I love Sarah Darlington’s Kill Devil Hills series so much, so I was really excited when she announced she’d be revisiting there with her new rock star series, centered around four member of the band, Sunset Revival. Book 1, Never Trust a Rock Star, is a great introduction to the series, the band, and its members.
Emma may think Ollie’s the one she wants, but it’s Caleb, the charming, swoony lead singer who swoops in to steal her heart. What started out as friendship, and a special one at that, slowly developed into such a sweet romance. Caleb may have lived the typical rock star life, but he’s put that all behind him and is ready to win Emma’s heart. I loved how caring and patient he was with Emma, even going so far as to tell her to keep trying with her boyfriend, though deep down it was killing him to think of her with Nick!
I really liked Emma. She’s so endearing, a bit naïve, and shouldering a lot for a 22 year old. She can certainly hold her own, yet at other times you can definitely tell she’s just 22.
I enjoyed seeing Emma and Caleb’s relationship progress. They became such good friends in a short amount of time, but there was a true connection between them. And as they grew closer, the love between them really got a chance to blossom and grow. I loved that Caleb didn’t push Emma, even if he was more than ready to move things along. He gave her the space she needed, especially after the surprising revelation.
Sarah Darlington writes the New Adult books I want to read- she’s one of my favorites in this genre. While Caleb and Emma face some heavier issues in this book, I like that Ms. Darlington doesn’t really add any unnecessary drama or angst. Everything that happened worked to move the story along, as well as to set up for the coming books in the series. In another author’s hands I can see some of this going off the rails, but Sarah never lets it get that far.
Never Trust a Rock Star is an engaging start to the Never Trust series and I can’t wait to get to know more about Dani, Liam, and Ollie!
What happens when your aunt enters you in a contest to win a date with the rockstar of your dreams??? Only thing is that man is nothing like you expected. Ollie Mills from Sunset Revival has been Emma’s dream until she wins and meets him. He’s a total player and lives his life like a game. I thought how is Sarah going to make this work. She did and it’s a sweet, beautiful story of Emma getting a dream of a man. That dream is Caleb Mills, Ollie’s brother and bandmate. From the moment he spots Emma in the hotel upon her arrival, he’s hooked. Only thing now is she’s his brother’s date but that changes quickly and Emma and Caleb share some time together. This story had me hooked, between their chemistry, all Emma has going on in her life, decisions to be made personally in more ways than one, a major surprise, and we get some more time in Kill Devil Hills!!! I loved this band of brothers and their female cousin Dani and I’m looking forward to more in the series!
Never Trust A Rockstar was brilliant! It was addictive, the story catchy and I absolutely adored the characters.
Ms Darlington has given me another read that I have enjoyed yet again. Highly recommend!
Emma is in love with Ollie Mills, the rockstar supreme, she has gone full-blown stalker mode as of late and should be worried about how crazy she is starting to look to others but she can’t seem to care. She should care since her boyfriend Nick is far from her thoughts lately.
Caleb Mills is living in his superstar brother’s shadow as their family band takes off in popularity. He is the lead singer, but is more than happy to have his outspoken brother take the lead as royalty. Until a fan wins a contest to be Ollie’s date and wins Caleb heart instantly.
Emma and Caleb develop a friendship after that win a date fell big time. They have a lot in common, and find themselves building little by little on this new friendship. When Caleb urges Emma to give a real chance to Nick, he hopes down deep that she chooses him instead. When she cuts off contact, his greatest fears come to light.
Caleb pulls out all the stops to win Emma’s heart, but will a person from his past put all that in jeopardy? Emma loses her heart to Caleb but will that be enough to keep her in his life? I voluntarily read and reviewed a provided copy without expectations.
This book was written in first person but both sides of perspective, which I like and enjoy. A solid 4 ½ stars for this return to Kill Devil Hills, NC, one of my favorite places on the planet. Good read from the author.
Never Trust a Rockstar (Rockstar in Kill Devil Hill # 1) by Sarah Darlington. Emma is a real fan of Ollie Mills. He is part of the hottest band. When she wins a date to meet him. Her obsession changes when she gets to see the real Ollie Mills, an arrogant, egotistical, self absorbed douche bag. When she can’t take Ollie anymore she ends up running into his brother Caleb. When Caleb first saw Emma he was smitten with her. Now that Ollie has shown his true colors he decides to shoot his shot. This was a really good story of 2 people from 2 different worlds finding each other and a chance at love. I enjoyed Emma and Caleb’s story to their HEA. The other members were definitely interesting and each has their own issues. All the other members of the band will be getting their own book and I look forward to reading each one and getting to know them better. This book was a great start to the series. Cant wait to see what will happen to them all. 4.5 star read for me.
