Her business is wildly successful, but the rest of her life is just wild. Sixty may be the new forty, but not for the Honorable Eleanor J. Skyler. She’s retiring from the law firm she spent her entire career building. What’s wrong with wanting to wear yoga clothes every day and go zip-lining whenever the adventurous mood strikes? Nothing, that’s what. She’s got no time for dating and drama. She … what.
She’s got no time for dating and drama. She certainly has no time to deal with her senior law partner, Andrew Carson, who has for reasons she can’t fathom, decided she’s his perfect woman. To say she’s confused in an understatement. They’ve known each other for over twenty years. They knew each other’s spouses before they died. Why is Andrew suddenly looking at her legs and telling her she’s beautiful? He’s barely over fifty. He has the tiny sports car. Why can’t Andrew chase a twenty-year-old like every other man having a mid-life crisis?
It’s bad enough her son bought her a membership to The Perfect Date. She’s going through that hot mess to stop her children from nagging about her love life. Just because Greg found sweet Jellica through that dating service doesn’t mean Eleanor’s going to waste her time going out with grumpy old men. No, thank you. That’s never happening. Neither is dating men younger than her shoes. The whole dating situation is ridiculous. Why does she have to date at all?
Before she went back to work to rescue Jellica, her life was perfectly calm and peaceful. The hope of returning to that flew out the window when one of Dr. Brentwood Colombo’s ex-wives mistook her for his new flame, Georgia Bates. Apparently whiskey can make you appear taller. Who knew? A video of the woman smacking her with her purse has gone viral. Now, she’s a social celebrity. If her broken nose is making the news, people need to get a life.
The only consolation to the wildness is Andrew having to stand in line to woo her out of widowhood because her list of potential suitors at The Perfect Date is out of control.

Being a single woman over the age of 50 myself, there was quite a bit that I could relate to in regards to Eleanor and her return to the dating scene. I found this book to be quite enjoyable and some of the characters are hysterical. This book can be a stand alone, but I found that I would like to go and find some of the other background characters stories so that I can learn more about them.
Eleanor feels that she is too old and not attractive enough to be dating anyone let alone the senior partner at her law firm. She just cannot figure out what Andrew sees in her and she finds their difference in ages a set-back. I enjoyed reading about their journey. It is nice to read a book about more mature couples.
I received an ARC of this book and I am freely and voluntarily leaving this review. All thoughts and opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
I love these books about more mature couples. Yes, life does exist after 40, YAY!!!
Andrew and Elle were so much fun. I loved the witty banter, and there were many laugh out loud moments. All of the couples are fun, and this book let’s you revisit some of them.
I could understand Elle’s hesitation, because situations like that work more in a man’s favor then a woman’s. I really think it’s great that both Elle and Georgia are involved with younger men.
I only wish this book was a little longer and we got to spend more time with Andrew and Elle. It seemed like things or I should say, the story, ended somewhat abruptly after Elle made her decision. I also wish there had been more details about the outcome of the case regarding Elle’s attacker.
A fast paced, romantic, lighthearted, funny story that can be read in one sitting. It started out really good, but it seemed very short to me. I would give this 3.5 stars. I would have gone for 5 if we had gotten to see more of Andrew and Elle reach that 6 month period.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy.
McDonald brings romance and a new perspective on love to those over 40 in the latest in her series. I highly recommend this book to fans of the contemporary romance genre.
I laughed, I sighed, I couldn’t keep from smiling…
When is a cougar not a cougar, when the younger man is chasing her. But when he’s also a very good friend and co-worker I could see why Eleanor was even more wary. It’s a good thing Andrew is persistent. I’m not quite to retirement age yet, but I hope I have half of the energy and grace Elle still has. And Andrew in his fifties still has a six pack, love it. What I really love though is the fun these two have and the realistic way widowhood is portrayed. A well written rom-com for older people is hard to find and this one is a gem. It was a wonderful winter afternoon read.
The stories about “mature adult” dating are always fun. For me, it can sometimes be boiled down to: sometimes you can’t see what’s good for you, even if it is right in front of you.
Eleanor Skyler is over sixty but an old friend, Andrew Carson, is in his mid-fifties and sooooooooo into her…and she can’t figure out why! I thought Eleanor was a bit rigid and set in her ways at different parts, but having characters – and they ARE characters! – from previous books around to tell her to wake up and smell the coffee (and Eleanor literally has to do that at different points in the book!) give this story the “fun”.
Love this series, always enjoy reading all the crazy characters, and the bumbling that can happen when you try (or not) to reenter the dating world when you are “over a certain age” and think it isn’t for you. Another great read for me.
The Perfect Date Series is the perfect blend of Designing Women and the Golden Girls. The characters from these show would give a total thumbs up to this series. I love the sass, snark, outlook, friendship and love found each book including Never Too Old To Date, book nine.
It is empowering to think that men will appreciate the beauty, strength and wisdom of women who are older. If for no other reason, I would live this series for highlighting that fact when much of society focuses on being twenty-something. However, there are plenty of other reasons to love this series.
To name a few –
Great main and supporting characters, who say exactly what I sometimes wish I had said
Wonderful storylines that seem entirely believable.
Happily-ever-after for people who are old enough to appreciate it and who also deserve it.
Humor that makes me laugh out loud. I feel good after reading one of these stories no matter how bad the day has been for me. The cost of the book is the cheapest laugh therapy you can find.
I have read all in the series, past characters show up supporting the new main characters. Still Never Too Old To Date reads okay as a stand-alone. It will tempt you to read the previous books just to find out about these straight shooting women and the men who love them.
The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Never Too Old To Date is Donna McDonald’s newest book in The Perfect Date Series. Widow and Attorney Eleanor Skyer has reached a pivotal time in her life, she took time off turning her practice over to Andrew Carson a senior partner. Returning did not have the appeal it once had so she officially retires! Andrew a widower wants to date Eleanor, he is younger then her, 10+ years younger! He has been interested in her for awhile and she’s been trying to get him to date younger women. He is ready to make his move and does a great job tricking her into “dating”. On one of these outings she’s mistaken for somebody else and ends up with a broken nose. Add to this drama her son buying her a membership to the The Perfect Date Agency where he found his perfect match, a couple pregnancies and you’ve got yourself a great story plot! This is a great book fill with Wonderful characters that remind you that yes older folks do have a love life! If you’ve read the other books in Donna’s series you will recognize several of them in this book!
I love Donna McDonald’s series. She gets that older people exist, have needs and fall in love. Her characters are wild snarky women and the men who love them. Falling in love and having sex is not limited to the Millennials and GenX’s
