Never Let Me Fall is the third book in the Fatal Dreams series. I love this series; every book has been fabulous and this one is no exception. While it does mention characters from the previous books, it can be read as a standalone. Seriously though, the other books warrant a read, so why not add them to your TBR list!!!
The author has superbly blended romance with suspense and danger in this dark and intriguing story of healing the wounds of the past though love and acceptance. The main characters have deep and complex issues stemming from the pain of past events. Due to the nature of the subject matter, there may be triggers for some individuals.
Get it. Read it!!!! You will not be disappointed.
Abbie Roads has done it again. I am left breathless after Never Let Me Fall, book three in the Fatal Dreams series. Don’t panic if you haven’t read the first two, this can be read as a standalone novel. I would recommend that you read them as soon as you can if you have not because they are equally breathtaking.
Let me just start with the gorgeous cover. Not only eye catching but beyond fitting and makes perfect sense once you read the novel. If I hadn’t read anything by Abbie Roads before I would have picked this up without even reading the synopsis.
Helena, I just loved her. She was a strong woman because she had to be. After being convicted of a murder that she didn’t commit as a teenager she spent years in a women’s prison. Brutal beatings has left her scarred both physically and mentally, and with a lot of healing needed by the time her release date comes.
Thomas had his own fair share of scars. When the two meet on the night Helena gets released from the facility there is an instant connection between the two. Both of them are so broken, but in different ways. Could they each have the pieces that could heal the other?
I just adored the way this book came alive off the pages. Abbie Roads has the ability to paint a scene with her words and make you feel as if you are right there with the characters. Each time I finish one of her novels I feel a great hangover and this one was no different. I can’t wait to see what will come next! Thanks for the great read!
Never Let Me Fall is the third book in Abbie Roads Fatal Dreams series. I have read EVERY SINGLE ONE of her books and I bow my head in reverence … With every book I read, I close it with a hope that she will give us another one in the series … Her imagination, her way of telling the stories, the way she gets into your head, the way she throws you on an emotional rollercoaster … she is a master of masters!
Never Let Me Fall is the story of Thomas Brown (the second book of the series was about her sister) and Helena Grayse … when these two meet, EVERYTHING changes, for both of them … At times I take a break from reading and I wonder where the writer takes the inspiration for her stories from … and to think that it is the third story focusing on an ancient legend, the writer doesn’t seem to lack of diversity, the different destinies that the couples have been destined for … please, keep them coming!
Just a friendly advice, do please read the books in order … you could say they are standalones that have the ancient legend in common … but I do not think so … you get sucked deeper and deeper with each story and as I said, the second book is about Thomas’ sister … I wonder who will be next and I hope there will be next and I hope that Abbie will also continue her Fatal Truth series in near future!
Never Let Me Fall by Abbie Roads is the third book in the fatal dreams series. This book can be read as a stand-alone although I will personally be going back to catch up on what I have missed!
This book caught my attention from the moment I read the blurb. I was intrigued by Thomas and his “inability” to see colour. I wanted to see how this would shape his work and his life.
And when Helena is introduced it really adds more definition to the whole story. This is a new author for me and I loved how easily she captured my interest and also how easily she held it throughout the whole book. This was an interesting and unique story that I throughly enjoyed.
4 “As always, disturbingly thrilling” Stars
There is not one time when jumping into a book by Ms. Roads that, even though I girded up my loins in advance, I’m not taken completely by surprise.
This time I was sure I was ready. I was ready for the gore, and the blood and the effing twistedness of evil people. Well, there was no gore and oceans of blood in Never Let Me Fall, it was more demured with like, buckets of blood. But what was most definitely not missing was effing twisted evil people.
As in previous books in this series, for me, the most amazing aspect was that Ms. Roads can weave the sweetest most innocent romance amidst, well, horrifying circumstances.
Thomas, Evanee’s little brother (from Hunt the Dawn) had his fair share of abuse during his childhood. While not suffering the same horrible fate as her, he was beaten and tormented by his stepfather until he was big enough to defend himself. Unfortunately, that wasn’t before an especially brutal beat down left him with ample scarring and optic nerve damage. This led to him being unable to see color, but with the ability to see a person’s soul and through contact with it, the person’s whole life’s memories.
Helen has made it through a decade of prison. Convicted of murdering her boyfriend, her only thought now is getting back on her feet and leaving the place that had become purgatory for her. Unbeknownst to her, a chance encounter with Thomas trigger’s her dormant psychic dreams ability. The connection between them is instant and all powerful. Even though Helen is set on fighting it, there’s just no way Thomas will let color leach out of his life again.