Sarah Darlington always write beautiful and full of meaning stories and Never Trust a Rockstar couldn’t fall behind.
Rockstar romances are a go to for me, and having glimpses of Kill Devil Hills’ crew made this story even better!
From the second Caleb sees Emma everything changes. The attraction is instant but Emma isn’t there for him… she’s there for a date with Ollie, Caleb’s brother.
Fortunately something goes wrong and Caleb sees a chance to try to get to know Emma better and they become friends.
What comes after, left me glued to my kindle until the end.
I loved this story until something happens and changes the rhythm of it all and somehow it feels like the end was rushed because of it.
Now, I cant wait for Dani’s story because I know it will be fantastic!
Excellent romance
Do not expect torrid scenes, but a good, well-written romance, whose style, characters and story kept me going, from the beggining to the end.
Emma is an absolute fan of Ollie Mills, the musician of her favorite band. She has a simple life and works to help her family because her mother is sick. Her aunt had registered her in a contest. She won and she becomes Ollie’s date at a charity gala, but the date is very disappointing because of Ollie’s behaviour, and she felt an immediate complicity with his brother, Caleb, who plays and sing in the group.
This link is reciprocal, but Emma has a boyfriend and a health problem that keeps her from trying anything with Caleb, not to mention the sulphurous past to made her doubt from the musician.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
Winning a Date With a Rock Star
You would think winning a date with a rock star you have been crushing on since forever would be a dream come true. Well not if Ollie thinks he’s God’s gift and figures he’s doing you a favor by allowing you to have sex with him. Pretty typical probably but with Emma being a nice virgin who had been taking care of her cancer ridden mother she had stars in her eyes and things didn’t work out like she thought.
Ollie’s brother Caleb may be the lead singer of the band but he’s also the one that sees so much more in Emma than a quick bathroom fling. Emma is beginning to realize that she may have been crushing on the wrong brother. Caleb is nothing like his egotistical brother and would love the chance to at least be friends with Emma.
There are a lot of highs and lows in this book and I just couldn’t put it down because I had to know right then and there if these two would be able to work through everything that was thrown at them. I have found a series I love and I can’t wait for the second book to come out.
Never Trust a Rockstar is a my new favorite rockstar romance! Caleb is HOT! And sweet and kind. Emma’s just a girl wanting a different life with way too much on her plate for someone so young. I really felt for her.
I can’t wait for the rest of the books in this series!
I really enjoyed this romance. Emma is living a sad somewhat mundane life. Her mother is ill and her family is doing their best to hold it all together. She has developed a crush on Ollie, a famous rockstar. She has the chance to meet him and quickly realizes all that glitters is not gold. Caleb, Ollie’s brother is different. Caleb is not your typical rockstar hero. Yes he is famous and hot, but the excess of the life of a rockstar is old and he is over it. It seems he wants to continue to play, sing, and write, just maybe in a more low key way. Caleb and Emma meet and have instant chemistry. I really liked Caleb. He is sweet and knows what he wants. Emma is a little harder to get to know. She has walls and is insecure, but once you got past them was a genuinely sweet girl who wanted to be loved. I felt bad for Emma’s boyfriend, Nick. I hate that she continued to pursue a relationship with him even though she wasn’t feeling it. I think her mom and aunt were partly at fault for that. I really hope he gets a story and HEA. She did break up with Nick before getting physical with Caleb, but not before frequently texting, talking, and developing a type of relationship with Caleb. Not much ow/om drama, just a little bit. I enjoyed seeing some of the characters from the Kill Devil Hills series. The writing was great. The author did create quite the connection between the main characters, and all the other characters, though not always a happy one. She also inserts a bit realism into all of her books. This one deals with breast cancer and the obstacles many families face as well as real family dynamics, and depression, though not a main part of the story. No filler drama, great pacing, and no awkward dialogue. Can’t wait to read the next one.
