I wasn’t expecting that ending! With the surprise identity and the past coming to the door, literally, I was surprised and I like that. The Elena character is a lot like a normal young person. She fights with herself over what she should do, she has panic attacks, she gets bullied by the mean girls in school….but she is a wolf shifter. I don’t want to say to much, but I think Elena is more special than we know. I can’t wait to find out what else will happen of what else is in store for this character.
This was an interesting read. I was glad that Elena turned out to be more fierce than I thought at first. She is a character you can get behind, root for and become invested in. Bash was a fun surprise and as always the “mean” girls exist.
Well written, great characters and a well developed world.

Here I thought I was getting the usual shifter academy story full of mean girls and the underdog. Now the story did have that but it also had a fun twist to setup the series. It was full of school angst, danger, mystery and suspense with a twist that was fun. Loved the characters and the Sisterhood idea too. While set in a previous series world (which I have not read), I could easily follow along and figure out things as the main character is not exactly from that other series (ok I am assuming this). But I enjoyed the story and look forward to the next chapter and what other crap Elena must face.
New Moon is the first book in the Alpha Wolf Academy series by JJ King and it’s also my first book by King. This book took me totally by surprise with the unexpected and super tense plotline. While I never saw myself reading a book about a school shooting (I was very averse to the idea) I found that I really enjoyed the story. The tense situations, characters’ reactions, the reason behind the events, and the overall situation.
The story centers on Elena Jensen who finds herself out of her bubble at Alpha Wolf Academy, a university for wolf shifters. Elena is smart, sassy, light-hearted. She’s a writer who loves a good book and has a sanctuary in the school library. Elena is used to her safety bubble with her two best friends in her own little piece of Newfoundland (the story takes place in Canada, which is new for me). Then she is being pushed out of her bubble, without her best friends, going to school on a scholarship with the rich and elite. However Elena sticks it out, she holds her head high, works hard in her classes all to make her parents happy.
Elena is awkward and a bit of a loner however she finds a best friend in Rory Dumont, who just clicks with Elena. An instant best friend with who she grows a close bond. Speaking of bonds there is Sébastien “Bash” Reeves who is all kinds of hot, with who she has an instant connection with to bad his sister is the leader of the mean girl clique and wants nothing more than to keep Elena from her brother.
While the story sounds like it has the average setup it isn’t. There’s a school shooting and most of the book is Elena’s reaction to what’s happening. There were tense and scary situations, people hurt and killed. Elena had to react at a moment’s notice and make some hard decisions. Reading mostly paranormal and fantasy I’ve never come across anything like this, especially with supernaturals, it was interesting.
New Moon was a fast pace, intense read with a unique yet familiar storyline. With hints of a werewolf feminist movement, secret societies, betrayal, budding relationships, and family drama. King has grabbed my interest and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series, Wolf Moon.
Elena didn’t plan to go to the alpha wolf academy but her parents got her in, so she goes. She has the feeling that she doesn’t belong there because of her scholarship.
But when she meets a very hot guy things turn for her, although his twin sister doesn’t like her at all and tries to get her kicked out of the academy.
Elena makes a friend in Rory and joins the sisterhood, a secret group of women.
But next hell breaks loose and she discovers what her past really was, while fighting for her life.
I like the little meeting at the end. Which makes me want to read book two very much.
Great read if you like to read about werewolves fighting for something good.
Elena just wanted to attend academy with her bffs. They had the perfect pre- academy summer adventure planned, and then her parents dropped a bomb in her lap.
Now Elena is at the same private academy that her mother’s heroine attended, she’s among strangers that seemingly hate her guts for no reason, she misses her friends, and she feels an instant attraction for the hottest guy around.
Besides being ridiculed by the Bitch Squad, she makes a new friend, and gets close to the hot guy, which has all her girly parts tingling, not to mention her wolfy parts.
Then all hell breaks loose, the academy is invaded, students are getting shot, and the academy is cut off from the world.

A gripping, fast paced novel that will keep you teetering on the edge of your seat until the very last page!
I think was really drew me into this book in the first place is how relatable Elena Jensen really is. We’ve all felt out of place, like we didn’t belong. We’ve all felt like outcasts at some point or another. Or at least I have. But she doesn’t those feelings stop her. She doesn’t let anyone tell her she can’t do something and she continues to fight for what she wants, even if the odds are against her.
When the school is attacked by ‘terrorists’ Elena has two choices. She can give up and let them win, or she can step up and fight back. She doesn’t realize the strength she really has until she makes up her mind and it’s interesting to see how her mind works. Her thought process.
I absolutely adore the characters in this book. Elena and Rory are both extremely relatable, Bash is drool-worthy, and it’s even got mean girls and interesting villains.
This book was very fast-pace but easy to follow. Though there were a few typos and spelling errors, it didn’t take away from the experience any.
Definitely 5 out of 5 stars 🙂
I forgot that i don’t normally do YA anymore because at my age I don’t identify with the characters as well. This one though, I didn’t feel was a problem. The story was interesting and the characters had good development. I would have liked to gone a bit deeper into the emotions and relationships but that’s what the next books are for, right? There was enough here to intrigue me and get me on the hook for more of the story. I’ll definitely be reading more in this series and I understand that it’s a spin-off which is great because now I know there are lots more stories in this world! Yay!

It’s Elena’s first year at AWA, and on a scholarship no less, and we follow through her eyes as she finds her way through this posh school filled to the brim with rich kids. It follows the vague outline you see in academy books with the main character as an outsider, a misfit rich girl who becomes her BFF, cue hot rich guy, and a gaggle of mean girls. The unique setup of the story comes in how the characters interact and the world the story is set in. The story develops at a natural pace for setting up a new storyline and cast of characters (in the same world as the The Guardians series) but has some action in it with plot twists that will define the whole story. So who’s ready to find a new book boyfriend?

Mean Girls meets Vampire Diaries meets Bitten all wrapped nicely into one!
If you like your girls with just a hint of attitude while maneuvering through the one of the Seven Hells we so politely call High School, then get ready to sink your fangs into New Moon by JJ King!
High School crushes, the Queen Bee who thinks she runs the school (and makes your life hell if you go against her), different cliques (getting picked on if you’re in the “wrong one”). Just some typical days at this High School. Just add in some fangs and fur, and you’ll have the entire cocktail.
This is the first book I’ve read by JJ King, and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed myself! I can’t wait to sink my teeth into the second book of the series!

Once again a great read that hits the spot by this author. The characters are well developed and engaging and the chemistry between them is undeniable. The storyline flowed smoothly from beginning to the end.

From the title you wouldn’t know this is an Academy story. There is much more to this book than a simple Academy story. There are secret societies, terrorists and more. This is a really good book and the characters are likable and unlikable as well as relatable. There is always a mean girl click in school. I enjoyed this story. I thought it was interesting and it was easy to read. I would recommend it.

This was my first read from this author and I enjoyed it very much. I really liked Elena’s character and am excited to read the next book in the series.
This is a decent start to a new shifter series. There’s twists, romance, and strict, kick-ass females! The ending is a cliffhanger and I’m intrigued to see what blast from the last comes to protect Elena in the next book.

I absolutley loved it!!! Loved the characters. I love the main characters confident and fearless attitude and ability to fight back when the times get tough. Loved the plot twist, did not see that coming at all, especially the end. I can not wait for the second book in the series. I know that everyone will be satisfied when reading this book and I do recommend it.