The most shocking aspect of this story, to me at least, was how the twisted evil people in this one weren’t actually evil to start with but had been pushed to it by loss. Of course, I’m not sure these were sane, well-balanced people to begin with cause, really… there’s some twisted shit going on here… but I guess that any emotion if taken to the extreme and unchecked, can become harmful.
There’s not a lack of action, suspense and intrigue in this installment of the Fatal Dreams series. The story is captivating, and it had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. The sweetness of Thomas and Helen’s romance was a balm to the soul in the middle of all the unfairness and hatred that swirled around them.
Once again I’m astounded by this author’s unique stories and the way she makes it all worth it in the end. I won’t ever hesitate to pick up one of her books because they are as amazing as they are disturbingly thrilling… I just would never want to live in her imagination.

I just finished Abbie’s newest book and as always, she did not disappoint. Superb storytelling from beginning to end, as she brings two damaged souls together and makes them whole.
The third installment in her Fatal Dreams series, Don’t Let Me Fall is the story of Thomas Brown and Helena Grayse; Thomas can’t see color since a childhood family trauma, and Helena hasn’t spoken in ten years, as it was the only thing she had control over in her world. Continuing the mythology of Nameless and the Bear, some of her previous characters (Evanee and Lathan) make cameo appearances throughout the book.
The third installment in the Fatal Dreams series, Never Let Me Fall, by Abbie Roads continues with its romantic suspense theme. Abbie Roads is highly talented in how she writes these stories. In Never Let Me Fall, the story immediately opens into a scene that makes you hold your breath! Oh my goodness, this book seriously had me on the edge of my seat quickly reading to see what was to happen next! Talk about a page turner!! I felt that the characters were each perfectly flawed. Helena’s past is not an easy one, yet the author handled it with flare without it feeling too weak or overly done. Thomas is enticing, the reader is drawn to him, to his personality and how he interacts. Combining these two characters together was climatic and how they juggle and combat against forces was well played. This story holds its own within the series, but I liked the touch of how there are small, minuscule pieces that overflow from the other books in the series.
This book by new to me author, Abbie Roads, had me feel so many emotions: sadness, horror, disgust but then hope and happiness.
This is book 3 of the Fatal Dreams series. Unfortunately I did not read the first two in the series so I didn’t have the connection to the characters, but I did not feel too lost reading this book. This story is about Thomas and Helena, two individuals that has had such horrible things happen to them that I honestly was not able to comprehend how they were still able to remain sane.
We begin the story with Helena in prison for a crime she did not commit; she has been incarcerated for the last ten years and was to be released the next day. The beginning scene, actually the first sentence had gripped me. I felt so much sadness and horror for what Helena went through while in prison and then when she was finally released. We then meet Thomas, he too is introduced as a tortured soul who had gone through a horrible childhood where he lost the ability to see color. Without going into too much detail and giving away the story, these two are star-crossed lovers that has this amazing connection that you just can’t help but root for them. The story was fast-paced with lots of twists and turns and some surprises (not always in a good way!) and it was very unique.
All in all, this was an interesting story and kept me engaged and rooting for their happily ever after.
Thank you Netgalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for giving me the opportunity to read this complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
Helena is found guilty of murder and is sent to a women’s reformatory. When she is released she returns to the town she came from without having anyone to turn to. She meets Thomas and changes his life. Together they make sense, they help each other, they understand each other, and they are at peace together. Neither lets the other in easily and they both have their demons to fight but together they can overcome anything.
I love the paranormal aspect of the story. The idea that two people can be connected so deeply that they have to be together, they have to touch each other, and they have to love each other is wonderful. The paranormal part isn’t so unbelievable that it makes the story unbelievable. The paranormal part is more about the connection of two people who make each other whole.
I am an Abbie Roads fan, even though this is the first book of hers that I have read. She has become an author that I know I will continue to read and enjoy. I definitely recommend Never Let Me Fall.
My Thoughts – 5 out of 5 Unicorns – I loved it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! Yes, I received a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book! I haven’t bought the book yet, but it is definitely on my list to buy when I can. I own all the other books already.
The cover is steamy!
This is the 3rd book in the series, and it is for adults only due to the violence and steamy content. I recommend reading the whole series in order to better understand the world and history of the series. There is some M/M scenes in this book.
Abbie does a fantastic job pulling you into the world and story. I love her complex world with a paranormal twist. She adds psychological issues that you don’t even think about until you read it.
This is Thomas’ story who is Evanee’s brother. He has a gift that he uses working for the BCI is a black and white world. Until he meets Helen, and she brings color back to his life. They both have histories that bring baggage to their lives, but they bring each other through it together. This is another action-packed story where you aren’t sure where it is going next, and I loved every minute of it!
I highly recommend to anyone who love paranormal crime books because this one rocks, and you won’t be disappointed!