This one was a really good read. Emma has a crush on rock star Ollie. It’s just a pipe dream until she wins a contest and get to met him in real life. The author is one of my one click authors and I didn’t read the blurb so I thought Emma was going to get with Ollie but one chapter two was in Ollie’s brother Caleb’s POV I was like ok. I had doubts how it was going to transition smoothly from Ollie being Emma’s crush to her liking Caleb but the story line was prefect. Emma is sweet and nice and Caleb is prefect for her. Caleb likes Emma and at first he settles for just being her friend. Caleb is a good guy and I was so rooting for him. This one is definitely one you should one click. I wasn’t really a huge fan of Ollie but I am hoping that he gets a book too.
4.5 Cranky Stars
As the saying goes “Never meet your heroes, because they’re sure to disappoint you” Well Emma learned that lesson the hard way when she met her crush her idol Ollie Mills. Seriously you can’t help but want to junk punch him repeatedly. He was rude and arrogant, but Caleb Mills wasn’t. How can two brothers be total opposite? You’ll find out in this book.
All Emma Winchester did was work and take care of her mother with the help of her Aunt Luce. Just struggling to make ends meet she dates a perfectly normal boy that she doesn’t feel anything for and she feels it’s her fault. She spends her nights after her shift’s internet stalking Ollie Mills of the band Sunset Revival. When Luce enters her into a contest to meet the band and she wins she feels this is her chance. Like I said earlier meeting him turns out to be an epic crap fest. He tosses his rockstar snark at her like she’s groupie and it doesn’t go well. It’s also at this gala she meets Caleb the lead singer. Maybe this “date” isn’t so bad. Emma starts to question her relationship with Nick and her relationship with Caleb, so she has an important decision to make. Yet this isn’t all Emma is dealing with she needs to make a life altering decision when it comes to her health.
Caleb is the anti-lead singer. While he does get up on stage and rock the panties off the ladies, he’s an introvert at heart. Sure, he has shared a bed with many days early on in his career he doesn’t do that much anymore. When a curly haired freckled beauty catches his eye across a hotel lobby, he feels the pull. You know the one? The bang the zing the this is who I want to wake up next to forever. When he learns this is his brother Ollies date, he knows he must act professional. He befriends her and gets in her good graces. When he finds Emma back in Kill Devil Hills, he knows this is his chance. He woos her and falls hard despite her hesitation. Yet when a blast from the past comes knocking on his door, he is faced with a decision that will also alter his future as well.
This book hurt my heart. I really shed a tear for Emma’s decision. She’s so young and so brave I’ll give her that. I felt like she was staring her destiny in the face when she looked at her mom. That must have been hard, but she loved her something fierce. Luce could have been more supportive. Caleb is the ultimate book boyfriend. I’m a darn sucker for rockstar books and this one didn’t disappoint. It made me swoon it made me upset it made me angry, so I say job well done. My only complaint was that epilogue just seemed to end. Like there was more but it got lost somewhere and I seriously thought something was wrong with my copy. Yet I’m glad with the way it ended so I wonder who’s next? Will Ollie get a chance to redeem himself? Dani? Lucas? I’m ready for whoever gimme gimme!!
this is a rockstar band but caring one not wild
Oh Caleb you are such an amazing man! Emma is young and has been dating a guy for several months. He is good to her and doesn’t hide the fact he is in love with him. She thinks she should love him back but just doesn’t feel like she can. When she wins a date with rockstar Ollie Mills she thinks her dreams are coming true. Turns out he can be a real jerk but that leads her to getting to know Caleb. He offers friendship if that is all she can handle. Will Emma find her true love with Caleb or learn to never trust a rockstar?
I loved all the characters in this book. All of Caleb’s family, Rhett and Luce are so fun. This story will make you laugh and break your heart just a little. I am not a huge fan of rockstar stories normally because they can be such jerks. All the Mills family members are pretty real and relatable. I loved this book so much and had to jump into Dani’s story right away.
Rock out
I’m going to say 2.5-3 stars
Caleb is a lead singer in a band with his brothers and cousin. They are a popular band and Caleb seems to be the ‘mature ‘ one of the group.
Emma is a family girl, she works with her aunt at both a restaurant and in A cleaning job and her mum is unwell.
I liked the story plot . I liked where the author was trying to take the story . But I found the story a bit disjointed and superficial in that it seemed to lack the emotional connection to the characters for me the reader .
I felt there were some big moments that had potential to really allow the characters to develop and connect that were just missed …. as an example Caleb was such a sweet guy but the scenes he was involved with Joe and what I would say is the climax of the story (without spoilers ) were pretty much skimmed over and a bit out of his character. We didn’t know much if anything really about Rebecca before this only that he had cared for someone before but it wasn’t that big of a deal really …
Overall I’d say it was a good read but not my favorite 😉
Short Story: Original. Interesting. Believable.
