Underworld double agent Gabriel “Gabe” Gantry can’t stop screwing up.
But trying to commit covert good deeds from inside Hell is a devilishly tricky balancing act. Especially when his latest agency gig sends him Topside for something suspiciously non-Satanic.
Being a double agent in the Underworld is never simple, but a gig that doesn’t involve preventing the next apocalypse would be a breath … the next apocalypse would be a breath of fresh air. But Gabe knows better. There has to be a catch.
If this unlikely hero can’t figure it out before disaster strikes, facing the wrath of Hell will be the least of his worries…
New Dominion is the second book in the action-packed Judas Files urban fantasy series. If you like snarky characters, witty banter, and apocalyptic antics, then you’ll love C.G. Harris’s battle of Good vs. Evil.

“New Dominion” the second installment in “The Judas Files” by C.G. Harris continues to tell the story of Gabe Gantry, a double agent for the Judas agency. Being a double agent is never easy, for Gabe is another level of Hell . Thus, imagine Gabe surprise when he realise that his new commission will be to help one of the good guys; Gabe maybe a lot of things, but naïve is he not, thus he does what he does best… look for the catch, then… the only way to survive in Hell is to assume bad, hope for worse and expect even worst. And after crossing the Acheron one too many times, Gabe knows that something that looks too good to be true, it’s usually a trap.
C.G. Harris loosely Dante’s “Inferno” inspired series is riveting, unique, captivating, even an inspiring vision of Hell, with a brand-new take on the possibilities of life after death. Hell, still a place of eternal atonement and torture, is a very lively place when it comes to i’s denizens’ enterprises. Gabe’s sarcasm becomes his weapon of choice in an eternal fighting re-run; the story evolves with twisted situations, witty remarks, funny moments and an interesting plot, that keeps entertaining chapter after chapter.
An interesting, funny, original story, well-written plot with unexpected ramifications, the ninth circle of hell, even with the occasional trip to the ‘topside’, remains still the place not to reside, but surely it makes a very entertaining place to explore at book-page distance.
New Dominion
(The Judas Files #2)
by C.G. Harris
I loved the first book but this was even better! Gabe lives in the Ninth level of Hell and works for Judas. He works for a him on secret missions to do Good! He has to keep that ultra secret especially from his partner. He messes up enough.
It is a hilarious book with terrific characters, wonderful backgrounds, weird situations, great action scenes, and plenty of humor. I giggled a lot! As soon as I get a bit more more I will get another book!
The main characters in the book is Gabe and Alex.
They are partners and work together at the Judas Agency.
Gabe is a double agent who gets a great job in level 9 the coldest part of hell.
He does really well at this and him and Alex help alot of people but they cannot help everyone.
The story is full of action ,wit and humor.
I definitely recommend.
The Nine was just so original and clever and this follow up in the series is a worthwhile read. Other reviews point out the sarcasm and snark. Gabe is just sublime in his quest for atonement with his big golden heart.
The twists and turns of the plot are captivating. Another plus is the humor that pervades the story (quirky, offbeat, clever). Can’t wait to read the next in the series!
Took off one star for redundancy that I found tedious. I figured it was for the benefit of those who didn’t read the first book.
Gabe is a double agent for the Judas Agency, a secret that must be kept from everyone around him in Hell, including his partner. In this story, Gabe and Alex are sent on a mission involving an organisation curing cancer, but not all is as it seems.
I was a little lost when starting this book, as I hadn’t read book 1 (my own fault), but it didn’t take long to catch up. I like the whole premise of the series, and the characters, like the world (or hell) they live in, are unique. Being a double agent means Gabe has the ability to see things others can’t, which can leave him looking ridiculous at times. I love a sarcastic protagonist, so I found Gabe a lot of fun to read.
This was an enjoyable story, and I look forward to reading more.
Gabe is a snarky wheeler-dealer from Level Nine, the frozen lowest level of Hell. In the first book of this series, The Nine, Gabe snags a cushy job from Judas Iscariot that allows him to travel into the living world as a clandestine creator of chaos. Gabe succeeds admirably, but not always in the manner expected. He’s a screw-up, but a fun and charming character for those of us who love flawed and flippant protagonists.
New Dominion is the second book in the Judas Files series, and I received an advance copy from the author. Gabe is still as charmingly obnoxious in this tale where Gabe’s assignment makes no sense. He’s supposed to do something good? But that’s not normal. He takes on his own private investigation to figure what in Hell is really going on. These stories are good, fun reads, and goodness knows we can use of lot of those these days.
This looked like it would be a fun read because I love snarky characters and in many ways it was. There is a fine line with snark too much and it begins to feel repetitious and it loses that bit of punch that it had in the beginning. While Alex played Gabes straight man or in this case straight woman very well it got old after a while.
The story seemed to meander and I found my interest waning quiet a bit at times. When it seemed we would make some headway to figuring things out off we would go off on another tangent.
The story then became mildly amusing for me and didn’t carry through on the initial promise of a moving, snarky, fun filled day in the life of a double agent.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