Another winner for Abbie. I love her characters. I felt myself getting into the character of Helena. I love how the main characters compliment each other with their powers. Had a hard time putting this book down. Suspenseful.
4 stars
When I began Never Let Me Fall, I had no idea it was part of a series. While I suspect reading them in order would provide greater understanding, they are certainly able to be enjoyed as stands alone. The author does a spectacular job of bringing us up to date and explaining the odd thread that runs through the series. Normally I’m not a fan of paranormal books but as a mental health counselor, the author has incredible insights into human suffering. In her books, she offers perspective and peace between the pages that the clients hopefully achieve in real life.
Convicted of a crime she didn’t commit, Helena Grayse spent her last ten years trying to survive prison and the torture she endured at the hands of the other inmates. Finally free of her prison cell but still locked in grief, shame and a mutilated body, she struggles to trust and find her place. The small town that witnessed her conviction will never accept her and allow her peace so her intent is to leave town, but she has a few things to do first. Visit the graves of her grandparents and the boy she was wrongly convicted of killing and visit the Bear, one last time. Little does she know, the Bear holds all the answers to a lifetime of hurt and betrayal.
Thomas Brown has suffered through a hell a young boy should never experience. The betrayal and abuse of his childhood has given him odd abilities but left him in a black and white world. It stole the color from his world but he can see people’s true souls. Seeing a person’s life, and motives, through their shadows allows him to deliver justice to people who’ve been wronged but comes at great personal sacrifice, as it puts him in close proximity to his tormentor, otherwise known as his stepfather and the sheriff of their small town. He’s barely holding on until he encounters the one woman who brings bright color back to his life. Simply seeing her across the cemetery brings vibrant colors to life that disappear again when she leaves. Drawn together by a mystical connection that has the power to end all their suffering, he is determined to heal this woman and take their piece of joy. But their pasts aren’t through with them yet and they’ll have to stay together to beat the enemy this time.
This book was an extraordinary journey through great suffering to find your soulmate. Helena is a warrior, surviving things that should’ve killed her while retaining some sense of innocence and forgiveness. Thomas had become a protector without him even realizing it but finds his calling in protecting this woman and their fragile, yet powerful connection. I loved the paranormal aspect of the book (which is so odd for me); the Bear legend was fascinating to me and was incredibly well crafted, even though the insta-love was over the top. A truly one of a kind read!

Thomas can only see life in black and white after a head injury as a child. But he can see people’s soul. He works with the Ohio investigation Bureau helping them solve murder. But he is broken inside. So when he mets Helen, and he can see colour again he is determined to make her stay. But Helen is running from her past after been released from prison for the murder of her boyfriend ten years ago. She is innocent and Thomas will fight to rescue her all the while trying to solve the mystery about his stepfather, the one that attacked him as a child and made his life an inferno.
Dear friends of mine can be found in the written word known as heart, life, and passion. Triumph, even in times when a great darkness may inevitably swallow one whole. Those moments where even the most downtrodden individual can seek out words on a page, only to be soothed by the art unfolding in a book infused with imaginings that breathe life into the reader; I live for those moments. Once again, Abbie Roads has written a story so rich that I find myself in awe of her ability to develop a plot that ignites my blood, painting a canvas of feelings that range from horrified to blissfully happy. Thomas and Helena are a perfectly rendered example of strength born from tragedy and I find myself still thinking of their companionship, kindness, and unwavering love.
Thomas Brown, a man running from a hellish past filled with grievous injuries, ones that he cannot escape as they haunt his every waking moment. His world is bereft and colorless; tasteless, even as he wanders through life only surviving, incapable of living. Helena Grayse, the woman who thrives without thought through grit and willpower; defiance and grace her bedmate for the past ten years as she suffered through a sentence meant to break her. For a sin she was incapable of committing. Both characters bring with them undeniably heartbreaking pain and yet somehow form a bond that nourishes forgiveness and healing under debilitating and gruesome circumstances.
Such aspects of a story ensure my inclination to fall deeply into the setting, becoming one with the tale being told. From the very beginning, I was riveted; compulsively turning the page to find what may come next for Helena and Thomas. Their meeting brought a smile to full bloom even in its simplicity while their growing love caused my heart to tremble with unbridled joy. I ached with each moment of desperate sadness and cried during moments of raw beauty as love kindled in a contradictory slow, yet satisfyingly fast-paced burn, igniting both souls as they touched. The journey Helena and Thomas endure together will quell any need for a happily ever after, leaving you with every bit of much wanted heartwarming feels.