A good short story. This story was original, interesting and believable. I felt bad for the main male character due to his history of familial neglect/abuse. The main female character, in her way, was kind to the main male character when they were in high school. She unfortunately has fallen on hard times. There was a connection between the two main male and female characters that immediately sparked a mutual attraction. In short order (for a short story) they were able to work out a happily-ever-after.
A cute rockstar romance with some great characters. Emma is a young girl with a lot of wait on her shoulders, a sick mother, lots of bills, a boyfriend she isn’t that into but her family loves, and some serious potential medical issues that could seriously impact her life. To escape her life she obsessed over a rockstar and then she gets the chance to meet this rockstar and his brothers and cousin and finds out he isn’t all that, but his brother is. From there it is really a story of love at first sight. Caleb is the middle brother and lead singer in the band. He has some major insecurities and has been hurt by love before. The spark that ignites when Caleb and Emma meet is undeniable but some things get in the way, but when you have found your true soulmate nothing should get in the way. Caleb is such a sweet guy I loved him and he is exactly what Emma needs. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series
** I did receive a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review **

English:
“Never Trust a Rockstar” by Sarah Darlington is the first book in the “Rockstars in Kill Devil Hills” series but it’s standalone. It’s the first book I’ve read by this author, who hasn’t let me down at all. New adult, sweet, involving a rockstar and a big fan.
Emma Winchester won a date with the sexy Ollie Mills she is obsessed with, as she is a big fan of the band “Sunset Revival”. But on the day of the date, she realizes how different he is, practically an idiot, and Caleb Mills, Ollie’s brother, catches her eye. The two will start to get to know each other, but Emma has a boyfriend, and Caleb doesn’t want to get into that relationship.
I think this book is one of the first books I’ve read with a rockstar theme, but it’s not going to be the last as I need to keep reading and meet all the members of the band “Sunset Revival”.
Emma is a character that is lost, so emphasize more with her. Her relationship with her boyfriend was unsatisfactory. Family medical problems that give her a sad touch. At 22 years old, her whole life is upside down, but she feels comfortable with it because of her fears. Just knowing Caleb makes her come out of that bubble and start letting go more and live.
Caleb has been a character with a big heart, sweet, patient, he has everything. He conquers you as he does with Emma, and at many times I have been left with a gawky face. Every step he takes with Emma makes the relationship between them form a friendship, which even gives him advice that 100% sure not many would do. He likes it here, but he doesn’t want to get in the middle of anything, so he gives Emma space, and even after Emma clears her head, he doesn’t step on the gas. There’s even a scene where Emma gets physically and psychologically naked, a heartbreaking moment, Caleb was so flawless that I wanted to marry him personally. You do fall in love with him easily.
(He caught my wrist. “I don’t care what the dictionary says. Emma, trust me, that wasn’t a kiss.” His eyes were adamant. “You’ll know when I kiss you. I promise.”)
It’s been a very sweet book, with a male character that makes you fall in love, with a rock band that gives a lot to talk about for very different characters, and with a relationship like Emma & Caleb, that leaves you speechless. And without forgetting the Bonus Chapter with that great step of Emma.
I hope that “Never Kiss a Rockstar” with Caleb’s cousin Dani Mills and Sydney’s brother John Michaels will give me a good time.

Rockstar romances are another one of those reads that I easily gravitate towards. And I’m a fan of Sarah’s work, so I couldn’t wait to start this series. Never Trust a Rockstar turned out to be a little bit of a slowburn that I found myself enjoying quite a bit. I wasn’t sure what direction it was going take, but I was pretty happy with everything by the end.
I can’t say that I loved the premise of Emma being a fangirl, but naturally things happen and she changes her tune a bit. And I loved that Caleb Mills, the introvert, lead singer of the band sees something he likes in Emma. Going in I wasn’t entirely sure who she was going to end up with because I kind of went into this one, blind. And that was a happy surprise to me since I’m not a huge fan of Ollie. We already get hints of what’s to come with his book and I hope he can redeem himself.
I simply loved everything about these two, they were just perfect for each. They just worked and I adored every little bit of their relationship.
I’d say this was a great introduction to this series and plenty of glimpses of what’s to come. I definitely can’t wait to get into book 2.
