are chasing wild geese and fishing for red herring, she goes after and bags the true culprit. I found the story quite enjoyable.
I received a copy of this book as a gift. This is my honest review.
This new series is proving to be very enjoyable. I really like the various characters in and around the guesthouse and the descriptions of the New Orleans setting.
This book features social media ‘influencers’ visiting the renamed ‘Funky Cat Inn’ to help promote it, but unsurprisingly, things really start to go wrong, from red wine staining a very expensive dress to one of the being killed.
Roxy, the new part owner of the Inn suffers from a lack of confidence, and it takes all her strength to get through the crisis and solve the murder and charm the guests.
It is really enjoyable to see the various characters develop from the first book, especially Roxy who is really discovering her real inner strength.
This is a great book, with some light-hearted, feel good moments mixed in with the mystery, and transported me to New Orleans, even though I’ve never been there!
I received an advance copy of this book, but have voluntarily written this honest review.
Roxy and her crew of friends have finished updating the hotel in true New Orleans fashion and are on their way. Sage has arranged a gathering of “influencers” who post reviews and comments on different establishments. The first night one of the gentlemen is found dead in his room. Roxy must keep the rest of the guests busy while dealing with a grumpy sheriff and dozens of reporters. She also is keeping an eye out on who the murder could be. The author does a great job of fleshing out the characters and plot. Hard to pin down this one. Alison Golden is a very talented and diverse author. Enjoy all her books
Evangeline’s B&B has undergone a renovation with a new manager and a new name. Roxy Reinhardt is the manager and part owner of the Funky Cat Inn. In an effort to attract new business, Roxy invites a group of Instagram “Influencers” to stay at the inn. The first of the influencers to arrive was Ada Okafor, who seems to have a proverbial chip on her shoulder. Next came Michael O’Sullivan and Dash Davies, who both seemed to be care-free world adventurers. Then came Sylvia Walters, an older lady from Maine. The last influencer to arrive was Lily Vashchenko.
Unfortunately, the first day’s dinner turned into a disaster when Dash accidentally spilled red wine on Ada’s white dress. The next morning, Michael finds Dash in his room…dead. Detective Johnson immediately calls the death a murder and everybody is a suspect. Michael elects to move to another hotel when Dash’s mother and brother decide to stay at the Funky Cat.
Who killed Dash? Why was he killed? Can Roxy manage to absolve the Inn of any wrong-doing and maintain its reputation? Can Roxy and Detective Johnson unmask the killer?
Alison Golden has created some wonderful characters and situations. The blending of cozy mystery with New Orleans culture makes for a wonderful story. As usual, there are plenty of twists, turns and red herrings to keep the reader guessing clear to the end.
I received an ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. I love Roxy even more than I did after the first book! After turning her back on home and everything that was holding her down, she packs up everything and moves to New Orleans. Now nothing is holding her down! It is so much fun watching her turn into the spunky hotel owner she is now! Along with the quirky bunch of friends she has made, she’s made a name for herself not only as a hotel owner but as an amateur detective as well. I can’t wait to see what else she’s up to in the next book in this series!
Roxy doesn’t go looking for trouble, it just finds her. She has a group of social media influencers staying at the Funky Cat Inn. When one of them ends up dead, there is a whole list of suspects. Roxy wants to get to the bottom of things but was told to butt out by detective Johnson. Well I’m sure you can figure out wha happens next. Let the adventure begin! Lots of adventure and twists and turns that keep you wondering who the murderer is. I’m looking forward to book 3.
Now that the renovations are done Roxy decides to invite social media influencers to stay at her inn and is hoping for great reviews. When one of the influencers is killed Roxi fears her inn is down! Detective Johnson demands she not investigate! This was a great follow up to the first Roxie book! I really enjoyed this book. I love how Roxie solves these cases and notices clues I didn’t think were important! I love the core characters they are a good cross selection of New Orleans natives and new comers! I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series
An enjoyable cozy mystery that has just the right amount of humor and mystery. Roxy is now the manager and part owner of the Crazy Cat Inn. The six bed, full kitchen inn has undergone a total makeover and is now a colorful, eye catching beauty of a building.
In this second book the new guests are all popular Instagram influencers invited for a free stay at the inn. Roxy hopes their favorable reviews will bring in more guests but when one of the guests is found dead Roxy fears all the reviews will be negative.
The reoccurring characters are likeable and add to the charm of the New Orleans setting. The motive for the murder was totally unexpected as was the killer. Each book in this series can be read as a stand-alone but I like seeing how the characters grow and evolve in each new book. I look forward to seeing where the author takes the characters in the next story.
Roxy Reinhardt is settling in to her new and improved life in New Orleans. She’s the manager and part owner of the Funky Cat Inn. The plan to host a group of Instagram influencers to gain positive posts should help the Inn gain popularity. The one thing the group didn’t count on was one of their special guests being murdered. Now Roxy’s nemesis, Detective Johnson, is in charge of the investigation. I was so glad to see that this close knit group of friends were having success running the guest house. They are all talented and caring. I liked the characters as well as the setting. Roxy continues to evolve. She’s becoming strong and confident. I love the hint of romance with Sam. I think they would make a great couple. The dialogue is sharp and sassy. This story is suspenseful. I couldn’t stop reading New Orleans Nightmare. I had no idea who killed Dash Davies. The plot successfully combines murder with a touch of the ghostly presence that populate New Orleans. Alison Golden and Honey Broussard have done an excellent job with this series. I love Roxy Reinhardt and her friends. I love how they all work and play together.
I received a copy of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed. My comments are my honest opinion.
