This was a fast-paced, addictive, suspenseful read, that I found I did not want to put down! Rose makes the story feel so modern, current and identifiable by anchoring the plot in events that reflect something of what we are experiencing, now, with the viral pandemic that has held our nation (and so many others) hostage for the past few months. A lot of authors have recently created stories based around the pandemic sweeping through the globe and the feelings of fear and anxiety it has visited on the population, but I think Rose has most convincingly NAILED IT! When you combine that along with the elements of intrigue, danger and suspense, the outcome can only be one thing: Winner! Winner! Viral Pandemic Mystery Thriller!
*I received a complimentary ARC of this book in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
What a great end to this series. Or is it the end if Harry Hunter? You have crime, family issues, and a virus that’s out all over the world. Harry has to fight this virus, take care of his family, and do his job. Along with all the twists and turns. This is a very good book and a page turner.
(Disclosure I received this book for a honest review.)
I liked this book very much and couldn’t bear to put it down!
This really could have come out of a current newspaper! Of course it is not exactly like what is going on-but close enough to make you shiver!! Hunter’s Dad comes down with the virus–then his sister shows up at his door after a year. She is schizophrenic and is positive that someone stole her baby. Not only that but she was the very first one who came down with the virus and started the pandemic!!
Hunter and his daughter were under quarantine-but Hunter had to get to the bottom of his sister’s statements! There are lots of twists and turns—then his daughter comes down with the virus.
Will Al be able to help him figure it all out–will his Dad get better–what about his daughter?
Jean who is Hunter’s girlfriend is busy in the hospital-she is a nurse.
When all is kind of over Hunter makes a decision and his daughter agrees! You will have to read until the end to find out what—and I will bet you won’t be able to stop reading until the very last word!!
Ripped from our current headlines, a horrible virus is sweeping through Miami. The good news is that afflicted patient number one has recovered. The bad news is she has no idea how she caught the virus and even worse she is related to Harry Hunter. Willow Rose has written a timely mystery. Just when you have it figured out….maybe you don’t.
Topic of book is very current. Enjoyed an easy read
I really enjoy the Harry Hunter books, but in this book, I would rather have an escape from the virus, not a book that deals with a virus. When I first saw that it dealt with a pandemic, my heart just dropped a little. On the other hand, there are multiple story lines — an abducted woman, the appearance of Harry’s unstable sister, and family illness — but Harry juggles multiple family and work situations. Willow Rose always weaves a storyline that keeps you reading. Although not my favorite Harry Hunter book, still a good read.
I received an arc of this book and voluntarily provided a review.
Harry is in the midst of a medical pandemic! Jean is overworked in the hospital and a woman’s been taken! Enjoyed revisiting Harry and his family, and Jean. The story was suspenseful, though a little too close to reality for me, right now. 3 1/2 stars.
As a pandemic ravages Harry’s family, his faith leads him to doggedly look for answers.
This book covers the horrors and challenges of a pandemic, a very timely subject. Harry can’t get medical treatment for his father, he can’t see Josie in the hospital and doesn’t even have info on her condition and, due to social distancing, he can’t even hug or kiss Jean for comfort. Harry’s sense of helplessness grows, and he struggles to hold fast to his faith. He concentrates instead on the when, where, who and why of the pandemic. He uncovers some related crimes in the process. As always, Harry’s investigations are pulse-pounding, and this one reflects the horror and desperation caused by an illness that threatens the world. Another “unputdownable” book by Willow Rose!
Oh WOW what a fantastic book and so perfectly shadowing what we are going through lately! I love Willow’s book. They are such page turner! Thank Willow for writing such great books!
Harry Hunter is not one of Willow Rose’s scream characters, but I still wanted to scream, with anger not fear, for what he faced in Never Walk Alone.
Harry is a likable, lovable character and this story is especially compelling with its similarities to our lives today. An excellent goodread.
WOW! Willow Rose takes today’s headlines and writes a very present day thriller! It seems a pandemic virus which seems to affect children and young people the most, as well as the elderly, has struck Miami! You are pulled in from the very first page and taken on a thrill ride! When Candice is locked down in her apartment, she develops a message/phone relationship with Bryan the neighbor in the building across the street. When Bryan sees someone break down the door in Candice’s apartment and kidnap her, he calls the police. Enter Detective Harry Hunter who doesn’t see any evidence of a struggle, yet something bothers him about this case since her phone, keys and pocketbook are still on the counter. Since Harry is an essential person he still has to work, so he has his father move in with him meanwhile to help take care of Harry’s teenage daughter, Josie who recently had a heart transplant and is very vulnerable to this pandemic. When Harry’s father comes down with the virus, he quarantines himself to Harry’s back room, while Harry puts Josie in her bedroom and tells her she can’t leave except to use the bathroom. But, she comes down with the virus and ends up in the hospital in dire straights. Then we have Jean, Harry’s next door neighbor who he is madly in love with and is on the front lines of this virus. And we are led to a subversive group called Outraged who want to change the world with Bobby Ray as the head and is famous for his diatribes who just happens to be Candice’s brother. To weave more into the story, Reese, Harry’s sister who he hasn’t seen in a while and who also suffers from schizophrenia and is off her meds shows up at Harry’s house and says she is scared because someone tried to kill her. To add insult to injury, she had just come out of a coma and was labeled as Patient zero but deemed cured. With all these different things going on at once, the author most deftly weaves together the pieces and you are surprised with the ending in more than one way. I love this series and can’t wait to read more! I received an ARC from the author but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
Harry’s wife goes into WITSEC and a few dates with Jean, when lock down happens. A couple see each other across the way, eyes meeting, phone number exchanged. Then he sees her abducted and dragged from the apartment. Her capture holds her in a dark room, saying she know why
Harry believes in Bryant, how can he do much about it, when there is a lock down. What to do when his father and daughter are now sick. It strike a message, of realizing ones actions, when everything is halted. The author has a gifted way of captivating us with another riveting story, well done.
Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
The new installment of Harry Hunter did not seem up to the same standards as previously. The believeabilty factor was stretched a bit far although part of this is differences of opinions between myself and the author. The plot seems somewhat stretched that normally a series does not have happen this early into it. That being said, it is still a good read. Get it and judge for yourself!
Willow has integrated our pandemic into Harry’s book. Can the virus be stopped? What will the outcome cost? What does Harry’s sister have to do with it and can she help out? Who is the missing woman that Harry is looking for? A very interesting storyline. Beware, you will be sucked right into Harry’s world, and it isn’t all sunshine and roses. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
I received an ebook from the author and this is my voluntary, honest review. As always, Willow Rose has hit it out of the ballpark with another exceptional book! The thoughts, the fears, the uncertainty in the “new world” are all portrayed throughout the book. As in the book this has been a trying time for us all and it’s nice to shove our fears into a book. This is a superb series and Willow Rose is an extraordinary author. I highly recommend this book to all. Enjoy!
This is a typical Willow Rose novel that reels you in from the beginning and gets you enthralled. I could not put this one down until I finished. A kidnapping, a pandemic with many people dying, and revenge. Detective Hunter is pulled in different directions to find the real criminal.
This is book four in the Harry Hunter Mystery series and another great book! The pandemic has hit Florida and Harry’s dad has taken ill, and he’s afraid his daughter will get sick. He’s working his latest case, a kidnapping. Then his sister shows up out of the blue and he’s needs to help her too. This is a fast paced, action packed story, filled with surprises and suspense. I absolutely loved it!
A global pandemic has the world on lockdown, but Harry is hard at work looking for a missing woman. After nearly a year since he last saw her, Harry’s sister appears on his door step. After talking to her Harry realizes that she may know more about the virus, and where it came from, than she is willing to admit.
Wow, action packed, and exciting mystery that resembles real world current events. I love Harry Hunter, but dang, this man just keeps taking hits where his family is concerned. I was so happy that Harry and the rest of these wonderful characters seem to getting a happily ever after, finally.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
*However the virus in this book and its symptoms look and sound a lot like Covid-19, this is an imaginary disease that’s even more contagious, deadlier and strikes hardest in children and young people. At the start of the book, no child has survived the infection
This book is set a month after the previous one, where Harry’s wife went into witness protection. He had hardly a few dates with new lover and neighbour Jean when a disastrous virus* struck and the world went into lockdown.
During this lockdown, Bryan watches how his neighbour across, Candice, has her door kicked in and is abducted in a car. When the police arrive they find the door unlocked but no sign of a struggle although her keys, purse with credit cards, and her phone are left on the kitchen counter.
Reese is the first person that was diagnosed with this unknown virus and patient zero. After a 4-week-long coma, she wakes up in a completely different world. She’s also the first person to recover from the illness and send home as the beds and resources are direly needed for other patients. That night, her door is kicked in and she has to use the fire escape to flee. With nowhere to go, she has only one choice and that’s to ask her brother, police detective Harry Hunter for help. Of course, he doesn’t refuse her, despite having not seen her for over a year. On top of that, his father has fallen ill and can’t be admitted in hospital because of his age. Now they fear that 14-year old Josie might also get sick, with her history of a heart transplant she’s very high risk.
With the story-arc about Josie’s mother finished, we get to meet Harry’s older sister Reese. She was already mentioned in the previous stories, so she doesn’t appear out of the blue. She’s a very complicated woman. After being raped as a teenager, she developed anxiety and schizophrenia. This is handled very empathically and accurate. The symptoms and behaviour are realistically incorporated into the story. Reese is struggling with her mental illness but she’s not set down as a raving lunatic. On top of all this, she now has to deal with being patient zero and the origin of a global pandemic. It’s not something she did deliberately, but she feels a lot of guilt all the same. Despite all her problems, the family is very happy to see her again and will do anything to help and protect the troubled woman.
The trust of Harry in his God, his praying and firm belief that God will keep his family safe is misplaced, ignorant and downright dangerous. What about all those people that pray harder and die anyway? I don’t want to insult religious people, but in a crisis like this, it’s better to put your hope on science. There’s too much talk of God in this story anyway. Even when Harry thinks he’s losing his faith, something will happen that makes him remember that God loves him.
I have some other issue with this book as well. I don’t know if it’s wise at this moment in time, to use a virus that’s so similar to Corona. I’m afraid that many less intelligent people will take this as the truth and aren’t there already enough conspiracy theories about concerning the real virus? I don’t think that the author wants to do this, but I would have used an illness that has far less common denominators with Covid-19 than this one.
The intrigue in this story in itself was interesting and suspenseful. But the ending was rushed and a totally miraculous ‘deus ex machina’. It’s really disappointing to read something like this from Willow Rose.
I received a free ARC from the author and this is my honest review
