A New Orleans guesthouse. A social media murder. A killer with a virtual ax to grind… more than she can chew…
With the help of her quirky new friends, Roxy is determined to make her business venture a success. And with a horde of social media influencers descending on her tiny establishment, all she has to do is create a magnificent impression, and let their followers spread the buzz…
But these influencers seem more interested in bickering with one another than enjoying the Funky Cat’s charms. And their internet feud quickly leads to a real-life murder, when one of them shows up as a corpse!
Among these obnoxious online personalities, there’s no shortage of suspects. And with her reputation on the line, and the local police breathing down her neck, shy and timid Roxy has to step up. She’s got to fish for clues and solve the crime, all while escorting her guests on cocktail cruises and voodoo tomb tours…
Can Roxy reveal the killer before they strike again? Or is her reputation dead on arrival…

Roxy Reinhardt is the owner of The Funky Cat Inn, a boutique guesthouse in New Orleans. Her coworkers convinced her to invite a group of Instagram influencers for the week hoping to increase traffic to the inn. So, an eclectic group of people show up enjoying the food, taking pictures of everything, and acting a little oddly. When one of the guests turns up dead the next morning, everyone is a suspect and Roxy fears her inn’s reputation will be destroyed.
This is the 2nd book in a new series. I haven’t read the first; however, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters are interesting and the ending a surprise. Can’t wait for the next book!
I am loving this series. Some of these folks just make me laugh. I love them. Yes, they seem very real to me and that’s exactly what I like when I read. This is a great story line and you will get hungry reading about all the food they cook up. Some great New Orleans cooking goes on at the Funky Cat Inn. It is fun watching these characters grow into their roles. You get Roxy, Evangeline, and Nat together and you can get quite the conversation going on. Add Sage to the mix and watch out. We can’t forget Sam and Elijah. Every time they mention beignets I think about my trip to New Orleans. They are sooo delicious! I hope you will give this series a try if you haven’t already. I received an ARC of this book, but my opinion is my own and freely given.
“Maybe following your dreams is dangerous.”
Roxie Reinhardt, part owner and public face of The Funky Cat Inn has a full house. Instagram influencers, snobby, obnoxious and full of themselves. And then, a unexpected murder brings them together in an odd confluence of input that could close the Inn before it even really gets started. Add Detective Johnson, a plethora of press, and Evangeline’s Cajun cooking and the second helping of gumbo is served. Question is, do you really want to partake?
Alison Golden has done it again! In the second of this new series, she takes us deep into New Orleans culture and history and let’s us in on how things have evolved there as the “Lady”has evolved. Much like Roxy, the city begins to find it’s footing and spread its wings, even though situations have tried to stop her. More Roxy please! Highly Recommended 5/5

Absolutely loved this book. Couldn’t put it down until finished. I am enjoying reading how all the characters are evolving and the ending is one that I did not see coming. Thank you for such a great read
This is book 2 in this new series and it is turning out to be a great series. Roxy and her friends are wonderful. The first book lays the groundwork for the series. This book shows how much Roxy and her friends have developed into a great team. I look forward to more in this unique cozy mystery series. Alison Golden has a real hit with this series. But all her books I have read have been wonderful. Please keep them coming.
I love this new series and books by Alison Golden. I enjoy reading about the setting in New Orleans and the new characters in this series. Alison’s books are always well written, with a good plot and character development. I enjoy Roxy and the other characters, some old and some new. New Orleans Nightmare had a solid storyline and good mystery.
I would definitely recommend it.
True friends or frenemies?
Lies turn lethal when someone wants it all – and more death follows senselessly to cover up.
Too many reviewers in too small a space – not enough fame to go around?
This cozy yet dangerous destination seems to work transformative magic on survivors.
Melancholy yet sweet.
Great KU read!
Roxy to the rescue! She has done it again, solved the crime, saw the perpetrator arrested and grows as a person. Roxy will be famous, one day, count on it!
Another good time with Roxy and the gang. I love this series! There are so many good characters and I love how they all work together. New Orleans is a character in and of itself and I feel like I’ve really visited after reading this series. Just wish this book came with a bag of beignets!
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I sure do like Roxy and the gang. They are back with a new and improved hotel. Now that the hotel is in great shape, Roxy has invited some influencers to get some exposure for the hotel. They are a quirky bunch and Roxy is trying hard to impress them. When one of her guests is found dead, she is sure that that is the end to her hotel business. Roxy and her gang are once again on the case.
Roxy invites a group of Instagram influencers to the Funky Cat, and a murderer crashes the party. The writing is fresh and skillful. The plot is tight and multi-layered, and the characters are interesting and believable. It was an enjoyable read and I’m looking forward to future installments.
This is an enjoyable well-written whodunit with plenty of suspects and a few twists and turns. Roxy and her quirky group of friends are back in this second book of the Roxy Reinhardt series. The flavor of New Orleans is as much a character as Roxy herself. I really liked the way the last chapter tied everything together and gave updates on what all the Instagrammers were doing. I didn’t like Detective Johnson and his loud-mouthed hateful attitude. There was no excuse for his boorish behavior. I can’t understand why everyone was so willing to cater a memorial service and then a celebration of life party for free. I’m really enjoying this new series from the talented Alison Golden and urge you to give it a try.
Roxy has invited internet influencers to come to her place. Of course this is a mystery, so something happens and now Roxy has to figure out what is going on. Need to read for yourself.
I love how Roxy is growing. She doubts her decision but manages to get through it. Working and learning new things, she starts gaining confidence in herself. I feel like her at times (and I am old).
What is up with her feeling that something is behind her? The wink with the witch comment? Wasn’t there something in book one that was strange to her too? IS THIS STORY LINE HEADING WHERE I THINKIT IS?
This book can be read by itself and in a day. There is enough information to follow the storyline but you will want to go back and read book one just for the more in depth details and be ready for book three.
This is my honest and freely given review. I receive an ARC book.