Even with the dark and twisty depth of psychosis embedded in the foundation of the antagonist as I was rendered speechless left me wanting. As the evil slices through skin, blood, bone, and marrow you’ll come to appreciate, know, and love the chilling delivery that Abbie Roads gives you. With each turn of the page, not only does emotion claw at your beating heart, but the sick and disturbed shocks your pulse into frenetic pump, pump, pump. Surprises greet you as the slight paranormal edge gives you goosebumps in this wonderful romantic thriller. This is one complex, fiendish, and beautiful novel that should be savored.
Never Let Me Fall is the third book in the Fatal Dreams series and it can be read as a standalone. This book is fast paced and in true Abbie Roads fashion has the perfect balance of mystery, thriller, and romance. I love the continual integration of the Fearless and Bear story. There are some pretty dark moments in this story that may be difficult for some readers. This isn’t a cute flirty romance, but a darker romance about two people who have experienced an unimaginable amount of pain in their lives finding each other and happiness. I was drawn so deeply into Thomas and Helen’s story that I flew through it in one day!
I voluntarily received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Never Let Me Fall (Fatal Dreams #3)
By Abbie Roads
Rated 4 stars
Thomas’ story drew me in when I first heard about it. A guy who sees black/white and has for years then once he sees a woman…all the colors come to life. Heck yeah! I wanted to read that! Because I know he will want her. She not only adds color but also fills those empty holes he had inside him. Win-win!
I had high hopes for this book. I read the last two books in the series and ab-so-lutely loved them. I am not sure why but this book was a struggle for me. At first I couldn’t connect with the characters. At times the story seemed disjointed and I had to reread pages thinking I had missed something. But it all seemed to flow much better the further Into the story I got. I started to feel the connection and actually “feel” the MC’s bond grow. There is quite a bit of movement in the last half of the book which makes some things come together. It was nice to briefly see Lathan and Evanee as they helped out a bit.
As stated above I loved the others in this series. Heck I am a one clicker of Abbie Roads. But I am sorry. I wanted to love Thomas’ story but it is an okay to good read for me.
Never Let Me Fall by Abbie Roads is an excellent book. The whole Fatal Dreams series is an excellent group of books that you will like to read. This book can be a standalone story but would be beneficial to read the other stories. The tone of the story is a suspense, action, mystery which allows the story to move along more quickly. I was nail biting through parts of the story and wanting to close my eyes at other parts (which is hard to do when you are reading the story). This story is about Thomas and Helena. This is an interesting story as Thomas can only see in black and white, but Thomas can see the human soul (in my opinion an awesome gift). Helena has been in prison for the last 10 years being convicted of murdering her boyfriend. Now Helena has said from the beginning that she was innocent of that crime. Now the paths of Helena and Thomas have been cross and there will be answers to the questions, but will they be able to trust each other is another question that needs to be answered. Will their relationship keep going strong or will fail? You will find that answer when you read this book.
I enjoy how this book pulled me right in from the first word. I also found this to be fast reading with a plot that is engaging. Thomas and Helena are very likable characters that I could connect with. Thomas has a unique ability where he can see into someone’s soul but he sees the world in black and white until he meets Helena. She brings life and more color then he could ever imagine but she also brings a past that could be a threat. I highly recommend reading this book.
This is another great addition to this series. I do wish I remember exactly what happened in the other books. I remember the concept but not the detail of the other books. You don’t have to read those books but since I did I wish I remembered them. I guess I need to reread those. Anyways back to this book. Both Thomas and Helena have an awful past to overcome. Together they are strong and together they will stand a chance of getting over the past and finding love. These books do have a dream/spiritual twist to them. All the books are dark but through the dark is such love.

Never Let Me Fall (Fatal Dreams Book 3)
By: Abbie Roads
5 out of 5 stars
The story Never Let Me Fall (Fatal Dreams Book 3) by Abbie Roads is a wonderful book that I loved reading. It hooked me in from the very beginning and I didn’t want to put it down until I had read the final page. It is a story that has action, suspense, and mystery all rolled into a book that had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. It is a page-turning novel. I loved reading about the characters of Thomas Brown and Helena Grayse. Thomas is a man that can only see the world in black and white. That is until he meets Helena. Helena is a woman who has suffered at the hands of others. She has strength and she is a survivor. Even so, if she is cornered or feels uncomfortable with a situation she feels the need to run. When they meet Thomas and Helena both have a connection to each other. She becomes the one person that he can’t live without. He is someone who wants to keep her safe. What will happen when they are targeted and threatened by an enemy? Will they survive? Read this book to find out. This is a story that will have your emotions going up and down all the time. I loved that the story is written with such detail that I felt like I was right there with the characters seeing what they were. This story does include some steamy scenes that will make the temperature in the room rise. I grew to love the characters of Thomas and Helena with each chapter that I read, and I was rooting for them to find happiness and a happy ending. This is an amazingly wonderful book that I would highly recommend reading.
