Maureen Driscoll’s Kellington novels continue with Arthur’s story, the third book in her Regency romance series. When Arthur Kellington was fifteen, a Romany fortune teller predicted that his true love would be killed. Since then, he’s resolved to never fall in love. He has no trouble keeping his resolution until he meets Vanessa Gans, an agent with the Home Office who is on the trail of two … of two hardened criminals. As he finds himself falling for her, he must keep his distance emotionally as the only way to protect them both.
Despite her illegitimate birth, Vanessa Gans has worked her way up to being one of the Crown’s finest agents. She’s reluctant to accept Arthur’s help initially because she doesn’t want to place him in danger. Then she realizes her heart is truly at risk because there can be no honorable future between them.
NEVER WAGER AGAINST LOVE is a romantic tale of bravery, sacrifice and love. It contains explicit language. The earlier books in the series were NEVER MISS A CHANCE (Book 2) and NEVER A MISTRESS, NO LONGER A MAID (Book 1), which USA TODAY’S HAPPILY EVER AFTER blog called “enjoyable, suspenseful and satisfying.”

A witty, steamy and fast-paced romance with great characters. Good fun and much enjoyed.
A very wild ride chasing precious artifacts and bad guys chasing them. Very gripping story.I liked the characters they were deep and full. I hope to read more of this author!
This is Arthur and Vanessa’s story and I really enjoyed it! The spy/ espionage/ intrigue aspect was a nice touch to the romance- and the steam factor is HOT. If you like historical romance with some suspense and steam, this book is for you! Overall, a must read if you like this author and I recommend you read the rest of the books in this series as well!
Good story but toooo much yukky sex.
I ended up buying all 6 books in this series.
Thievery, mystery, love and adventure.
This is the third book in Kellington Family series and this time around it’s Arthur’s happily ever after and I loved the way this story developed. What I found out by reading this author is how much I enjoy the dialogue she writes. It flows, drips and enriches every story I’ve read so far.
As for the characters, they were well written, solid and three dimensional. From the start of the book you were able to connect with them and enjoy their journey as they try to unravel the mystery and come to care for each other.
If you are a fan of this author, then this is a must read for you.
If you’ve never read any of Maureen’s books, this is a good way to sample her writing voice. Enjoy!

I love all of Maureen Driscoll’s Book. I feel like the Kellingtons and the Emersons are family or close friends. Each novel is a unique story and wonderfully written. You cannot go wrong picking up any of her novels. (Most are on Kindle Unlimited too!)
The first three books of this series are well written and have strong plots and characters. I started with this one, which then had my interest to start at the beginning. Would not bother with 4 & 5 as the the author seemed to run out of original plot and followed the ho-hum of lackluster Hollywood.
I truly enjoy Maureen Driscoll’s books. She is a wonderful story-teller, and her stories revolve around loveable characters. This was a charming romance with a few good twists and turns, and a happy ending. Very satisfying and just what this tired and stressed-out university administrator looks for in her leisure reading!
A joy to read.
Great book.
A good, curl up in a chair, read.
So far, the weakest book in the series. I found almost everything about it to be unbelievable, I knew who the traitor was the instant he was introduced. Not only did I find the story unbelievable, I found the characters unbelievable. No where near as good as the first book.
Too much steam and not enough action
Not one of my favorites!
